The Last of Us
(The story starts when Ellie is at least sixteen years old)
With a hail of bullets and blood, Joel had picked off all the Fireflies one by one on his way to the pediatric surgery floor, but just as he was about to enter the room where they were holding Ellie, he heard two doctors arguing.
"We can't do this!" one of them yelled. "The surgery is going to kill her and we don't even know if we'll be able to create a vaccine with the fungal growth we'll extract from her brain! My method is the only one that'll work! And it will keep her alive!"
Joel had decided that he had heard enough, and after kicking the door down, he aimed his weapon at the lead surgeon as he glanced over at Ellie, unconscious on the operating table and hooked up to all sorts of machines. "Unhook her from all of that shit!" he demanded.
"No!" the lead surgeon yelled as he reached for a scalpel in a feeble attempt to keep Joel away. "You're not taking her! She's our only chance at—"
BANG!
The surgeon fell dead to the floor and as the barrel of Joel's assault rifle was still smoking, as the other surgeon and nurses were screaming, he aimed his weapon at them and said, "One of you said there was another way, a way that keeps her alive. Unhook her from that shit, wake her up, and tell me what that is!"
As the nurses got to work, the other surgeon nervously began her explanation. "It's not so much a cure as it is a guarantee that humanity will endure and survive. Ellie's fungal growth has infected her at the DNA level. Her immunity can be spread through her genes. After completing our tests, we know that for a fact. So she needs to start having children as soon as she can. She needs to have as many as she possibly can, and when those kids mature they will need to have as many kids as they can. Ellie has the potential to be the mother of a future generation that won't need to worry about the cordyceps infection anymore. She'll be humanity's savior!"
When Ellie woke up, Joel had the doctor explain everything to her. He'd take her back to Jackson and begin the very awkward process of trying to find the girl a suitable mate so that they could begin breeding.
But what Joel didn't realize was that the most awkward moment was yet to come. It would take a couple of years of going through potential candidates for her to finally say something, but eventually Ellie realized that didn't feel comfortable around anyone else except for Joel, and so if any man was ever going to touch her, it would only be him.
But will Joel actually be able to do it? Will Ellie? The fate of humanity depends on them.
