It was a bright, sunny afternoon on the mountain. The sun was shining, reflecting off the brilliant green of the trees and meadow grasses. Birds could be heard singing in the distance, and the occasional shadow of a predatory bird floated over head. The breeze gently brushed through the leaves and grasses, blowing across the face of the young woman hiking through the woods, a calm smile on her face. She was of average height with an athletic figure. Her dark red hair brushed against her chin, cut short to stay out of her way while she was parading herself through the woods. Her bright green eyes surveyed the forest area before her with an expression of deep interest on her face. It was a truly beautiful day.
The young woman, known as Caroline, was an avid hiker. Every time she had a day off she drove to the base of the mountains and headed up, backpack packed and compass in hand. She loved it because she always discovered something new. Sometimes she caught sight of a species of a bird she had never seen before. Sometimes she saw a wolf wandering off in the distance, or a deer drinking from a stream. She loved it best when she found a new place she had never been to before, a cave, a stream, a meadow hidden deep within the mountains. It was exciting, new.
Caroline happily climbed over a particularly large log and gasped in pleasant surprise, finding another pocket meadow just a hundred or so yards away from the one she just left. There was a small rise where a stream turned into a miniature waterfall, flowing down through the center of the meadow. It was filled with lush wild grasses and occasional clusters of wild flowers. Caroline gasped with glee, surprised to find such a beautiful little pocket. She took off her backpack and pulled out the camera, intent on taking a picture of the beautiful scene.
