Carolynn didn't usually stay after when it came to her school work. In fact, she was a very fast worker. All of her teachers loved her for the all-star student that she was. But do you wanna know the truth? Carolynn was only so smart because she stayed in her comfort zone. Unless she absolutely had to take certain classes, she only took the ones she was good at. This assured her a spot at the top of the class and she was able to do anything she wanted pretty much. This year was her last year of school and suddenly her parents wanted her to branch out.
So now she was taking an insane math class that she didn't understand. Literally. She didn't understand a word of what the teacher said. She had to stay after class ritualistically now in order to digest the material that was given in class. She hated it, but what had to be done had to be done. The only reason why she hated staying so late was because it was winter, and in winter it got dark so much faster. It was only 6:00 PM, and yet it looked like it was midnight.
Carolynn lived about a mile from school, but she walked home everyday. Today was no exception. Her straight red hair bounced from her shoulders to her back as she walked, trapped between her body and her backpack. Every now and then she pushed her olive colored head-band back up onto her head, trying to occupy her mind with something mundane such as her hair. The darkness gave her the creeps.
She turned down the street her house was on and breathed out a sigh of relief. Now she only had to walk past one more creepy alley. She held her breath as she got near to it, feeling that there as something in the darkness that was going to grab her.
