Question GIFs of Literal Porn

I understand that NSFW images are allowed. But are people allowed to post GIFs of literal porn on the site? I just found some and it very much feels extremely uncomfortable and even with an NSFW warning on the thread, I was not at all expecting to find literal porn on the page that I clicked to.

Yet I can't find any rules specific to posting literal porn...

Help?

Did I seriously miss that people are actually allowed to post literal porn here?

It feels like an NSFW label has a very wide range of things it can indicate here, though, such that it is very easy to stumble upon actual porn when you're not expecting it. NSFW could mean a tasteful nude art piece, it could mean erotic writing, and it could mean literal porn.

I can open the first two in public settings that aren't necessarily work as long as I'm discrete.

Opening the last one isn't ok in any setting other than the complete privacy of my home.

Doesn't that seem problematic that the same label can mean three different things that change the appropriateness of opening it? There are some people who label literally all their threads nsfw because of smut. And smut itself isn't something to avoid. But now I feel like I need to avoid literally everything on this site because it's all labeled nsfw even though some of it is very much more so than others.

I mean, it's kind of in the name, no?

NSFW= not safe for work

Look at it later if it's problematic for you to look at, at work.

In short it's best to assume the worst if you see NSFW. Yes, it's a broad term - but the meaning behind it is the same whether it's a tasteful picture of a naked person or raunchy sex. It's for imagery or content that you wouldn't want to be caught looking at while at work.

If you feel uncomfortable with that I would suggest simply not looking at NSFW content or threads.

It's not that I looked at something problematic at work. It's more that I got a message from someone looking to rp wth me. I clicked on their profile to investigate them as a person here. And when I went to their threads, a bunch of gifs from their request thread showed up before I even clicked into the thread. And they were all porn.

So the gifs were all visible on their profile - which isn't able to be labeled NSFW.

Because they're the first thing on their RT, so they show up in the preview of the thread on their profile.

So I got to it without even clicking into anything labeled NSFW. I was just looking at a profile and seeing what threads they had posted in recently. And BAM, porn in my face.

If they had nsfw in the title, then they gave you a fair warning.

There was NSFW in the thread title, but I see the thread title at the same time as I see the images when I'm on their profile. There isn't a choice to back away before the images load and there is porn in my face.

Ultimately - if they have NSFW in the title of the thread, a user has done their due diligence for warning a user of NSFW content. We've tried to make it so BMR is largely browse-able in most settings but we won't and likely can't account for every potential way NSFW content can be seen.

There is a “flaw” in the system where images/gifs show up in your news feed and also in recent activity on someone’s profile, so the safest thing to do is stay clear of these feeds when not at home (or always, if you don’t want the risk of it flashing in your face) - because you can’t know for sure what will come up.

Looking through someone’s postings (not recent activity but the tab next to it), however, will show you text only and no pictures/gifs. That way, if you see that the thread title having NSFW in it, you can skip clicking into it until you are home/alone when you can expect pornographic content to show up.
