Lauren's parents had wanted her to take a plane, but she was scared to fly. She'd rather risk her life on the icy roads than in a plane, at least if she crashed in her car she was more likely to survive than if the plane were to fall out of the sky. And she hated it when someone would tell her there are more fatal car accidents than plane accidents, of course there are more fatal car accidents, there are more cars than there are planes. Didn't they ever think of that?

It had taken her three days to drive to her parents house. The heater in her car was on full blast, so was the radio, but she turned it off as she approached her old home. It was a huge manor-like house. Three floors, a basement and attic. There were no neighbors around for miles.

She pulled into the driveway, before she even put the car in park the front door opened and her parents stepped out and onto the porch. Lauren got out of the car. Of course she was dressed warmly, long warm coat, gloves, winter boots, blue knit scarf around her neck, matching knit hat pulled down low enough to keep her ears warm.

Glancing over at her parents, the two said something to each other, of course she was too far away to hear, then her mother went back inside and her father started walking towards her.

"Happy thanksgiving, Dad," she said, hugging him back. She gave him a grateful smile when he took her keys from her and told her to get inside and get warm, that he would bring in her luggage.

"Your mother has a surprise for you, princess," he yelled after her.

Once inside the house, she removed her gloves, stuffing them in her coat pockets, then took off her coat, scarf and hat. Her bright red hair was a little disheveled.

After hanging them up, she called out, "Mom, Dad said you had a surprise for me," as she sat down on the bench to remove her winter boots. She didn't want to track snow all over the house. She was wearing designer jeans and a red turtleneck sweater.

"Oh dear, Lauren you know we dress for dinner," her mother said, "and your hair is a mess. I was hoping you'd be more presentable." Her mother said, sounding distressed.

Lauren rolled her eyes, suddenly all the reasons why she'd left home came rushing back to her. Did she really think I would drive here in an evening gown and heels? she asked herself.

"Mom, the surprise. Dad said you had a surprise for me." She stood up, and turned around when her father came in with her luggage.

"We have a border," her mother answered, adding, "Now go upstairs and put on the dress I laid out for you on the bed. And fix your hair, I want you to be presentable when you meet him."

One look at her father's face told her it was best to do as her mother asks. My surprise is they have a border? Why do they have a border, it's not like they need the money. What's so special about the guy that her mother wants her to hurry and make herself 'presentable' before she meets him?

Feeling as if she'd just entered the twilight zone, Lauren walked up the stairs, and down the hall towards her parents bedroom.

He had been waiting for his bride for many years, ever since he had made the deal with her greedy parents. They had wanted money and power and he could easily give them these things in great abundance but the only thing they had of value to him was a daughter, not yet born but on the way. Since then he had watched her grow from afar, waiting for her body to ripen until it was ready to be taken, ready to be plucked and devoured at his leisure. TO soon and she wouldn't be ready but if he waited for too long then she might be past prime, she might spoil. Darbraken was not going to wait for that to happen... nor was he going to wait for some foolish young man to win her heart and take his bride away from him.

So now the time was ready, he had told her parents that he now claimed what they owed him. Of course they had objected but once he had showed them the contract they had signed they had remembered the penalty for backing out on the deal with him. Not only would he take her anyway but their lives would be forfeit, he would make them suffer greatly in the Pitt. In the end they had agreed and the fact that he would be a temporary boarder with them was arranged, he would be living in her room when she returned and then he would claim her.

For the time being he wore the body of a normal human male, appearing to be about thirty years old with a full head of jet black hair slicked back and piercing blue eyes. His body was tall, about six foot three and two hundred pounds, slim and well muscled like that of a runner or a swimmer. His skin was pale, almost alabaster white that only made the dark pinstripe suit that he wore look more fitting then before.

He had been waiting patiently for a few hours now, after years it strangely seemed worse to just wait these last few moments. But when she arrived he could feel her, he could practically smell her. Moving from where he sat on her bed, patiently waiting Darbraken moved out into the hallway to see her face to face for the first time, a smile spreading across his chiseled face when he saw her. “Well hello there.” He said, his voice soft and almost melodious, another artificial thing he had chosen. “You must be the young lady whose room I am renting.”

Lauren paused at the sight of him. He looked as if he could have stepped off of the cover of one of her romance novels, his soft, almost melodious voice made her pulse race. "Lauren," she said once she'd remembered what her name was. "They'd given you my bedroom." She couldn't believe that they'd rented out her bedroom. She had been gone for several years, never visited, rarely called, she didn't blame her parents for thinking she'd never come back to see them. That must be why they had rented her room out.

Curious to see if her old room was changed, she moved forward, towards him and her old bedroom that he'd stepped out of. "Would you mind if I had a look inside what use to be my room?"

Her mother had told her to go into their bedroom and put on the dress on their bed, they always dressed for dinner here. But she'd already met their surprise. Their much too handsome border, with the chiseled face, jet black hair and piercing blue eyes. He was very pale, she'd say too pale. He was dressed in a dark pinstripe suit, she smiled, imagining that her mother telling him to dress for dinner. Or perhaps he always wore a suit.

Darbraken smiled a little bit at the sight of her, she was perfect, soon he would have her as his bride and everything that entailed, fortunately he wouldn't have to wait for any sort of ceremony to claim her, for a demon the marriage was as simple as taking her as his and that made her his wife, perhaps latter on if she behaved and desired it he could arrange for a ceremony more suitable with mortals, right now he just wanted to have her to himself for the evening... he might not even give her parents the chance to explain that they had asked for before he made things official.

“You may call me Dar.” He said, knowing his name was unusual for humans. “And I will only be using your room for a short time, I am only around to acquire something before I return home... I would be happy to show you the room but I believe that your parents intend to serve dinner soon, it would be rude to keep them waiting.”

He wanted her right then and there, but he had waited this long and would wait a little longer if he must. With out taking any more time to tempt himself around her Darbraken turned and went downstairs, pausing to glance at her parents on the way down. “I have no doubt that she may try to fight when she learns of what is to happen, it would be best if you didn't try to do something foolish.” He warned before taking his place at the table, right next to the place set for his bride to be.

(Don't mean to nit pick but could use description)

My mother chose this dress for me? She looked at her reflection in the full length mirror. The black evening dress was too low-cut, exposing more than a glimpse of her large, full breasts. It was long, falling down to her ankles, but had a high slit on the side. She had a more appropriate evening dress in her suitcase, but her father hadn't brought it up. Not wanting to keep Dar and her family waiting any longer, she left her parents bedroom and slowly walked down the stairs. Her bright red hair was swept up, exposing her slender neck.

Lauren sat down in the chair her father pulled out for her, right next to Dar. Around her slender neck was her mother's emerald choker, the emeralds matched her green eyes, but that wasn't the reason she was wearing it. She'd put it on hoping that it would take the focus away from her cleavage.

"You've outdone yourself, Mom, the food is delicious." Her parents were behaving rather oddly, she remembered them as being warm and very talkative, but here the two barely spoke a word. It just wasn't like them, was it her fault? Maybe she had stayed away too long. If they weren't going to say more than a few words to her, she would just talk to the the handsome man sitting next to her.

"Dar, you told me that you will only be here long to acquire something. May I ask what it is?" Must be something very important to him, because obviously he didn't trust it to be safely delivered to his home.

As far as Darbraken could tell the food was quite good, of course he really didn't need to eat in the same way that mortals did, only picking at his food as he watched his bride to be carefully. The dress that had been chosen for her was indeed magnificent, highlighting the best of her features. Of course it wouldn't remain on her for long and would soon be torn off, quite literally in all likely hood. The thought of what the had in mind for her was already exciting him, his control over his form weakening a little bit, his eyes starting to grow darker and his teeth sharpening a little bit.

When she asked them what he was around for he glanced at her parents who didn't seem eager to speak up about what had been going on between them, the payment that he was owed. While Dar had expected them to help him break the news to her they instead remained silent, it would appear that he would have to do the work himself.

“I came to acquire payment for a deal that had been struck many years ago.” He said, keeping his voice level so his excitement didn't end up betraying him quite yet. “You see a long time ago your parents were flat broke but I offered them a way to gain a great deal of money and power... in exchange for their daughter. Or to put it more simply I came to get you.” He watched her closely now, not even pretending to eat anymore as his eyes examined her every detail. “You are to be my bride young lady.”

"Really, I'm to be your bride. You can't be serious, this must a joke," she said, the last came out more slowly as she noticed his eyes had become much darker, she became more than a little uncomfortable as he examined her. "Oh okay, very funny," she said but the longer the silence the more nervous she became.

"Tell me he's joking," she said, turning to her parents. Neither of her parents spoke up, under her scrutiny they turned their heads away, too ashamed of themselves to even look at their daughter. "Mom? Dad?" She quickly got to her feet, and pointing at Dar, "You promised me to him?!" Still they didn't look at her. "Say something!" She screamed at them.

"It's true, princess," Her father said, finally speaking up. "We made a deal w-"

"With his parents.. I know," she said, interrupting. "Arranged marriage.. what century are you two living in?" Rachel couldn't believe this was happening, how could they do this to her?

Her mother still hadn't said a word, still avoided looking at her daughter. She looked over at Darbraken, not knowing what the demon would do if her daughter's reaction angered him. They were warned what would happen to them if they tried to interfere and save her. Henry, her father, stood and placed his arm around Rachel. He explained that the deal wasn't made with Dar's parents, it was made with Dar. "He's not a mortal man, he's a demon." her father told her.

She was against the idea, of course she was opposed to it but to Darbraken it hardly mattered if she accepted her new station in life or not. If she didn't then she would just be making herself miserable and that was her choice... he could give her a great deal of pleasure if she was good enough to behave herself. He smiled a little bit as her parents told her that he was a demon and let his form change to match his desire, his body swelling and growing even taller and small horns grew from his forehead. His tongue, now long and pointed slipped from his mouth and ran over his lips.

“Its quite right my dear.” He said with a small chuckle. “Your parents sold their unborn daughter to a daemon in order to gain success and fortune... now after waiting patiently for quite some time I have decided to claim you.” Glancing to her parents his smirk turned into a small sneer. “I will claim her now, in her bedroom. I would suggest that the two of you leave the home for the night, hearing what is to come might make you uncomfortable.”

His patience was exhausted though, he felt no need to just sit around and wait for her or her parents to feel ready for what was to come. “Laura, I think that we have both finished eating, why don't we move to your bedroom so that we can complete the bargin.” He suggested as he stood, though his tone made it clear that he didn't intend to be questioned.

If Laura hadn't seen him change form with her own eyes, she would have thought them insane. "You..you stay away from me," she said as he stood. Her parents were already heading for the door. She turned around just in time to see them leave the dining-room. "Wait! You can't leave me alone with him!"

She heard the front door slam shut and closed her eyes. They did it, they left her alone with a demon who.. who is going to be her husband? "God, help me." Where was god? Or his angels.. if they cared why weren't they helping her?

Darbraken grinned as her parents left, he had expected a last minute change of plans from her parents which would made thins complicated but since they left there would be no distractions. He however couldn't help but wince a little bit when she called on god. “Don't do that.” He hissed at her, his eyes flashing with anger. “They sold you to me so god has no authority here, you are mine to do with as I please.”

Standing up he stretched a little, only to help highlight how much larger then her he was and leave the impression of how much power he had... and his power wasn't just limited to the physical. “I suggest you come with me now Laura, I will claim you here on the table if it comes to that but I feel you might be more comfortable in your old bedroom, it will be the last time you see it of course.”

Laura had never been more frightened in her life, he was going to take her whether she was willing or not. What she needed was time, time to try to figure out a way to escape him. So she went with him, deliberately walking slowly up the stairs. In the hallway, almost to her bedroom, she turned around and looked up at him. "Wait..wait.. I'm your bride, right? Well.. wouldn't wouldn't you rather wait.. until.. until after the wedding ceremony?"

Maybe she should ask for help from god again. He got so angry the last time, if she did it again maybe he'd get angry enough to kill her and then she'd be free.. But she didn't want to die. How could her parents do this to her? And where was god? Dar said god had no authority here because her parents had sold her to him..
