Allison walked slowly, in no hurry to get anywhere while she watched shoppers hurry on by, cursing when a car zoomed by and thoroughly soaked them with water from a puddle. It was raining, but it always seemed to be raining and Allison was used to it. Her red hair was soaked, as was the rest of her, but this was the closest thing to a shower she could get... because Allison was homeless, and had no place to go.
Stepping beneath the awning of one of the local shops, she wrapped her arms about herself and shivered. Her blue eyes pierced the darkness, watching passerby hail for taxis and fighting with their umbrellas to open or close. The stores were all closing, one by one, the lights flickering off in succession- so Allison would be unable to slip inside to warm up for a few minutes, like she had hoped she'd be able to do.
So, she sat down beneath the awning and leaned against the door of the store. No one appeared to be inside, since the lights were out, so she felt safe to sit there for a bit, at least partially sheltered. Closing her eyes, she tried to fall asleep...
