Lainey Wilson or Kacey Musgraves, in my opinion, deserved to have won Best Country Album. Both of these women had fantastic songs on their albums that were memorable and stuck with you. Musgraves may sound more like folk/soft rock than true country, but the album was still fantastic.
Look, I know some people are mad. I am not one of them, I admit that I am a Kendrick Stan. Sorry, Not Sorry! I'm currently trying to find tickets (that won't cost me what's left of my soul) as a graduation gift for my daughter since he'll be in town for the Grand Nation Tour in June, weeks after her high school graduation.
Kendrick Lamar earned Song of the Year and Record of the Year easily; Not Like Us, was everywhere for months, and there was no escape from the song. By bringing it back into the public eye with the litigation and refusing to accept the defeat, Drake did himself no favors. I'm sorry, but none of the other songs nominated could dethrone him. If you haven't heard his music yet, you will get the opportunity to do so next Sunday since he's headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And yes, I am tempted to dedicate a whole Journal post to Kendrick next Sunday.
I don't want to make another journal with my poor editing/coding attempts. I've been trying to learn xtables over the last few days, due to being inspired by a new story. I know they might not look the best (compared to the many talented people I see using xtables and other coding around the site. BTW they're so stunning), but I'm proud of myself for the attempt and opening up Photoshop again to edit images and create text without help.
I should post music since that's what I made this journal for... My apologies for posting randomness...
Lately I've been staring at the dark
Turn my inner demons into art
Struggle with the pain inside my heart
Wish I didn't care about what they'll
Say what you want to say
What you want to say
What you want her to say
What you want
No one
Say what you want to say
What you want to say
What you want to say
What you want
No one
No one stops you from being yourself You know it's all in your head
I know that there has to be someone else out there who remembers the old Adult Swim Bumps... (please someone be older like me...)
What is a Bump?
A bump is a break between advertising and programming for playing bumps. A bump is typically used to announce the next episode to air on the station; however, Adult Swim took this brief interlude to a higher level.
Adult Swim aired short to medium-length clips between their shows with a wide array of themes; from music and film with a focus on the abstract, absurd, disturbing, serene, and peaceful. The beginnings of my love for Lo-Fi music came from Adult Swim Bumps, and just a bit ago I stumbled upon a website that has archived most of the bumps from over the years, dating back to 2001.
One of my favorite bumps was when they finally revealed the title and artist of a bump that I was obsessed with, searching high and low to find out who it was.
I wish I could directly link some bumps so they showed in the post, they are only about 15 seconds in length at max, Meow Meow: Stretchy Cat never fails to make me smile. (I bet you can link them but I freaking suck!)
Here are two of my favorite bump songs that I found on YouTube long ago after finding the full versions of these two songs. The song from the Baggage Room thatAS finally gifted the viewers and another from Samurai Champloo. (I really should rewatch that show soon...)
Sorry I am so happy now, I'll be going through that website for the next week and finally finding out the title to some songs that I was obsessed with back in the day.
I would like to explore the idea of an arranged marriage between a couple who has met only once or twice with rather brief exchanges with one another before the wedding. I'm open to this being in a setting that is modern, modern/fantasy, or fantasy. Is this a marriage to join two rival companies together or neighboring kingdoms?
The woman would rightfully have reservations, yet her family would emphasize the importance of tradition and duty. Perhaps the man is charming and composed, with an intensity in his eyes that both intrigues and intimidates the woman.
Initially, their relationship could be sweet and romantic or it could be distant and cold with the pair staying away from one another unless the man wants sexual relations from the woman.
There's something about the man's confidence and expert guidance that draws her in, and she finds herself wanting to please him. He sets different boundaries and rules to give the woman a false sense of security wanting to see what her limits might be before pushing past them.
As time passes, the man's controlling nature could become more pronounced. Making decisions for the woman, from her wardrobe to her social interactions, along with things in the bedroom. In the beginning, she might appreciate the attention, but over time she begins to feel suffocated and less like a person. Perhaps the couple enters a power struggle; The woman's innocence clashes with the man's true nature, even while the woman has conflicting feelings regarding her submission.
Everything is negotiable as I would like for this to be a true collaboration
Today's my birthday and I turn another year older.
I can't help but think about my past and what's in store for the future. I think it has more to do with the fact the next 6 weeks are going to be a whirlwind. I thought that I would be writing something very profound and insightful but I started thinking about wishes and how sometimes people have all their hopes and dreams riding on a single wish. Rather than wishing for something, this year I wanted to set little goals/thoughts for myself. (I might add to this list throughout the day)
- I want to give myself credit more often.
- I want to improve creatively, be it through my writing, getting back into Photoshop, or learning more about coding in general.
- I want to be open to new experiences that might appear unexpectedly.
- I want to be more courageous.
- Always make room to take risks, and be creative.
- Smile more often.
Anyway, forgive the personal stuff, I'll get on to the music.
Marvin Gaye
Born on April 2, 1939, Marvin Gaye passed away tragically on April 1, 1984, the day before his 45th birthday, when his father; Marvin Gaye Sr. killed him as Marvin attempted to break up an argument between his parents. After it was discovered Gaye Sr. had a brain tumor, his father was granted probation and a suspended six-year prison sentence; the elder Gaye Sr. passed away in 1998.
Some people may think it is strange to look up which celebrity was born on your birthday... look I also share birthdays with Pedro Pascal, Christopher Meloni (Stabler), Jesse Plemons (Landry... Clear Eyes Full Hearts, Can't Lose!), and many others. However, I was aware of the fact that I shared a birthday with Marvin Gaye from a very young age. In first grade, I dressed up alongside my classmates in trash bags, along with the sunglasses from the 1990s; the ones with the colored arms that were so popular and hip back then, and performed a routine to the song "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by "The Californian Raisins." There is still a VSH tape in my mother's basement that I need to find and destroy of that performance... When I was six years old, I remember spending weeks practicing the song and the dance routine to make sure that I remembered every word and move. My mother then explained to me that the Raisins performed covers of well-known songs. (Sorry rambling about personal shit.)
From my research which might be wrong, there are 1398 samples, 919 covers, and 26 remixes of Marvin Gaye's music over the years. There is one song, 'Just Like Music' by Eric Sermon, which samples Gaye's demo version of 'I Got My Music' that came out in 2001, which is still a favorite of mine I always make a point to listen to on my birthday. I also think the demo version of 'I Got My Music' is better than the album version, but that's just my personal opinion which may not be shared by many.
There's a mashup of Marvin Gaye's, 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' and Gorillaz's 'Feel Good Inc.' from DJ Hero, which to this day I still love so much. (I'll make a whole journal entry about Gorillaz at some point in the future...) I feel the songs perfectly play off one another in a way that I could've never imagined until hearing the mix myself when playing a demo of DJ Hero at Best Buy when it came out. Jesus, I'm really feeling old today... I am so thankful this version is up on YouTube otherwise I would've been a bit better about the fact a CD soundtrack for the game was never released like it should've been. The game was truly before its time and I will forever stand firm in that belief.
Below I've shared the following songs and their lyrics:
'Just Like Music' by Erick Sermon Featuring Marvin Gaye 'I Got My Music' (Vocal Version) by Marvin Gaye 'Trouble Man' by Marvin Gaye
[Intro: Erick Sermon & Marvin Gaye]
Just like music..
Uh-huh, ayy yoyo, uh-huh yeah yeah, uh uh uh
There's no doubt, no doubt, no doubt, uh
Worrdd up...
Ahhh babyyy...
Just like music...
[Verse 1: Erick Sermon & Marvin Gaye] To relax my mind, so I can be free
And ab-sorb sound that keep me 'round
Doin my thang, constantly with no worries
Peace to Keith Murray.. ("Just like music")
To keep me flowin and keep me goin
And keep me growin, and keep me the E from knowin
What happens out there, is not my concern
You wanna die it's not my turn ("Just like music")
To do somethin' to me like jump in the Mercedes
On the highway, doin' over eighty
Without music baby.. ("Oww! I'll go crazy.. just like music")
Make me call my homey on the phone Like there's somethin' new out, that got me in the zone
Just that feelin, got me
I wish music can adopt me ("Just like music")
[Chorus: Marvin Gaye] Turn on some music, I got my music
Turn on some music, I got my music
Turn on some music, I got my music Turn on some music, I got my music - just like music
[Verse 2: Erick Sermon & Marvin Gaye]
Put me in the mood with my woman
Got me in the ear, sayin sweet nothings
Make love come out the mouth, no frontin Like all of a sudden, ("Just like music") Takin away your worries and cares Any problems, music'll be right there
Together match yo, we a perfect pair
Is that true Marvin? ("Yeahhhhh! Music")
Yo, to get you to bang this
Body soul-snatcher, universal language
It be the light, so open up
This is it, what the fuck? ("Just like music")
One fly tune
That have black and white vibe in one room
No confrontation, parlay all night
It's just the sensation ("Just like music")
[Chorus: Marvin Gaye] Turn on some music, I got my music
Turn on some music, I got my music
Turn on some music, I got my music
Turn on some music, I got my music - just like music
[Verse 3: Marvin Gaye] Music is the soul of the man Music makes a happy day
Music makes the clouds roll by baby
Your music is my tears inside my eyes (Just like music)
Your music makes me want to sing
Girl, music is a joy to bring (Just like music)
Music is my heart and soul, more precious thangold (Turn on some music, I got my music)
Happiness today is just a song away, just a song
(Turn on some music, I got my music)
I love your music baby (I got my music)
I don't worry 'bout a thing (Turn on some music, I got my music - just like music)
[Outro: Marvin Gaye] Hey (La-da-da-da-daaaa-dah-dah-dahh) doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Turn on some music (La-da-da-da-daaaa) turn on some music Just like music (La-da-da-da-daaaa-dah-dah-dahh) doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Dreams of you, dreams of you
Are so fine, so fine, baby
Since I woke up
So is my state of mind
Since we've been apart, baby
God has healed my heart
Used to go out looking for love
Now love is looking for me
And sweet music keeps me happy
Not so long ago, darling, I was feeling sad
Who would've kissed my lips
I would've still felt bad, ah baby
There were times I've wondered if I was insane
Ah baby, I simply let my tear drop fall like rain
Oh baby, but when I kiss your lips
The clouds begin to roll away
Uh, down to my finger tips
I feel the happiness each day
Oh, my Mama said to me
She told me, son love goes where you take it
So, stay with the spirit, boy
I feel that you gonna make it, yeah
Got me wondering, yeah 'Cause music's been my therapy
Taking the pain from all my anatomy
Music has never let me down It's my symphony, always stayin' in me
Who'd know that the world ain't right, ah baby
Lots of people uptight I'll go crazy if something ever happened to my musical thrill
And darling your love is just like music Music is the soul of the man
Music makes a happy day Music makes the clouds roll by, baby
Your music kissed my tears and set my eyes
Your music makes me want to sing
Your music is a joy to bring Music is my heart and soul
It's more precious thangold
You're like a song in my heart
I love every part
A song, you're like a song Happiness today is just a song away, just a song
I love your music, baby
I don't worry 'bout a thing Oh, turn on your music, baby
See my happiness beam Your love is music
Oh my darling, yeah
Your love is music, ah baby, yeah
And music is my life
Turn on some music more
Hey, turn on some music more
I got my music, hey, hey
I love my music, hey
We need the music
I got my music, hey
I love the music, oh
Turn on some music
Get off the music, ah
Turn up the music
Let's have the music, ha
[Verse 1]
I come up hard, baby, but now I'm cool
I didn't make it, sugar, playing by the rules
I come up hard, baby, but now I'm fine
I'm checking trouble, sugar, moving down the line
I come up hard, baby, but that's okay
'Cause Trouble Man don't get in my way
[Post-Verse 1]
I come up hard, baby
I've been for real, baby
Gonna keep moving, gonna go to town
I come up hard, I come up gettin' down There's only three things, that's for sure
Taxes, death, and trouble, oh
This I've known, baby, this I've known, sugar
Yeah, ain't gonna let it sweat me, babe
[Interlude]
It's got me singing
Yeah, yeah
Woo-ooh
[Verse 2]
I come up hard, baby, I had to fight
Took care of my business with all my might
I come up hard, awful hard, I had to win
Then start all over and win again
I come up hard, but that's okay
'Cause Trouble Man don't get in my way, hey, hey
[Bridge] I know some places And I see some faces
I got good connections
They dig my directions
What people say, that's okay
They don't bother me, no
I'm ready to make it
Don't care what the weather
Don't care 'bout no trouble
Got myself together
I feel that kind of protection
That's all around me
[Post-Verse 2]
I come up hard, baby
I've been for real, baby, with the troubled minds
I'm moving, going to town
I come up hard, I come up gettin' down There's only three things for sure
Taxes, death, and trouble, oh
This I've known, baby, this I've known, baby
Ain't gonna let it sweat me, babe
Woo, oh lord, baby
[Verse 3]
Woo, I come up hard, but now I'm cool
I didn't make it, baby, playing by the rules
I come up hard, baby, now I'm fine
I'm checking trouble, sugar
Yes, Coachella, starts tomorrow, running the weekend of April 11-13 and again the following weekend April 18-20th Yes, I'm a basic bitch because I look forward to the artists announced each year, hoping there are a few I have heard of and would love to listen to.
