Wars are ugly things. Especially long ones where no one remembers how it started or who is to blame. Even when one side claims victory, it's nothing but a hollow one as everyone evolved realizes that now must come the rebuilding and burying of the dead. Mourners cry out for lost love ones while children stare out into the night, waiting for missing parents to return, not understanding that they are gone forever.
This war, between an Elven empire that had lasted longer than anyone could remember, and an upstart Human Kingdom, had gone on longer than anyone had imaged, and the out come was far different than what was expected: the Humans were winning. Despite the elves long life span, and thus their ability to train and learn for centuries more than any human could, they were loosing the war to the 'lesser' beings called man. The war machine they fought against grew stronger every year as the elves lost their forest homes to the men's desire for more of everything. Finally, the armies met on a large field, ready for the last battle that would decided the out come of the war once and for all.
The newly crowned king sat on his white steed, waiting for the enemy commanders to step forward to converse before the battle commenced, as was customary in this situations. He was going to give them one last chance to surrender before the army behind him finished off this war once and for all.
