Idk why, but I've always felt I write better when I'm listening to music. In theory it doesn't make sense, you would think that it's a distraction, right? It's mostly metal music as well, but there's some Miley Cyrus and some pop punk classics mixed in as well.

Am I the insane one here? Lol

Nope. Whatever works for you, works for you.

When I write, I like to have a playlist of instrumental tracks playing in the background.

I like to listen to things in the theme of the roleplay. Like some fun fantasy tavern music in fantasy stuff, more techno or EDM for sci-fi, dark ominous metal for horror and so on.

I absolutely love listening to music when I'm writing, even reading.
Many people are like "how???" but I find it relaxing and it even puts me in a good mindset for whatever I'm doing.
But, this is coming from someone that listens to music while doing any and everything.
Driving, exercising, cleaning, taking a shower, hobbies, etc.

Man, I wish I could listen to music and write at the same time! Super jealous of those of you who can, but I'm far too distractable to do that. I have the attention span of a gnat. >_<

I love to listen to music when I write, but it usually needs to be a certain type of music.

My go-to genres are ambient/psybient, drone, Shibuya-Kei, synthwave/darksynth, black metal, post-rock/metal,instrumental prog rock/metal, math-rock, breakcore future-funk, IDM and eurobeat. Some death metal and deathcore also works. Generally atmospheric or heavy genres, bands and artists where I don't have to pay too much attention to the lyrics. If it's an album I have already heard that also helps.

I don't usually try to match it with the mood of what I write. I just match it with what I want to listen as well. So you can get me writing a wholesome and cute scene while Morbid Angel or Darkthrone is blasting, or you can get me writing extremely emotional scene with Capsule or Serani Poji.
