Edward strode with purpose toward the green room of the royal palace. The Viceroy of the kingdom had summoned him, and the note had said the meeting was one of great urgency.

The 21 year old prince was certain the meeting had something to do with the death of nearly the entire royal family a month before. Only himself, his twin sister, a few small children, and great uncle Augustus had failed to attend the event that took the lives of the rest.

The Iron Sovereign was the newest and biggest ship of the navy, and the king had insisted on the royal family going as passengers on the mammoth ship's maiden voyage. Uncle Augustus was too old to go, the little tots too young, and Edward refused to go because he felt the massive ship had been a waste of money and resources better used for other things. It wasn't as if the kingdom was at war with anybody.

Edward arrived at the green room to find the viceroy and his sister already waiting for him. He gave the viceroy a respectful nod and sent a supportive and friendly smile to his sister.

"Greetings, Viceroy," the prince said. "What urgent news do you have for us?"

Jocelyn was already in the Green Room when her brother walked in. She'd known when she was summoned that she was going to have the meeting with her brother. Every meeting since the royal family died had to be with the two siblings. So, when she saw Edward coming in, she simply smiled and nodded.

She patted the seat beside her, knowing that he would be told to sit down and it would be easiest if he just sat beside her.

She hadn't been able to travel on the ship that day because she'd been sick and it hadn't been wise for the princess to travel when she was so ill. It was for the best, she thought, having the prince and princess alive, at least.

Edward took the offered seat next to Jocelyn. He grieved for the royals who had been on the ship when it sank, but he was also deeply grateful that Jocelyn hadn't been among them. His twin sister meant the world to the prince.

"Er, yes," the viceroy said. He cleared his throat and placed a hand on a pile of very old books on the table. It seemed to Edward as if the man was trying to draw strength from the ancient tomes. "As you know, with the royal family all but destroyed, it is imperative that both of you marry as soon as possible and begin to produce heirs," the old man began. "However, you also know that under the law, you may only marry another of royal blood. I've spent many many hours pouring over the oldest laws of our kingdom, and I have found a precedent." He cleared his throat again and his expression worried Edward. Reflexively, the prince took his sister's hand in a show of support. He feared whatever news made the viceroy so nervous.

"The ancient law is very clear. You, as the only royals of age, must marry each other."

Keeping a hold of her brother's hand, she heard the man working to get his courage up to tell the two of them what he had on his mind.

She squeezed his hand when she was sure what the man was going to say. She was sure it would be that she had to marry their old uncle. But then, her hand went limp. They had to marry each other? They were twins! Was it right for them to get married and have children? She didn't know what she was supposed to do or say about what would be the arrangement.

"We are supposed to marry each other?" She asked in a soft gasp, looking at her twin brother. She loved him, he was her world, but could it turn into something more?

Edward was stunned by the viceroy's announcement. He was certain that he hadn't heard correctly. Before he could muster the wits to speak, Jocelyn beat her twin brother to it. He looked at his twin sister, seeing the shock in her expression. Reflexively, he gave Jocelyn's hand another squeeze of support, but then, he feared that she might misunderstand.

How can I reassure her that I'd never do anything to hurt her? he wondered. What if Jocelyn thinks I want to... to force myself on her?

"I'm afraid that's quite correct, your highness," the viceroy said to the princess. "Something similar happened long ago, and a similar arrangement was made. There is no other possibility. The Duke Augustus is too old, and the other survivors are too young. I'm afraid it is your duty as members of the royal family to marry each other."

Edward's blue eyes went wide. For himself, he would do anything his duty demanded of him. He loved Jocelyn. She was his sister, his confidant for secrets he'd never shared even with his parents and other siblings, and she was his best friend. Though Edward had been happy to know that he had older siblings to take on the heaviest duties of royal blood, and he had confided in Jocelyn that he had plans of his own, he would give up those plans and do what was needed of him... if only he wasn't so sure he would hurt his beloved twin sister in the process.

Jocelyn doesn't want this. The thought must disgust her, Edward thought. It hurt the young prince a little to know that Jocelyn must be sickened by the thought of being his wife. A tiny part of him wondered if his brotherly love could become something more romantic if given the chance, and the thought that Jocelyn surely didn't have that same tiny feeling made Edward feel like a monster for thinking it.

"We... I..." Edward could no longer bring himself to look Jocelyn in the eye. "I'm so sorry, Jocelyn."

"I think I should give you both a moment of privacy," the viceroy said before hurrying toward the door. "Er... wedding arrangements will need to be made as soon as possible." Then, the viceroy left, closing the door behind him.

Jocelyn was speechless as she listened to man telling them that they would indeed have to marry each other. She knew that there were worse people out there for her to marry, worse people out there for him to marry. She couldn't believe the way things were turning.

It wasn't a bad thought, being Edward's wife. But the way she'd always imagined it, she had continued to be his confidant, the one that would know his very thought, who he'd go to when he had troubles with his wife. This wasn't what she was hoping for.

She looked at her brother when he apologized and tilted her head. She heard the man going and kept her attention on her twin. Once she knew that they were alone, she leaned over and wrapped her arms around his middle, laying her head on his chest. They were the same age but since he was a man, he was a good deal bigger than her.

"Oh, Edward." She said, cuddling close to him. "I guess that we are going to have a whole new set of plans between us." She offered quietly.

Edward hugged his beloved sister to him, his hands gently caressing her back. It had always felt good and right to cuddle close to Jocelyn, but now there was something more. Now that Edward knew that they must marry, he couldn't help but notice that his twin sister was a beautiful woman. He coudln't help but think of the fact that soon they would be sharing a marriage bed and wonder what it would be like to make love with Jocelyn.

The prince felt his body begin to react, and he struggled to supress it. Now was not the time to make his beloved sister uncomfortable. One hand moved up to caress Jocelyn's hair. He did this to give her comfort, much as he had done countless times for his twin. Likewise, Jocelyn's head against his chest and her arms around his middle gave Edward comfort. He kissed the top of Jocelyn's head.

"Yes, sis," Edward said just as softly. "New plans." All their old plans were destroyed. Edward had hoped that Jocelyn would get to marry for love, that perhaps even he would have some choice in who he married. "I wish you could marry a man of your own choice, Jocelyn," Edward said sadly. Knowing that Jocelyn had to lose her dreams hurt the young man even more than losing his own. "I... I will try to be a good husband for you."

Jocelyn sighed as she laid against her brother, enjoying the feeling of his arms around her. She had always loved cuddling close to him, always loved having him comfort her for one thing or another. She knew he was attractive, that he was a handsome man that would make any woman happy.

"I really don't know what more I could want." She told him quietly. She really meant it. No, she hadn't expected to marry her brother, but she'd always hoped to marry someone just like him. "I will try to be a good wife to you." She vowed in return, turning her head up to look at him. "I will try to be everything you wanted in a wife." She promised him.

She wanted them both to be happy, wanted for them to have a good marriage if they could. And she was sure that neither wanted the other to be unhappy, so they wouldn't make the other unhappy. She smiled at him. "Who's better for us than each other, anyway?" She asked him with a soft laugh.

Edward laughed softly along with his sister. Jocelyn always seemed to know just what to say. As she looked up from his chest, Edward kissed her forehead.

"Who better indeed?" the prince chuckled. "Who knows my heart better than you, Jocelyn? Who could I ever love more than I love you?" Edward's eyes glistened, but royal princes weren't allowed to cry. Impulsively, the young man kissed his twin sister softly on the lips. He was in a tempest of emotions and doubted it was any easier for Jocelyn. The love had always been there, but now it was changing. New feelings where being awakened within Edward... or feelings he had never acknowledged before. Feelings Edward wanted to surrender to. It would make things easier if he embraced his growning attraction for Jocelyn, but Edward had to be sure of how she felt. Jocelyn's feelings were more important than his own.

"Can you love me, Jocelyn? Not just as you've always loved me as your twin brother. Can you love me as a man? As your husband? As the father of your children?"

Jocelyn was still smiling up at her brother when he let his head drop and he kissed her on the lips. She was stunned for a second, but then she admitted to herself that she liked it. She didn't expect that she would have. She would have thought it would be awkward and strained to have that kind of intimacy, but instead she found that she wanted more of it. She wanted him to kiss her again, and caress her, and make love to her. But, she knew those would wait until their wedding night.

At his question, her wide eyes met his and she nodded. As more than a twin, but as a husband and the father of her children? As a man? "Of course." She told him. "I can love you for so much more than just being my brother." She told him. "What about you?" She asked him. "Can you love me for more than your sister?" She asked, sitting back and out of his arms.

It seemed like they were reaching the point in their conversation that would be a whole lot more serious. They would be talking about their futures.

Edward let Jocelyn pull away. It was time to talk, and holding his beloved sister so close, her warm body against him, her soft lips so close, so easy to kiss, was as distracting as it was wonderful. The young man wiped his eyes quickly and then met his twin's gaze.

"Yes, Jocelyn," he said simply, with as calm a tone as he could manage. "I can love you as my wife and as the mother of my children." He paused a moment, feeling a need to explain, but not sure how to. "I... Ever since the viceroy said that we must marry each other, even more as I was just holding you... I feel... I can see you as the beautiful woman you are... I will never stop loving you, sis, but now I feel my love changing... no, growing, becoming more than it was... I..."

Then a thought occured to Edward. The twins had talked with each other, shared all their secrets and dreams. He knew of the courtship Jocelyn had dreamed of. The kingdom wouldn't wait for a long courtship, but there was one part of Jocelyn's dream that he could grant her.

"We need to plan the wedding," Edward said. "We must be married soon." The prince grinned with a little glimmer of humor. "Or the viceroy may insist with a shotgun pressed to my back. But first..." Edward got off of the sofa and knelt before his sister. He pulled the royal signet ring from his finger and held it in his hand.

"Jocelyn, I love you, and if you will let me, I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He raised the ring. "Will you marry me, Jocelyn?" Though they had no choice in the matter, Edward knew in his heart that his beloved Jocelyn deserved to be proposed to."

Jocelyn smiled back and nodded when he agreed to the same thing that she had. It would be easy to love him, she knew. She blushed when he told her that he was seeing the beautiful woman she was. She didn't see that, so it was interesting hearing it from him. She thought that he was the attractive one of the two. But since they were twins, it would be reasonable that they were both good looking.

She laughed at what he said about the Viceroy and shook her head. "Not you." She said, then pointed at herself. "He wouldn't be threatening the future king. I would be the one with a gun to my..." She stopped as he held the ring. He'd gotten off the couch as she was talking, but she hadn't thought of anything else.

She was a bit shocked, to say the least. Of course he would have remembered what she said. He remembered everything she said, he always did. "Yes, of course." She said, leaning forward to give him a soft kiss on the lips. She knew that they really didn't have a choice, but it touched her that he would be so considerate. "I love you, too."

Edward accepted the soft kiss, part of him wishing it could be more. Then, he carefully placed the too large ring on his sister's small finger. Then, he got up and gave her another soft kiss, resisting the urge to linger.

"Now, we had better make our wedding plans," Edward began. In truth, he knew that Jocelyn would make most of the plans. As the bride, their wedding would be her special day most of all. Edward wanted Jocelyn's wedding day to be perfect. He wanted his twin sister and future wife to be as happy as possible.

[Should we skip ahead to the wedding day?]

(Yeah, I'll start that.)

Jocelyn finished brushing out and pinning her long blonde hair. She was in her white and ivory gown, feeling the weight of it pulling down slightly. She could hear as the ladies helping her went on and on about how beautiful she looked. Rolling her blue eyes, she adjusted her skirts and ran her hands over her corseted top.

It was her wedding day. The day she would completely give herself to her twin brother. She knew that day she would promise him her whole life, and that night, she would be giving him her entire body. She was more nervous about the night to come than she was about their actual wedding. She'd heard that it hurt, and that's what worried her most.

After getting everything together, she was hurried from her chambers down to where she would wait to walk down the aisle. At least they were being married at home.

Edward's stomach was full of butterflies, though he wasn't allowed to show it. On the outside, he looked like the very image of calm control. Jocelyn wouldn't be fooled, the prince thought with a brief smile. He couldn't hide anything from his twin, not that he ever wanted to. Now, on the day of their marriage, Edward wanted even more than ever before for Jocelyn to know every secret of his soul.

Tonight, she would know his body and he would know hers with the same completeness that they had always known each other's hearts. Part of Edward longed for their wedding night. His attraction to Jocelyn had only grown, and his desire for her smimmered always just below the surface.

Another part of Edward was worried. Tonigt, he would take his beloved Jocelyn's virginity as he gave his own to her. He feared that he would hurt his sister, that he would make her wedding night a disaster. Jocelyn deserved her first time to be special. She deserved a husband who could make her feel wonderful and loved in his arms.

Edward was taken to the altar first. Thankfully, the viceroy's suggestion that they marry in the royal gardens had been vetoed by Jocelyn. Edward agreed that it was better to be married at home, without thousands of gawking strangers, and with friends around them.

Edward wore a uniform, as was traditional for princes on their wedding day, but not a navy uniform. Edward didn't want Jocelyn to be reminded of how most of their family had recently died aboard a sinking naval vessel.

The prince couldn't help but smile as his sister started up the aisle to join him. She was a vision of beauty, a goddess come to be joined with an unworthy but adoring mortal. Soon, they would be married, and Edward thought his heart might burst with joy and love.

Jocelyn smiled when she saw her brother, betrothed, and soon to be husband. He looked so handsome in the uniform, standing so tall and proud. Her affections for him had grown and developed over the time that they'd had to get used to the idea of marrying each other and having forever together.

She had to admit it was amazing to be marrying someone that knew her so well. He could read her every mood, just by looking at her. She had accepted the arrangement and was running with it with vigor. She was looking forward to being his wife forever and a day.

She could see his nerves the second she saw him and it made her smile sweetly. Stopping beside him, she blew him a soft kiss. The wedding and the marriage would be perfect for the two of them.

The priest performed the marriage ritual. Edward said his vows to his bethrothed, beloved sister. The rest of the ceremony passed in a blur. At the reception dinner, Edward danced with Jocelyn.

As children and teens, the twins had danced together before. The court had often commented on how natural and synchronised their dancing was, like 2 bodies and 1 soul, 2 hearts beating as 1. Now, it was even more special for Edward. Now he danced with his bride as well as his twin sister.

Throughout the dinner, Edward only had eyes for his Jocelyn. The toasts and congratulations and wishes for a bright future were all lost to Edward, only his Jocelyn existed in his world.

Then, after the dinner, Edward offered his arm to Jocelyn. He was too choaked up to speak. Now was the time to take his bride to their chambers... to the bridal bed.

Jocelyn had thought the wedding was amazing, the ceremony was moving, declaring her love and commitment to her brother. And the reception was beautiful. She loved when she and Edward danced, so when they were on the dance floor, they moved perfectly, never looking away from each other.

Finally, the time came for them to depart from the party. The guests would stay around until close to morning, but no one expected newlyweds to stay long. They would be so far from the music and fun that they wouldn't even know that it was still going on, at least that was the hopes for those events.

Taking Edward's arm, Jocelyn took a slow breath and offered a slow smile to the man. They were going to do it. They were going to consummate the marriage and give themselves to each other. She'd been looking forward to and been anxious about the night since they were told they would have to get married, so with it finally happening, she couldn't control the slight shake in her hands or the soft tremble in her voice.

"Lead the way, husband." She said with a small smile.

"Yes, my wife," Edward said, his voice weak with emotion.

The prince walked with his sister and wife to their chambers. No longer would they have seperate rooms as brother and sister, but they would share the bed of a married couple. When they reached the entrance to the their quarters, Edward smiled and kissed his bride tenderly on the lips. Then, he took her in his strong arms and carried Jocelyn gently across the threshold.

Rather than the usual night clothes, only robes had been provided for the newlywed twins. But that will be normal now, Edward thought, since surely they would sleep nude from now on. The prince's mouth went dry and his heart hammered in his chest in nervous anticipation. Soon, he would see his sister's body, and show his to her. Edward began to undress, removing his shoes and tunic. Then, he unbuttoned and removed his shirt, leaving his athletic torso bare. Edward made no effort to hide his body from Jocelyn. Only she had the right to see him, to touch him, to make love with him. His body was only for her.

Jocelyn knew that all of her clothing would be moved to the master's chambers, but as he carried her into what would then be their room, she was surprised that it had happened so quickly. It was good to know that their home was working effectively. It hit her then that she would be in charge of that home officially starting the next morning.

When he placed her down and began to undress, her maidenly instincts hit her, and she looked away. She looked away for only a moment before she opened her eyes, curious. She was amazed by how beautiful his body was. She was still nervous about showing her own body, but she brought her hands to her top, unlacing the cloth so that she could push the dress down, leaving herself in just her corset.

She had an equally toned and beautiful body, but she wasn't sure she could show it all to her husband. She bit her lip softly, unsure of what to do, besides admire her husband's body.

Edward looked at Jocelyn as she removed her dress. He fought the brotherly urge to look away, but he could sense how unsure his wife was. He also sensed that she was enjoying the view of his body. The young man blushed softly. He knew he wasn't as good looking as his sweet Jocelyn. Still, perhaps seeing him nude would help her relax?

Edward stripped out of his pants and boxers with one smooth movement, trying to hide the slight shaking in his hands. Now, he stood utterly naked before his sister, letting her see his entire body. Next, he moved slowly toward his sister and wife. Edward gently lay his hands on Jocelyn's shoulders as he looked down, his blue eyes meeting hers.

The young groom began to softly massage his wife's shoulders as he gave a deep and lingering kiss to her soft mouth.

"Do you want me to help you with your clothes?" Edward asked softly. He was still nervous, but he longed to see Jocelyn nude.

(Love your icon by the way, lol. It's always a bit of a shock when I check the new replies lol.)

Jocelyn watched the blush spread over his cheeks slowly and thought quickly that her brother was a mix of everything and more that she could have wanted. She couldn't help but be intrigued and comforted by his reaction to her innocent curiosities. Well, it wasn't innocent in most respects, but because she had never seen a man without clothes on, she was innocent.

When he stripped off the last of the garments, she gasped and watched him. It was a fascinating view. If she could gather the courage to touch him... But she was still a bit too shy for that. His touch on her shoulders was warm and comforting, like it was supposed to be, she was sure.

His question, and his touch gave her a moment to pause and look up at him. She offered him a nervous smile and nodded. "Would you, please?" She asked, taking slow measured breathes.

(Thanks :D I'm glad you like it. Sorry about the delay in posting. Been very busy with RL)

Edward had spoken with some of the servants to learn how to undo the fastenings on feminine clothes. He didn't tell them why he wanted to know, but their grins and occasional giggles told him that they likely knew. The small embarrassment didn't matter to the young prince however. He wanted Jocelyn's wedding night to be special, and that would not include a clumsy oaf pawing blindly at her clothes.

With a careful economy of movement, Edward undid Jocelyn's undergarments and genly removed them, kneeling to lower them softly to the floor. The young man couldn't help the soft sigh that escaped him as his twin sister's lovely body was finally revealed to him. Even Edward's wildest imaginings fell short of the glorious reality.

"You're so beautiful," Edward whispered. His fingers gently caressed the bare skin of Jocelyn's legs, hips and sides, lightly brushing the swell of her breasts, and then back to her shoulders as he stood. He kissed his new wife once again, his lips passionate, willing, eager, but not demanding. There would be pushing Jocelyn. When his beloved twin was ready, they would proceed, but not before.

(That's okay. It's been a busy few days for me as well.)

Jocelyn watched her brother, her heart beating madly at the thoughts of him seeing her completely undressed. It was exciting, and it made her nervous. He was so beautiful, but what if she didn't match up? What if he didn't like what he saw of her body? It made her want to look away, want to hide.

His sigh took away her fears. She looked down at him and felt sure that he liked what he saw. His words made her smile a bit and blush a soft red. She whispered her thanks as she shuddered at the feeling of his fingers moving over her body. She had never been touched like that, her skin had only been touched on her hands, arms and face. She didn't know that it felt so good to be touched somewhere else.

His kiss brought a kiss of her own, and she melted against him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders to bring her body closer to his. She moaned at the feeling of his warm skin against her heated. She was blown away by the feelings that he was bringing to her body which was suddenly far more sensitive than it had been.
