Tale of Three Cities | Twins Divided
Setting|
|Dark Fantasy
For this story, I am looking for a writing partner who loves worldbuilding. This story will require each of us to create a culture around a city of demi-humans who worship a living god. I admit that's kind of a lot to have in an opening line, but the heart of this story is about an incestuous romance between twins who are reunited in their 30s. I understand that incest is a dealbreaker for a lot of people which is why I'm mentioning it up here. So that's now two things that are kind of a lot out of the gate. I should clarify I'm not really interested in sex, I mostly want to focus on this unhealthy relationship that spawns based on their circumstances as we each play a character dealing with trauma. So if after all of that, you are still interested then please read on, it gets better from here.
This will be a dark fantasy story where we will both be required to GM portions of the story when in our respective city that we have worldbuilt. That way we each have something to explore, and learn about. So this will require both of us to RP all the characters from the city we create. There is a third city and we can sort of go halfies on it if our characters ever go there. We can discus this all more in depth when we start planning.
I am looking for a descriptive partner who writes in the third person. Preferably 4 paragraphs on average, with exceptions going to shorter scenes with heavy dialogue or longer ones requiring heavy descriptions or inner thoughts. I prefer to RP on site in private messages. As mentioned before, I am mostly looking for romance in this RP, not sex. I've become increasingly more asexual as the years have gone by though I still adore romantic stories between women. If that's a big deal breaker for you, then we might not work out. I can still do sex scenes if the plot absolutely calls for it, but if it shifts to a main focus, I will lose interest.
Continue below for the set up and main hook, then below that will be the base lore that we both will build upon together
The Plot Hook
They are identical twins, living a meager life on a farm. The People of the small settlement called; Forgotten Keep, have minimal resources, much of it was brought to ashes nearly a century ago, leaving the soil sour and tainted. In order to survive, the Forgotten Keep must trade with two cities at war with one another. Their peoples are made up of demi-god-like races, each race a reflection of the god they serve. They can not reproduce so they require humans from the Forgotten Keep for their god to transform them, and in return, they give the meager humans resources for their survival. A twisted, symbiotic relationship.
Each year, humans are offered up for tribute, and this year, the twins are among them. They were promised that they'd at least get to stay together as the tributes were separated into two groups, however, both Vangards sent by the two opposing gods, each took notice of the twins. It was deemed unfair that only one of the gods were being offered a matching set, so the Vanguards decided to split them evenly and that was the last they saw of one another until the time our story starts, 20-35ish years later.
Each of us will be playing one of the twins. Together we can come up with their names, base appearance, and some of their core memories together. I'm thinking the age of which they are separated will be somewhere in their teens. Then whichever we decide, will determine how long it has been as I want it to be roughly double their age + a couple of years, so that they have lived longer apart than they have together and have lived as this new being with this new doctrine for longer than their old life. This way when they meet as enemies and recognize one another, they will be overcome with joy at being reunited but then it will become painfully obvious that they are now too different, even so, they are drawn to one another and an unhealthy/toxic relationship will develop.
I want there to be a lot of trauma between them due to their separation and the way they were raised since and they have now basically become alien to one another. I figure they will meet during some kind of skirmish or violent encounter and perhaps something happens, separating them from their people, leaving them stranded and trapped together and this is when they recognize one another.
Before we begin, we will each workshop what these two opposing cultures are like. I'm content to come up with something together, but only enough to understand their core differences, then I want each of us to develop this city, culture, religion, and god on our own, this way we understand about as much as our characters do. Everyone at least knows what the two cultures are about, but we will each learn more details of one other's culture as we progress. While I want them to be opposites, I don't want a good/evil situation. More of a both are pretty bad, but have good things and bad to each they just need to be different.
As a baseline, Imagine these two gods like eldritch otherworldly beings, or like an accurate depiction of a demon or an angel, so utterly unhuman and weird, and then the demi-humans will look part human part angel/demon. Again this is just a default suggestion, we can workshop as we go, I've been looking online for lots of interesting image references for examples we can use for building our ideas.
Ultimately this will hopefully result in a long-term story and a twisted romance between twin sisters who have now been brainwashed by opposing ideologies.
If I haven't scared you off yet, read on for the introduction lore for the world, and then let me know what you think.
Angel | Demon (Default examples, we can better define appearances after we conceptualize them together they don't even need to look like or be angels and demons, just something inspired by the two gods, which we will also conceptualize based on reference images.)
The land of Lorastrin was home to a small, peaceful, yet growing kingdom of humankind, at least, until they came; two inhuman eldritch beings of opposing doctrines descended from the stars themselves. They did not understand humanity, nor did they attempt to try, as they were far too consumed by their war against one another.
The humans of Lorastrin were both fascinated and fearful of these powerful beings for they brought much destruction to their lush, flourishing land, but their powers also granted powerful boons and riches beyond comprehension.
It did not take long for the Lorastrians, once a loving, welcoming community, to become divided themselves. Two groups formed religious sects based on these opposing doctrines and began to dedicate their life to this way of thinking.
The beings, who had no names of their own, were given names by these two groups. One was called Astra, and the other became known as Lore.
The Acolytes of Lore and the Keepers of Astra soon left their city behind. Banished by the king who grew tired of the infighting. The Acolytes and the Keepers left with their god, each building a city on unclaimed land, leaving the old city in flames and ruins.
With nothing left but a castle and a city of ashes, with barely enough people remaining to call themselves a town, the King gave it a new name. They were now the people of the Forgotten Keep. All the while, Lore and Astra began to ascend their most faithful, creating amalgamized hybrids of their own flesh and human essence, forever known as the Lorians and the Astrites
Once each society progressed, three very different cultures began to form, all somewhat dependent on one another. The people of the Forgotten Keep managed to repopulate, new farms developed on the ashes of their former city, but they were heavily dependent on the imports of the other two cities, and the two cities devoted to gods needed something from the Forgotten as well.
The Cities of Lore and Astra were no longer populated by humans, they had become demigods, part of the god they serve, but this made it impossible to procreate. So each year they turned to the Forgotten Keep for new humans to welcome into their cults. Now we arrive to our story...
