Derek had been in love with her since her first creation. He had followed her through every lifetime, keeping close enough to watch her but not enough to interfere. But, God, did he want to. He wanted her, needed her, and being apart from her was like experiencing death. His fellow angels warned him that continuing such idle fascination with a mortal would doom him, but would that really be so bad? He didn't care how many times it damned him. He couldn't get enough of her. He needed to be by her side.
"Such lust will cast you from this place." The voice of God echoed around him, but Derek shook his head.
"Either you banish me or I fall on my own, it makes no difference." He said, "I can't exist without her."
"O, my son," the voice was gentle, disappointed, "you will be hunted for your crime."
"Then hunt me. I'll murder all in my way." Derek's wings felt heavy, the pristine white feathers becoming tarnished; feathers molted heavily as they darkened into a grimey tar black. Before he knew it, he was falling like a stone from Heaven; for a split moment he felt fear, before it melted into a serene delight.
Derek's eyes shot open, staring up at the ceiling of the bedroom. He blinked slowly before his head turned; beside him laid the object of his desires, her long hair like spun gold sprawled over her pillow. He had been with Raven for a few years now, seeking her out and making himself a part of her life. It was almost too easy to get her to love him, and when she did it was like falling meant nothing. Like he had always been human and had always been hers.
He rolled over, pressing into her back and looping his arm around her chest. He took in her scent deeply, trying not to moan audibly as he nuzzled into her.
