Riza had served in space most of her life. She had been born on the colony just within the atmosphere of Neptune, originally formed to harvest ice but had become much more than that. The higher gravity when growing up had left her a little above the average strength of most humans in normal gravity, though it also meant it took her a little longer to get used to being weightless. She had also been aboard one of the earliest vessels to make a faster than light trip outside of the solar system, most FTL engines simply being used at first to move around the solar system, since even with the discover of FTL travel just over 50 years ago, travel to other star systems was a long journey, requiring a lot of supplies.
It was that first trip however that had brought humanity into first contact with an alien species, answering a question humanity had long asked. Are we alone? The answer was a most definite no. And lucky for the human race, this much more advanced species were friendly, almost immediately offering to open up trade and send an ambassador to Earth's solar system.
Somehow however, Riza had been landed with the job of being the ambassadors body guard during the visit. Perhaps it was because her service record was exemplary, or perhaps it was because someone thought of her rise up the career ladder as a threat and wanted her out of the way. Either way, the woman was now sitting in the Ambassadors quarters, waiting for her arrival. She had never met the woman before, or at least humans referred to the ambassador as a woman...she had a female appearance at least, though what that meant in her species they didn't yet know.
