Cassie Reynolds stood at her best friend, Jess' door. Jessica had moved away from Chicago to some Southern place in the middle of nowhere three years ago. Cassie was finally eighteen and graduated! Thank God too because she didn't know how much longer she could take school without her best friend. Knocking at the door with her bag over her shoulder, she felt different. This was all too weird. A couple of years ago she'd knock once for a warning and just come in the front door. Now, she waited. She stood there in the blazing heat. Jess assured her that the inside of the house was nice and cold. Something Cassie was used to, living in the Windy City and all. Being down south was weird though, she wondered if her friend gained an accent. Or even Jess' brother. He was away at some college so she wasn't sure if he had stuck around long enough to even get an accent. This was definitely strange. She looked around and didn't see Jessica's car. Maybe she was still at work. Cassie checked her phone. Yep. There it was.

Sorry Cass, I'm working until one, but my brother should be there before you get there.

Her friend was so predictable. Of course it was only eleven thirty. There was a vehicle she didn't recognize. Maybe that was Jess' brother's. Hopefully because Cassie knew that the brother and sister's parents would be out of town for a week. Something about going on a "business trip." She only put that in air quotes because Jess did. Otherwise she'd probably think it was a business trip. But who would know better than the daughter of the two taking the trip? Cassie was so ready for this because she'd been looking forward to this moment all year long. They had planned on meeting for a week but after some mixed up events and some misunderstood meanings, she ended up being sent her for the whole summer. This was going to be so cool! Despite the weather, which was kind of a downer. Cassie liked the cold so much better than being hot.

The brunette stood at about five feet, six inches tall. Not exactly what they look for in super models in the magazines but because of her size she had gained a lot more curves than those super models, so she was good on that front. After last summer, guys liked her. She grew out of her kid phase a little late, but hey, at least she grew out of it at all! She tapped her foot wondering if she should try knocking again. She was wearing just jean shorts and a light gray, off the shoulder long sleeved shirt. Cassie had rolled up her sleeves a long time ago though. Like, after she got off the plane, a long time ago. She blew her bangs out of her face. That was the price she was paying for trying to grow them out. After a few moments of being impatient she knocked again. That was just like her, being impatient about anything would be just like her really.

Bryan heard the first knock but he didn't want to get out of bed. Being a college student, it meant sleeping eighteen hours a day if he could, only getting up to eat and dispose of his bodily fluids. But of coarse the pest at the front door was not going to be easy to get rid of. The second knock came and that got him to get out of bed. It wasn't a loud knock but the way the house was built, the knock could be heard from anywhere in the house. And Bryan's room, although in the basement seemed to have the sound of knocking amplified.

He pulled on a Tshirt so he could answer the door. when he got there he didn't know who it was right off the bat. He assumed it was one of Jess's friends, mainly because Bryan was not home from school often to make friends in the south, and for some reason he doubted this was a girl from college. He had to admit though the girl was attractive, more real than models in the magazines. it was funny how he compared her to them right off the bat, he should have actually got to know her first.

Combing his hand through his hair it was a mess. It was obvious he just got out of bed. Yawning he looked at the driveway, Jess's car was gone and his was there. The girl at the front door had not come by car.
"Jess is at work." he said scratching his head. "She'll probably be home a little after one." He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes so his Dark green irises focused on her "You are here to see her right?"

Cassie laughed and rolled her eyes. He obviously didn't remember her. Or maybe he was just too tired to realize who she was. "Yeah, your sister sent me a text message but I had my phone off during the flight." After flight she hoped that would ring a bell, that saying that she wasn't from here. "Cab drove me here and here I am, me, Cassie?"

Bryan definitely looked different which was to be expected after the few years they hadn't seen each other. Not to mention that the two

Cassie was blown away when he came out. A couple of years could really change someone but this rang true now more than ever. She might have been a little hurt about him not remembering her but she hardly recognized him and besides she lived in Chicago, thousands of miles away, how was he supposed to know it was her?

Cassie stared at the cutest guy she had ever seen, trying to comprehend how this could be him. It wasn't that he was ugly before but she just hadn't seen his face in a while and he was older. Laughing a little, the girl tucked a piece of hair behind her ear before saying, "Of course I'm here to see Jess, we've been friends for practically all our lives! Did someone not tell you that the great Cassie Reynolds wasn't coming down from Chicago to stay with you guys for the summer?" If anything her name and Chicago would ring some bells and if he could put two and two together then he'd have his answer as to who was standing in his doorway. She fixed her bag on her shoulder and thought about the breeze that came from inside the house.

The plane ride was long and exhausting but it got worse in the cab ride over from the airport with the broken air conditioner. She was sure a little cool air would wake her up, though. Besides, she couldn't sleep, she had too much catching up to do even if it was just with Jess' brother and not Jessica, herself. Smiling, trying to look cute by showing off her pearly whites the girl asked, "may I come in?" a little worn out laugh escaping her mouth.

He shrugged, "whatever" He said not caring too much about whether she was a complete stranger or really Jess's friend. She was too small to be a threat to him and if she wasn't Jess's friend he could escort her out, though looking over her, he figured he wouldn't. Random girl or not she was attractive and not too far away form most girls he would have in his bed, and she would be close to eighteen, another factor that would convince him to keep the girl around if she wasn't who she claimed to be.

Once she was inside he headed to the kitchen, "Can I offer you anything, Milk, water, beer?" He really didn't care what age people were when they drank, just so long as they were okay as they drank. Jess would steal a beer every now and then, but eventually Bryan learned to just deal with it. It actually got to the point that he would take care of Jess if she got drunk. and besides it wasn't like he was throwing a party, if she wanted a beer, he felt she should be allowed to have one.

He really did wish he could remember Cassie, though it made sense as the final two years before he moved away to college, and his family moved down south, he spent every waking hour of the summer chilling with his friends. And even before that, he wasn't too involved in Jess's life to begin with. Finally she had gotten older and most likely changed in appearance, so even if he had seen her in passing it wasn't like he would remember how she looked.
