Josh sat at his desk, trying to study. The activity was made hard by the multiple bruises on his body. Not being the most physical of people, and getting high marks in the most academic of classes, resulted in consent bullying. He let out a sigh as he finished off the assignments that had be given for that day. 'At least I still have my wallet. Those guys just want a punching bag and aren't interested in stealing.' He thought as he pulled himself out of the chair.
It was his last year of high school, meaning that soon he would be away from all the problems that were here. His family wasn't the richest around, but never had any real problems with finances. Of course, both his parents worked long hours and Josh didn't see them sometimes for days on end. Stretching and groaning a little, he walked out into the living room to grab his shoes and coat. Staying around the house with nothing to do wasn't fun for anyone, so he had decided to take a walk.
The main strip of town held specialty stores for every need. Cooking, clothing, gaming and more beckoned people to enter with their flashy neon signs and promises of super deals. Walking past the whole lot, he came upon a small curiosity store. No lights shown to draw people in, no customers seemed to be forcing their way around inside. The entire place looked like it didn't want customers at all. Drawn by the oddity of such a place, Josh entered the building; a small bell ringing over head to inform the owner that he had entered.
A man behind a long red counter motioned for Josh to look around to his hearts content, but never said a word. Not sure what to make of the man, Josh began to move threw the shop before his eyes fell on an old lamp. Thinking that it might make a nice present for a relative that collected such things, he picked it up and went to pay for it. The price seemed a little steep, but then most things in these types of stores always are. Once the lamp was in his hands, Josh returned to his home, ducking out of the way of the teens that exited from a nearby cafe.
Once home, he set the lamp down on his desk and looked at the strange thing. 'It's kind of hard to tell what it looks like. Maybe after I clean off all the tarnish it'd look better.' He thought as he began to polish the lamp with a cloth.
