People.Nothing but the sound of people talking and laughing. Sometimes she wished she could see them. All she could see was darkness, pure, pitch black darkness. Oh sure, she could hear very well, her other senses were very sharp, had to be since one of them, a very significant one, was completely absent. Born with congenital blindness, Ailsa lived most of her childhood under scrutiny and careful management by her parents who were still in Scotland.
Ahh how she sometimes missed it, and she really did love it there, though this place wasn't bad either. Just nothing beat your home country, and that was that.
Her sightless eyes stared at nothing as she walked through the streets, the color of them almost translucent, the pupil a foggy blue color instead of black like it used to be, her irises a very light pale blue. She used to have regular blue eyes until her cataracts, which had happened shortly after she was born, dark blue eyes giving way to an almost see through color. She blinked a little and looked up at the sky, then back at the road she was traveling on.
It was really dangerous for a blind girl to be traveling out here all alone, she realized, but she didn't care. She knew of the dangers, getting hit by a car, getting mugged, beaten..raped. She figured at least she wouldn't be able to see it. She traveled a lot, even though she didn't know where she was going she relied on her hearing and on movements in the ground. Call her crazy but that was how she walked. The blond blind 22 year old cleared her throat and stopped walking, listening to the sounds around her.
Ailsa shook her head and kept going, nearly getting run over by a car by stepping into the street. She hadn't paid attention and the man driving yelled at her. "What are ya, blind?" She stopped walking and turned her head in her direction, her sightless pale eyes on him. "Why, yes Ah am." She walked away, the man's face full of surprise and..guilt. But she didn't need that at all. She shrugged and kept going, realizing what she was stepping on was grass now and she was in the park and then she'd ended up back in the city streets, heading into a coffee shop.
