The world of Kenterra is one of magic and technology, and one rife with danger. More monsters than ever inhabit the deepwilds between the walled cities of every nation, and hostility with Ur is all but guaranteed. There is even talk of the great destroyer waking once more with the help of its deranged cultists
Our story will follow an unlikely group of new adventurers as they grow and bond, eventually saving the world... If all goes well
Kenterra is a custom setting I've made through multiple iterations, and I'm hoping for this version to be the definitive one. But I even have more to write!
I have more than I think I should share here if I'm honest, but I'll try and share some of the more important bits. There are 8 custom races, as well as Humans. I've used an AI engine to create a basic summary of the setting, but there's a lot more nuance to share. I just work better with questions!

Kenterra – World Overview
Kenterra is a vibrant, magically infused world shaped by divine creation, titanic forces, and diverse mortal peoples called the Kin. Its lands range from lush wilds to vast oceans and bustling magitech cities. The setting’s magic is rooted in three fundamental energies—Aether, Dream, and Epoch—each tied to a plane of existence and playing a role in history, philosophy, and conflict.
---
Creation Myth & Cosmology
Kenterra began as a barren rock until Kenna, the Great Mother, and her lifemate Tael arrived from primordial chaos. They planted Astriion, the World Tree, whose roots spread life and magic. Their three children—Aront (Body), Xeyna (Mind), and Roro (Soul)—persuaded Astriion to create the Kin, who were blessed with life and purpose.
The Divine Family
Kenna – Goddess of rebirth, guides souls through Astriion’s roots for reincarnation.
Tael – Allfather, executioner of irredeemable souls.
Aront – Eldest child, reaper of souls, domain over Body.
Xeyna – Keeper of memories, domain over Mind.
Roro – Judge of souls, domain over Soul.
---
Titans & Cosmic Forces
Astriion, the World Tree – Eldest titan, anchor of Kenterra, and conduit for soul rebirth.
Centri the Cosmic – Primordial being embodying the universe and stars.
---
The Three Energies & Planes
1. Aether (Prime Plane) –
Infused into every being and object in Kenterra.
Used in Weaving, a magic that shapes ambient Aether; crystallized Aether fuels aethertech like golems and engines.
Weaving is harder in areas tainted by Drift or near Ur.
2. Dream (Drift Plane) –
Originated as a dream-realm accessible only in sleep.
After the Impact, the barrier between Drift and Prime weakened, letting Driftborn enter the world and leaking Dream energy into reality.
Powers healing, banishes weak Urbeasts, and creates solid illusions.
3. Epoch (Ur Plane) –
The chaotic source of creation, once sealed away by Kenna.
The Impact tore a rift to Ur, unleashing Chaos and Ruin.
Grants immense power at the cost of soul corruption and eventual madness or greed.
---
Philosophies
Forge and Weave – Born from uniting magic (Weave) and technology (Forge) after an invasion from Ur. The Order of Harmony pioneered magitech like soul-bound golems.
Way of Three – Seeks personal balance between Body, Mind, and Soul.
---
The Kin – Mortal Peoples
Aer – Tall, crystal-chested Aether-sensitives.
Auver – Green-skinned, sexually dimorphic.
Docchu – Reptilian diggers with darkvision.
Durae – Insectoids with exoskeletons and antennae communication.
Hirde – Carnivorous mammal hybrids, unpredictable form.
Humans – Diverse and trouble-prone.
I’ero – Winged avians with sharp vision.
Luddeh – Herbivorous mammal hybrids.
Orei – Aquatic humanoids with head-tails.
---
Core Themes
Divine Creation, Mortal Agency – Gods set the world in motion but do not rule directly.
Balance of Forces – Harmony between magic & technology, and between Body, Mind, and Soul.
Magical Ecology – The three energies shape nature, culture, and conflict.
Cycle of Rebirth – Souls pass through Astriion for cleansing, judgement, and return.
