I want to preface things by saying that this is a canon x canon ship. While I am not a complete stickler for canon characters sticking to their canon personalities? This story will require a good grasp on being able to play both characters as such to the best of our respective abilities. We can have some lapses as their relationship grows and that's more than fine, but they shouldn't deviate too hard from what they are. That said, I'm also not going to be tooo picky either so take those previous words with a grain of salt.
I make it no secret to anyone who asks just how much I love the art work of Vlizz. The artist semi-famous for making that crackship pairing of Midoriya Izuku and Ippan Josei from MHA but they also made a crackship pairing of Mumen Rider and Mirko from OPM and MHA respectively. With me having been re-watching OPM thanks to Season 3 being announced, I have been absolutely craving to play out this crackship. Along with it, I've got a bit of an AU story as well.
In this AU, the worlds of OPM and MHA have always existed together but taking place on opposite sides of the country. In one half, Quirks became to develop and created heroes and villains alike. In the other, heroes and monsters trained or consumed monster cells to make them what they are now. Both sides have and continue to work together for threats and foes that endanger human life as a whole and it isn't uncommon to see the likes of Smileman working with someone like Fatgum to take down a villain or monster or both. Our story focuses on Mumen Rider, in this named Satoru Tachibana, getting frustrated over his lack of strength. Sure, he's got the heart, the grit, and the willpower to keep being a hero but how can he protect anyone if he can't protect himself? It's not like he's some kind of cyborg or a dude that can kill everything in one punch. Hell, he doesn't even know any martial arts. He needs more than just his indomitable will to keep himself standing in the face of danger. And so, he makes the decision to travel to MHA side of the world where he's heard the engineers of UA could help him to achieve this goal. It's there he manages to convince the school to help him and they do so by upgrading both his battle suit and his bicycle.
Our story will begin with Mumen Rider now being able to protect the innocent much better. He's still not much of a fighter really and yeah the new battle suit he wears at least helps boost his strength a little bit, but his real strength comes from him being a shield. No matter how tough his foe, no matter how many times they knock him down, no matter how much he's bled? He gets right back up time and time and time again. Even if other heroes need to finish off the villain or monster? He's just proud to know he kept an innocent from getting harmed.
Now, sounding a bit less formal for a moment. MHA creator Kohei Horikoshi once stated that Rumi Usagiyama/Mirko's ideal lover would be someone stronger or perhaps equal to her. However, he never explicitly stated it had to be through physical strength alone. She herself might believe that's the case, but here's this quirkless, powerless "weakling" calling himself the cyclist of Justice and just being a veritable meatshield who keeps having to be saved by other heroes time and time again. Yet no matter what he's always THERE. Standing in front of foes he has no chance against. Just taking hits and every time he should just stay down and wait to be saved? He gets back up. Even after she keeps telling him to just give up, go home, quit being a hero after saving his ass for the billionth time? The next day she sees him doing it all over again. So why does she start to admire him? Maybe even respect him a little? Why does her stomach get all tight when she sees him in danger and has that urge to rush to his side to save him every time? He's weak! Useless! Pathetic! Kinda cute though.
