Mike walked through the front doors of the school and frowned. If it had been up to him he would never have set foot in this town again but in the end it wasn't his choice to make.

He made his way through the halls quickly as he headed for the office. As he walked he noticed more than a few people starring at him then quickly looking at someone near them and whispering o quietly for him to hear but he knew they were talking about him.

Once he reached the office things went quickly as he handed over his transcript and got his courses assigned. He listened to the principle give him a speech about following the school rules and giving the other students the respect that they deserved. He had head the same speech from the councillor in his last school. When the principle was done he was given his schedule and headed for class. He wondered if anyone did not know that he was back.

When he found his first class he was about fifteen minutes late so after a quick tap on the door to get the teachers attention then walked in and handed her his papers. She quickly looked over then pointed to a seat that was roughly half way down the class on the inside wall. He glanced at the class as he walked to his seat. Once he was seated he took out a notebook and tried to listen to the teacher.

Gina had expected it to be just another day at school. Her biggest worry had been the test in third period, but then he walked through the door and everything changed. She'd been at her locker, barely listening as her friends gossiped around her but then they all fell silent and she saw why.

It had been years since she saw him last, but she recognized Mike immediately. It was hard to forget the face of someone who had bullied you for most of your childhood. Her stomach flipped and knotted as he walked past, and her friends went all abuzz. They were all aware of how she felt about her former tormentor.

But then the bell rang and she had to race off to class. She could hardly focus on the teacher, getting lost in her thoughts and memories. When the door opened and Mike walked in part way through the class, she froze in her seat. She ducked her head down in her book, trying to hide herself from view.

Of course, the teacher would choose the seat near her. She buried her head further down in the book, one hand tightly gripping the side of the desk as she felt her nerves beginning to fray. Hesitantly, she glanced up and watched him from the corner of her eye. Maybe he had completely forgotten about her in their years apart.

After about five minutes of just taping his pencil on the page and feeling like he was being watched and knowing that it was not just a feeling he let his eyes scan the room until know one was watching him anymore. As he looked back at the teacher he stopped taping his pencil for the first time and looked over at Gina. He tilted his head for a second before he smiled softly as he started remember where he knew her from.

His smile turned to a smirk as he turned in his seat and leaned over to her. "What not even a hello? If I didn't know better I would say your trying to hid from me. No that can't be right cause the Gina I remember always had good manners." He kept glancing up at the teacher and just when he thought that she was going to say something to him she was called out into the hall. He then turned his full attention on Gina.

Maybe he changed. People changed over time. Gina struggled not to psych herself out, focusing on the sound of his tapping pencil. He probably didn't even remember her. She'd changed too, she wasn't the same pipsqueak he could boss around. Yet all the confidence she had managed to muster vanished when she heard his voice.

She froze in her spot, staring straight ahead, afraid to look at him. He couldn't do anything, not in class. Her eyes were trained on the teacher who seemed to have noticed their exchange. When she left though, Gina knew she was on her own. Slowly, Gina turned her head to look at him but avoided matching his gaze. "I'm not the same Gina anymore," she muttered, putting as much bravado into her voice as she could.

Mike had to stop himself from laughing at her. "We will have to see about that." Just then the teacher walked back in and Mike sat in his seat properly again as she started to teach. In less than a minute he was tapping his pencil on his note book again but this time he would stop every once in awhile and he would draw something. Each time he stopped the page got fuller and as he went it looked like he was putting together a puzzle as he jumped from section to section but with each section he completed it the bigger picture came into view.

He did this until the end of class and when the bell rang he stood up and started to leave the classroom only to be stopped by the teacher and lead into her office. He thought that she knew about his history with Gina but after she closed the door and they both were seated she started to talk about how hard it can be for someone when they loose a parents but that it was good to see that he was trying to make friends already. Mike nodded when he was supposed to but he had to keep a smirk off his face. He couldn't believe that the teacher was thick enough to think that he was trying to make a friend. He asked if he could go and after second of hesitation the teacher nodded and he left the room heading for his next class and then lunch.

A look of wariness crept into Gina's eyes at Mike's reply, but before she could demand an explanation, class was started again. She stared blankly at the chalkboard during the rest of the class. All she could focus on was the incessant tapping coming from the desk beside her. Each time she thought she might snap from the noise and break his pencil in two, he would stop and draw. Try as she might to eye the picture, she couldn't make out the image from her angle, at least without showing her interest.

Time dragged on until the bell rang. Between obsessing over the sound of his pencil and keeping bad childhood memories at bay, each minute seemed like torture. With the first ring, Gina was out of her chair and out the door. She spent her time dodging her friend's questions about Mike, not wanting to say just how upset she was. Honestly, she just wanted to forget he was even here.

When lunch came, Gina held back from following the herd of students into the cafeteria. Still avoiding all of her friends' concerns, she dodged into the bathroom and waited until she could grab a few moments of peace in the hallway. Her locker was nearby, so she stopped there to grab some notes for the test she had coming up. Studying would be the perfect distraction to keep her wandering mind focused.

Mike started to recognize a few faces here and there as he walked to his next class. Once he was in class he sat at the back and finished his drawing and ended up reconnecting with a friend that he had not seen or talked to since moving away. But when Class ended and he tried to leave he was stopped again by the teacher. He almost walked away anyway but he knew that if he did that his first day they would pay even more attention to him which was the last thing he wanted so he stayed and spoke with the teacher for a few minutes about what he had already learned at his last school.

A few minutes later he walked out of the class and was heading down the hall to his locker when he glanced down an intersecting hall and saw Gina. He smirked and started walking towards her. He looked around for security cameras but he did not see any at that point. When he got to her locker he leaned up against the one beside it as he gazed at her. "So, when do I get my personal tour of the school and the town?" He looked completely serious as he asked even though he was just saying it to see what her reaction would be.

Absorbed in her notes, she failed to see him approaching before his shoes came into view. Gina looked up, startled by the interruption. Her face fell at the sight of him. She snapped her notebook shut and held it tightly held it to her chest. "I wouldn't hold my breath," she replied, but still found herself unable to meet his eyes. She looked just beyond his shoulder, eyes flitting back to his gaze for only a few seconds at a time.

"You haven't been gone long enough to forget, anyway." She added as an afterthought, a twinge of disappointment in her voice. If only he had been gone longer. Reaching into her locker, she withdrew her bag and pulled it over her shoulder. She closed her locker quickly, obviously in a flustered rush to leave. Her hands worked clumsily as she took her notebook and jammed into into her messenger bag, bending the pages in her hurry. "I have a test I need to go study for," she explained as she turned to leave, "and you should go eat lunch before they stop serving."

Mike saw how nervous she was and laughed when she stuffed her notebook into her bag. "I won't be the one holding my breath G." As she turned to leave he stood up and grabbed his shoulder as he took a step forward and pulled her back. "Watch your mouth Gina. You might think your all tough now but that can change fast." He looked at her for a few seconds then turned and walked away.

As he rounded the corner he smiled to himself. He was going to have fun with her and who knows he might end up having lass with her after lunch. He knew he had gym and science after lunch and he was not sure which one he would rather have with her if he was lucky enough.

After dropping his stuff off at his locker he went to the cafeteria and grabbed some food before going to a table and sitting with some of his old friends.

Gina waited until Mike rounded the corner before she leaned back against her locker with an audible sigh. It seemed her fears were confirmed, he hadn't changed. She hated the way he still had any sway over her emotions. Shaking her head with annoyance aimed at herself, she shoved away from the locker and walked down the hall. 'Get a grip,' she told herself. He might not have changed, but she had. That had to count for something.

Too upset to eat lunch, she went straight to history class. Might as well cram as much as she could before the test. However, once the class started, she found herself distracted. She turned the test in with further built up frustration, knowing she wouldn't get the grade she had been aiming for. With the end of the school day fast approaching, she was eager to head to gym and release some of her frustrations.

As she headed to the locker room, she complained to her friends about the test. Her mood felt as though it might be improving. School almost done and no other classes with Mike. She quickly changed into her gym clothes and headed to the gymnasium to idly shoot a few basketballs before class started.

After lunch Mike headed for his science class. Within five minutes he realized that he had been taught all of this already so he took out his note book and finished off his drawing. When he walked out of the class his pockets were heavier than before since he had been able to steal a few ounces of a few different chemicals, mostly explosive ones.

He walked to gym after dropping his things off at his locker. He talked with the teach for a few minutes then went into the changing rooms just before Gina walked out. After he was changed he walked into the gym and smirked when he saw that one of the girls that Gina was talking with he had been eyeing at lunch.

He headed over to the basket of balls making sure his t-shirt covered the tattoo that ran down his spine but to his annoyance either the top tip or the bottom tip would be showing. He grabbed a basketball and walked to the half court and being careful to use the right amount of power he shot from half court and sunk the ball into the basket that Gina and her friends were at then started walking towards them to get his ball back.

Just as she had lined up her next shot, a ball came flying overhead and into the basket. Gina turned to see who had the good aim and blanched at the sight of Mike. Her grip on the basketball tightened. With a flippant humph, she whipped back around towards the basket. However, from the corner of her eye, she spotted her friend Allie scurrying to pick up Mike's ball. Gina recognized the look on Allie's face, the flirtatious grin pulling at the corner of her mouth.

With a bit more force then intended, she shot the ball at the basket. It smacked against the backboard and came bouncing back towards her. She was too busy giving Allie an annoyed glare to notice the ball as it rolled past her. Her friend ignored the look, picking up Mike's ball and holding it out for him to come grab.

Mike barely stopped himself from laughing when he saw Gina's reaction to seeing him. When he saw her friend scramble to go and pick up his ball he chuckled under his breath a bit. He realized that she was going to make this so much easier for him. He picked up Gina's ball as it rolled passed her then stopped only for a second as he shot the ball and bounced it off the backboard before it fell into the basket. "Gina try not to use as much power it should help." He had to work hard to sound like he was actually trying to help even though he knew full well that she had missed horrible because he was there.

He focused his attention on her friend as he walked past Gina. When he got to her he smiled and reached out to take his ball. "Thanks, I saw you at lunch didn't I?" He made sure to let his fingers brush hers gently as he took his ball back. "I'm Mike by the way." He smiled again then leaned forward a bit to whisper into her ear. "Don't mind Gina she has always blown our teasing out of proportion. She just never liked when I teased back." He pulled back from her so he could see if she actually believed him.

Gina's refused to watch his ball go into the basket. Again. Her ears told her well enough that it did. "Thanks for the advice," she muttered darkly, eyes narrowing as she watched the exchange between Allie and Mike. She cast a worried glance at her other friends, but saw they were intent on practicing their rebounds. Without their support, she could only watch with concern as Allie began to flirt with Mike openly.

Allie blushed at Mike with a smile. "You're a good shot, Mike. Sorry I didn't come introduce myself at lunch. I'm Allie." She leaned in toward him as he whispered in her ear, chuckling softly. "Oh Gina's never been a fan of being teased," she replied. "You know, she really hates you though. But I don't see what there is to hate." She gave him a large grin and touched his forearm. "Maybe I can put in a good word for you with her..

Mike loved how easier Allie made this for him. He had had an interest in her but now that he could use her to get under Gina's skin his mind set for her had changed. "Thanks Allie, I had lots of time to practice when I was away." He smiled and put his hand on her shoulder close enough to her neck that he could caress her neck with his thumb. "Nothing to be sorry for, I am the new kid and its never easy to be the first one to say hi." His eyes lit up when she mention putting a good word in for him and he had to work hard not to smirk. "That would be great, I am trying to start fresh this time and I think she will be the hardest person to start over with." He had managed to loose his smile and look a bit upset. But as soon as he thought that she might have noticed he smiled again as if hiding his pain. "Sorry I should not put this on you. You don't have to say anything for me." He let his hand drop and gave her one last smile before he started to take a step back then stopped. "How is it that I don't remember you? this town is so small that I even remember the younger grades but I have never seen you before."

The blush on Allie's face deepened at Mike's touch on her neck and she gave his forearm a light squeeze before letting go. "Of course I'll talk to her for you, hon!" Seeing what she percieves as upset cross his face, she reaches out and grabs up his hand tightly. "Don't you worry about it. I'm sure she'll see how nice you are now, and that she was just over reacting." She nods resolutely and pats his hand reassuringly, "I know what its like to be the new girl. I must have moved here when you were gone." She adds a playful wink, "Too bad you weren't here when I was the new kid."

Gail watched with growing worry. Allie had obviously decided on who she wanted as a new boyfriend and it worried Gail at her choice. She tried to turn her back on their flirting, joining her friends game. But she found constantly glancing in their direction. As Allie became more touchy, Gail finally decided to intercede. She made a wide pass of the ball to her friend so that it bounced and hit the back of Mike's knees.

Mike smiled at her as if she was the best person in the world then leaned in and kissed her cheek and whispered. "If I had been here I am not sure you would have made it home until late after your first day." He could have said more but he stumbled forward half a step before turning around to face who ever had thrown the ball only to see Gina. He started towards her only to slow his pace and let his shoulders slump a bit so Allie at least would see that he meant what he said but as soon as he reached Gina his eyes snapped up with fury smoldering in them. "Watch yourself G because I will get what I want and the more you fight this the worse off you will be." He was hissing at her so that Allie would believe him longer by not being able to hear what he was saying. "I will cut your connections one by one just like before if you piss me off." He was trying to get her to make a scene or even better slap him so that Allie might start gossiping and probably paint Gina as the bad guy. But he could only hope at his point.

Allie giggled and shot him a coy look. Before she could reply, though, Mike was walking towards Gina with the ball that had bumped him. Gina tried to hold her ground as Mike approached, thrown off guard by his slumped shoulders. Had she overreacted? But as soon as their gazes met, she took a step backwards at the look burning in his eyes. Her own widened as he hissed at her, her arms beginning to tremble.

She forgot that Allie was watching. Feeling suddenly cornered, she pushed Mike away. "Just leave me alone!" she snapped, trying to sound forceful despite a slight tremor in her voice. "Leave Allie alone, leave my friends alone, just go away Mike!"

Mike smirked at her as she started yelling at him but his eyes got even harder than ever. He let his shoulders fall a bit more for Allies benefit then started walking past Gina. "I can take you when and where I want. Remember you are no different than when I left so I still own you." His voice was lower than before but twice as hard. After than he walked back to the basket full of balls and put his away before class started.

Gina's back stiffened at his words and the tremor that had started in her voice found its way to her hands. Glancing up, she saw Allie glaring daggers at her from across the court. She rollled her eyes, but felt a sense of betrayal from Allie. Apparently she'd chosen sides. As she watched, Allie rushed over to Mike's side and patted his back consolingly. She stayed by his side through the rest of class as if acting as a buffer between Gina and Mike.

Gina avoided them as much as possible. She participated half heartedly through class but was just waiting for that last bell to ring for the end of school. When it did, she practically sprinted to the locker room to change. Without another word to any of her friends, she headed to her locker to grab her bag. She just wanted to go home and forget this awful day.

Mike thanked Allie as she came over and kept flirting with her as class went on. He kept glancing over at Gina and every time Allie noticed he would just give her a weak smile and apologize before flirting with her a bit. He was going to keep things going with Allie for as long as he could or until she was no use to him.

When the bell rang he saw Gina sprint out of the gym. He then kissed Allie on the cheek. "Thanks for everything, but I have to go so I will see you tomorrow." He gave her another smile then went and got changed before moving to his locker and grabbing his bag as fast as he could.

He left the school only to stop and try and remember what area Gina lived in but after a few moments he remembered and headed off in the direction of her house. He knew of a few parks that were in this part of town so if he caught up with her near one of them he could get out of sight and show her how things were going to work now.

As she was leaving, Gina spotted Allie at her locker. They looked awkwardly at one another for several moments before Allie spoke up, "He's actually a really nice guy." Gina sighed heavily, wanting to protest but knew was already on thin ice with her friend. Instead, she managed a nod. "Just...be careful around him," she replied, "I'll see you later."

As she left the school building behind, Gina felt her mood lighten somewhat. She took several deep breaths as she walked, and tried to convince herself that she had to be overreacting. Allie seemed to like Mike, so for that reason, maybe he deserved a chance. Maybe. She began to take the short cut across the park, allowing her mind to wander to the homework she needed to complete that night.

Mike rounded the corner just as he saw Gina turn into one of the park. He smirked and sped up so that by the time she had made it half way through the park he caught up with her. "Hey G hows Allie doing?" As he spoke he wrapped his arm around the back of her neck and let it hang over her shoulder as he watched her.

Gina recoiled when she heard Mike, which unfortunately only pushed her against his arm. With a glare, she ducked down below his arm, pulling back. "She's gullible." she muttered, fixing a glower on him. "Just leave her alone. She's just trying to be nice to you, so quit trying to take advantage of that."

Mike laughed as she recoiled from him then turned to face her as she slipped under his arm. "Leave her alone?" He just shook his head and reached into his pocket and his fingers grasped a plastic tie. "Truth be told I was interested in her before I even knew that she was your friend." He paused to see her reaction then spoke again. "But now that I know how easy she is and that she is your friend I am not going to let her go." He smirked at her then lunged for her and tried to grab her arms as he pulled his hand form his pocket.
