InvestUs was your typical investment brokerage firm. White collar, mid level floor in a big office building, everything nice and chic and modern. It had around 30 employees, but all of them were men. Every single one. They had never even had a woman on payroll before.
But they had need for a new secretary, after the man filling the role had left on good terms. After holding interviews, they finally settled on a woman named Delaney, who seemed to have office experience but hadn't had steady employment for a while. Today was her first day.
It was a Monday, and Mondays meant an executive meeting first thing in the morning. Get everyone on the same page for the rest of the week. It was held in a conference room with two glass walls that looked out into the rest of the office. A massive TV occupied one of the standard walls, at the head of the long table, which displayed important information for them to go over in the meeting.
In the first two seats on either side of the table were the firm's partners,
Mark Sterling and George Dorin. Behind them were the CFO, Tom Bringam, and the COO, Scott Wilson. The back of the table included a handful of leads, most importantly of whom was Jordan Todd, the analytics lead. At the every foot of the table was Delaney, with a tablet she had been provided to keep notes.
"Good morning everyone," Mark said. "Hope you all had a good weekend. Before we get started today, I wanted to introduce our new secretary, who will be keeping notes in all our meetings."
He turned to Delaney and gestured with an open hand, "Why don't you introduce yourself for us?"
