In the Sleepy town of Widow falls, there is a dark secret. Not all the residents of the town are who they say they are. A demon has entered the village in disguise and intends to feed off of the townsfolk until there is no one left. Will the villagers be able to band together or will they fall to suspicion and manipulation.

I've this idea in mind for an erotic twist on the social deduction game Blood on the clock tower. For those who aren't familiar Blood on the clock tower is a game in which a group are trying to figure out which of them are the evil in the dark that is picking them off one by one each game night using abilities provided by their role and some sleuthing. The feature I like over other social deduction games is that no one is ever removed from the game before it is complete, instead they turn into ghosts, lose their role ability and the privilege to accuse other villagers, left with only one vote for the rest of the game.

It will take some alterations to be functional for a forum page but I wanted to focus on the RP opportunity. The Demon would be something like a succubus or incubus (with the power from one of the demons of the actual game), feeding off the essence of the characters in the village each night. During the day participants could RP with each other during private or public conversations between major events of the game. I would be acting as Story Teller guiding everyone through the game.

For the purposes of playing the game on the Forum, each game day would be broken down into Day, Trial, and Night.
Day = 3 real days for everyone to communicate and Rp with their characters and discuss with others and try to figure out the liars.
Trial = 2 real days for everyone to accuse, talk and cast their vote.
Night = 2 real days for me to get through the events of the night and make sure all roles have been used.
So one whole cycle should be a week.

Anyone who misses some days will either not get to vote, not use their ability, or if not active one full cycle will have their character turned into a ghost. The Wiki has some rules and roles for people dropping in and out that we might implement if needed.

The main gameplay would be played over a public space that I will as the Story teller to keep everyone updated of important events, announce the start or end of the Day, Night or Trial stage and can be used by others for RP purposes if they have any public information they want to share. The rest of the game will be played in private chats between people with the important detail that any private discussion must be announced in the main page if someone agrees to a private chat.

Ex. "Player 1 and Player 2 have entered the inn to privately converse"

Feel free to RP as much or as little as you would like but please keep everything consensual between players. I understand the idea will be to have a succubus/incubus sneaking into someone's house every night to drain them of essence, but we don't want to force someone to read that unless they want to.

Please hit me up if anyone is interested or if you have any questions. If enough people show interest I will make some more solid set of rules for everyone to follow and discuss the flow of the game in a separate forum page with the players.

I have no idea how this would work on a forum, but Blood on the Clocktower is a great game, so I’m intrigued.

Potentially interested but I've not played this game before. I have a general idea of how these types of games work, though.

There’s a thriving actual play community on YouTube dedicated to Blood on the Clocktower. It’s entertaining background noise when I’m doing other stuff.

It would certainly be a change of pace. I've seen some games played on forums and there are some differences that have to be accounted for. The fact that everything spoken is on record does make it easier to be caught in a lie. Voting also gets very chaotic so some more structure has to be provided there. For that reason I thought it might be interesting to put a focus on the RP side, have everyone in the village chatting and having their own stories going on between the actual voting and sleuthing.

The curious part about leaning into the RP part is everyone in the village has forgotten everything about everyone else in the village.

I was not aware that was part of the lore of the game, However that could still work.

Game starts, everyone is confused and wakes up in the village center as their characters with limited knowledge about themselves, forgetting everything about everyone else and immediately suspicious of others as there is a dead body among them. People could roleplay really whatever they want while searching for info, really just leaning into the paranoid villagers.

Alternately liberties can be taken from the original game. One idea I had, and curious of anyone's thoughts, was that the roles are swapped so they are not jobs but kinks or personalities. A succubus/incubus is in town, and everyone is trying to figure out who it is while hiding their own personal kinks and nightly activities from scrutiny. RP would lean into the eroticism as people are trying to learn everyone's dirty little secrets. Now, obviously the biggest issue would be swapping out role titles would probably do little good but confuse anyone familiar with the powers, but honestly that might level the playing ground for newer players somewhat.

It would really only work if everyone is comfortable playing sexual explicit characters and interacting with both male or females, but considerations could be included for anyone who doesn't want to engage with the sexual side.

I think it's not only in the lore, but a consequence of the rules, because the players don't know which role everyone has. It would be weird if the characters do but the players don't.

Fair, I guess I just never thought of the game as anything more than a set of rules. Like the original werewolf is also just a village of random people who for some reason don't know what jobs their neighbours have. It's one of those things that doesn't make sense if you spend any amount of time thinking about it, but it's necessary to make the game run. No ones really playing it for a story you know so there's no need to question it and the game never brings it up.

I actually mused on it for a D&D one shot. PCs all awake as villagers, but have no idea who the other villagers are. Just know there’s a Demon among them, killing one villager per night.

Well now's the chance to give something like that a go 🙂

Wondering about the RP aspect. Since eliminated players stay in play, we wouldn't be able to roleplay the night scenes between the demon and the victim, since the victim isn't supposed to know who the killer is until the end of the game. Did you have something in mind for this?

I watched a couple of videos, looks like a fun game!

I did. If the Demon wants to send a message of what transpired to their victim it would be passed through the story teller. Whether they shoot a single message or play out an entire scene, story teller would have to act as a middleman.
