The king of Anthrea walked down to the training yards along with his counselors and war leaders, observing the various soldiers as they trained, some using swords and shields, while others using bare hands.
King Orthos had recently decided that the various species would be integrated within his military, a decision that came with great resistance from the human population. But he was convinced that the non humans could help make them the strongest military within the various kingdoms.

“So which units will be deploying first?” The king asked as they walked, his chamberlain looked over a list “the um Lycans your grace, along with the scout unit.” The kind headed to the arena pits where they lycans were training.
They were a mix of men and women, who looked mostly human, the men wore only tough pants or scraps of leather armor, the females much the same with wraps for their chests.
The few defining differences were the eyes, and general physical traits.

Their eyes were all an eerie shade of yellow, and their bodies each were in better shape then most humans, male or female, their muscles were fairly defined.

The king stopped to watch as two of the Lycan squared off in the circular ring, their style of fighting was…efficiently brutal, they threw punches that would rattle ribs, their claw-like nails tearing flesh like blade.

It wasn’t the first time that Orthos was jealous of the many advantages that non-humans had over humans. But that was the power he hoped to yoke to his kingdom, to make them all stronger in the end.
“I want them shuffled in together before they depart, every human partnered with a Lycan. Have the officers do likewise.”

At his words the training suddenly stopped, every Lycan turning to look his way, he internally cursed their heightened sense of hearing.
He knew they all didn’t think much of this new way of doing things, many of them thought humans inferior.
But he met each gaze with his own until they looked away, he was their king and would not go against his wishes.
“I want them ready to move at dawn, have their units followed by supply wagons, and at least one messenger falcon per commander.”
Before he turned to leave he looked down at his Lycan commander who nodded to him.

Later in the evening.

The barracks were a busy mess as the quartermaster assigned Lycans with humans, more than once having to stop fights before they broke out.
Dack Feldar was no exception, he sat with his pack sister Liah as they both waited for their names to be called, Dack had already been assigned someone, but threw the man across the room when the human jokingly called Dack a ‘dog’.

Needless to say his alpha wasn’t pleased and threatened to remove Dack from the ranks if he couldn’t control his temper.
Liah was a bit more optimistic, but for the wrong reasons “perhaps after the first fight, the king will see we Lycan are better off with our own kind.”
She joked as she ate some dried meat.

“it’s a poor decision, humans only survive by building their cities and metal works, they couldn’t hope to beat any of us in fair combat.” Dack grumbled as he tied off the top of his pack and shouldered it.
Liah smirked “just try not to let anything happen to YOUR fragile human ok? Bet mine lives longer than yours.” She teased, Dack thought about it for a moment “I’ll take that bet, my human lives longer then yours.” Liah barked out a laugh just as the quartermaster called out Dacks name “deal! If I win, you have to by the pack a blood ox for feast night!”

Dack nodded and got up, headed to the quartermaster, there his eyes fell upon the human female that was to be his partner, this irked him badly, a female human? Ugh he probably would lose the bet now. But he tried to be polite this time as he looked down at his new partner “I am Dack Feldar…” it was hard to keep the sour look from his face.
