The passage below is the opening post in one of it's final drafts.

I need a British/American/Allied female spy who infiltrates communist France by parachute and joins up with a resistance fighter known only as Montand. They're not going to get along, but she must pose as his darling wife so they can gather intel and spy on important people. Everything goes fine for a few weeks/months when a fellow agent knocks on her door, injured and bloodied. He brings her unwanted news that the French are aware of their presence. The other four agents have been murdered, and she is next! With the streets now filled with armed Military Police, and a declaration of war on the horizon... can the three survive a dangerous dash for the coast? And will romance blossom during the struggles?

** 1951 **

Europe woke to the news that France was now a Communist state. With such a powerful and influential Western country now an enemy, Great Britain was worried. It feared that the remainder of Europe would become Stalinized within a matter of years. Prime Minister Clement Attlee and President Harry S. Truman met to discuss the situation. They came to an agreement. Operation: Sunbird.

It was the British Secret Intelligence Service's plan to parachute six of it's best operatives in to northern France, with designated hotspots to watch over and report back on. Accompanying one of the spies was Lieutenant Daniel Morrison, a Scottish soldier. He was to escort her to the town of Saint-Omer.

** 10 November 1951 **

The night sky above the French countryside gave a somewhat cold feeling to the surroundings, and not even the songs of the owls could rest the soldier's quaking spine. He wrestled out of the parachute, tugging at the cords, and ripping them from his outfit. It had been seven years since the last British men had dropped in to France from the air, and now with a new conflict on the horizon, there could be many more arriving soon. But for now, Danny had only one other person to back him up if trouble arrived.

"You okay?" He asked, stepping through the thick, towering grass to the woman lying on her back. The pair were drowned in French uniforms, matching those of the current army. Even the equipment they had brought was born in the country underneath their feet. The bolt-action rifle hung loose in his hands, although his finger slept on the trigger and would remain there for much of the night ahead. He looked left and right as he spoke to her. "I hope you can fire that thing, hen. We're gonna take a little shortcut before we meet up with your Frank buddy. There's a truck compound in a farm to the north of here, that's where we're heading first. If the Allied invasion does get the green light, then this is where some of the troops will be landing. And you can bet that the Franks'll be using those trucks to get to the gunfights fast. We can't let that happen."

Danny reached down to help his partner get to her feet. "The Maquis are taking the wrap for this attack, so if you get shot, make sure you scream it in French."
