Echo's character thread.gif
Welcome to the Character Thread. A place to house the many ladies and gents I manage to create. Whether or not they venture off into their own tales is another matter. I've likely many more characters that will not make it here, but the main ones worth reading I shall place within the reply boxes that follows this brief description.

Thank you, to those who take the time read through this collection of oddities who dwell within the recesses of my brain.

Name
: Selene Ardent
Age: 19-25
Race: Human
Class: Mage
Appearance: Selene is a striking figure, standing at 5'9", with long, dark auburn hair that cascades like a river of fire, contrasting sharply with her pale, almost translucent skin. Her eyes, a deep amber, seem to glow faintly when she channels her magic, giving her a mystical and commanding presence. She typically wears dark, enchanted robes of rich black and burgundy, adorned with silver filigree. Her most notable feature is a silver necklace holding a crystalline pendant that serves as a focus for her magic, passed down through her family. The magic she wields is both beautiful and dangerous, but her demeanour is often cool, her thoughts hidden behind a mask of calm determination.

Background:

Selene Ardent was born into a family of revered mages, raised in the study of the arcane arts, specializing in light and elemental magic. From an early age, Selene exhibited unparalleled control over her abilities, gaining a reputation as one of the most promising mages in the land. Her skill with magic was only rivaled by her strict moral compass, her loyalty to the light and the realms she swore to protect.

However, her life took a tragic turn when an ancient vampire lord, Alaric Draven, awoke from centuries of slumber. Driven by a desire for absolute domination, Alaric waged a brutal campaign to claim the world as his own, turning entire cities into dark fortresses and overwhelming any who dared to oppose him. As an immortal vampire with mastery over shadow magic, he was nearly unstoppable. Selene, along with a coalition of mages and warriors, tried to stand against him, but Alaric's power grew exponentially. With each victory, he devoured the life force of those he defeated, making himself more powerful and nearly invincible.

In a final desperate attempt, Selene performed a forbidden ritual, one that could seal Alaric's powers temporarily, but at a grave cost. The ritual worked, but she was left with a scar across her heart—one that tethered her soul to Alaric's, marking her as his future prey. Though she survived, Alaric's influence over her grew stronger, and she knew that if she didn't act soon, he would eventually track her down and claim her as his own, breaking the seal and unleashing his full strength.

The only way to defeat Alaric once and for all is to find the one thing he fears—another vampire, an ancient creature with the power to kill him. However, mages and vampires have never been allies. They are natural enemies, bound by centuries of hatred and mistrust. Selene knows that to stand any chance against Alaric, she will have to seek help from one of the very creatures she has spent her life studying and avoiding.

Personality:
Selene is intelligent, determined, and fiercely independent, but the weight of her situation has made her cautious and reserved. Her loyalty to her cause runs deep, and she will sacrifice anything to protect her world from Alaric's reign. She is not easily swayed, preferring to rely on her intellect and magical abilities, but as her desperation grows, she is forced to put aside her pride and seek help from someone she has always considered an enemy. The idea of working with a vampire troubles her, and she constantly wrestles with the fear that she may become tainted by their darkness.

Her sense of honor remains unbroken, though, and her goal is to save not just herself, but the world from the rise of Alaric's darkness. She knows that in order to do this, she must confront her own biases and face the uncomfortable reality that sometimes, the enemy of your enemy is your only ally.

Conflict:
Selene's greatest internal struggle is her unwillingness to trust vampires—creatures of darkness and corruption—while simultaneously understanding that she has no choice but to ally with one. She is afraid of being corrupted by their influence, particularly since vampires are inherently seductive, with their power, charisma, and immortality. She also fears that by seeking out a vampire, she may be leading herself closer to Alaric, fulfilling the prophecy that she would one day fall under his control.

Externally, Alaric's shadow looms large, and she knows that with every passing day, he grows stronger, more aware of her location, and closer to breaking the seal she placed upon him. She must find a vampire powerful enough to stand against Alaric, but all of them have their own agendas, and many are reluctant to aid a human, let alone one with a mark linking her to their greatest enemy.

Motivation:
Selene's motivation is driven by the desire to save her world from Alaric's growing influence, to put an end to the vampire lord's reign of terror, and to protect those she loves, however few those that are left. However, a personal, more urgent motivation has begun to emerge: the fear that Alaric will eventually claim her and break the seal, unleashing his full power. This terror fuels her decision to seek out a vampire's help, even if it means compromising her own values.

mperor Lucius has passed in battle, a tragedy that could have been avoided but alas, it was not meant to be. Leaving behind legitimate heirs, though had found the son wanting, (I know, I know, just like the movie).

E
mpress Claudia is not only the sister to the ruler of Rome, but she also detests her brother and how he has been running the lands that had been so painfully collected to the ground. Many of Rome's men are loyal to the empress, as is the majority of the Senate. The problem therein lies with the people of Rome. She is beloved, sure, intelligent, aye, but she is also one who knows how to read her opponent.

Having been against the Games herself, feeling that the men who battled and lost their lives in the arena, could have been used for far better things. (I know what you're thinking, you perv!) But really. Soldiers. A chance for the men to earn their citizenship through service.

To her.

Finding that the buying of slaves who knew their way around a sword and using them not only in the games but also as a means to glean information. Most are willing when it is their freedom or their lives. Granted, they're Gladiators eventually, but fighting for the empress has its perks..

Name: Nolarana "Lara" Lavellan
Race: Dalish Elf
Clan: Lavellan

With the recent events of the world of Thedas, Clan Lavellan had been placed at the forefront of the Inquisition. A clan that had prided themselves for remaining out of mind and out of sight, choosing to keep to the Free Marches instead of venturing closer to the Humans, it had been on a whim that the Keeper had decided to send his trusted 1st to investigate the goings on of Human kind and their Conclave which held the hopes of so many in the land of Thedas.

63833a9e8f191124fe8d1b2e97586a94.jpg With the aid of the Inquisition to save Clan Lavellan, our dear cousin to the Inquisitor had been dispatched by the Keeper to keep the 1st "in the know".

Red Lyrium had been the cause of the madness that had lead to the attack on the clan. With the aid of Commander Cullen Rutherford's men, the elves were able to fight off the indoctrinated/corrupted nobles near Wycome.

Deshanna Istimaethoriel Lavellan, wise beyond her years, had
dispatched Lara with a mission of her own. To relay the location of a small mine of red lyrium. A cave not too far off from Wycome, the city in which they were attacked, had also housed a plethora of the blighted lyrium, enough that it had alarmed the Keeper and had prompted the message to the Inquisitor.

5d143a11d84323b5fc5f3f7309afa937.jpg With a firm nod, Lara set off to find her cousin and aid in the destruction of the red lyruim, at all costs.

But what she did not know was that the man who would help her destroy that which corrupts, would steal her heart and make her think differently about humans, whom she had believed, (by experience and rumours of her kind), to be evil against the Elvhen.

Cullen, had changed her mind on so many fronts.

But that is a tale in need of writing...

31698f3c2940f8e4a0d1a8ea79855908.jpg King Raygeur Ravimières

Having lost his wife during Isolde's birth. He has been at odds with the *insert kingdom's name here* since before he even took the throne of his father. With any kingdom, there is always a threat looming in the distance and when things begin to heat between another rival side, he decides to make peace with the long-standing enemy-ish kingdom.

A marriage treaty had been drawn up at his request and sent over to *insert kingdom's name here*. Whether or not Isolde wished it, he would see the two kingdoms finally at peace.

13604f7b2b1e5e71482b67044586f1c0.jpg Older Brother and heir to Raygeur. Guess what his name is.

Prince Raygeur Ravimières II and since he is to inherit the throne, he believes that his father's idea of marrying off Isolde is ridiculous. A bit war-hungry, possibly... or does he know something the others do not?

Name: Aria Laurent

Alias: The Silent Muse

Age: 28

Occupation: Artist - painting, sculpting, photography
Hair: Dark, nearly black, flowy and curly, flowing freely down her back or pulled up into a sloppy yet calculated bun.

Eyes: Piercing, dark eyes, firm and yet mostly soft when in deep contemplation. It is as though they see through you and never at you.

Height: 5'8

Build: Lean, thin, but with subtle strength in the posture and movements.

Style: Eclectic mix from vintage to avant-garde, often in dark tones, such as black, deep reds, and oases of gold or silver. One would normally see her wearing simple but elegant pieces of leisured taste, impeccably put together, yet not too flashy.

Aria represents an absolutely curious mind interested in human nature, psychology, and those emotions people cannot see but that move them. She sometimes speaks on themes that are scarcely followed, because she dissects thoughts and feelings with precision, leaving the persons who listen to her a bit in awe—or confused.

She rarely talks about her private life, since she prefers everyone to guess in their imagination over her background. Few people actually know the truth about her background. Her presence is magnetic; it leaves people captivated but not quite sure over her true intention.

Despite her mystique, she is an extremely empathetic soul. She listens more than she talks, and the few who interact with her often feel like they have been seen on a level that not many can fathom.

Aria's art is an extension of her philosophy on the world. She believes that beauty is found in the raw, unspoken truths of existence-love, loss, joy, and suffering. She uses her work to capture what words cannot express.

Backstory:
Aria grew up in a remote, affluent part of the world, where silence and solitude were her closest companions. From a young age, she exhibited a rare talent for translating human emotion into tangible forms—her drawings were like windows into the soul. Her early years were marked by a deeply introspective nature, often spending hours observing people, studying their behavior, and trying to decipher the emotions beneath the surface.

While her family was very encouraging about her gifts, they never really understood her need to be alone. They wanted her to be more social, but it was comfortable for Aria to be lost in her art. She left home at the age of 18 to study art and photography at an elite academy, where she very quickly became something of a star-not because she could fit in, but rather because she stood out.

Now, 28-year-old Aria is an enigma in the circle of art lovers. Her exhibitions are rare but highly anticipated events. As for herself, she is all but invisible during the opening event, allowing her works to introduce her.

Skills and abilities:
Aria masters several mediums-painting, sculpture, and photography. Her works are known for haunting beauty, capturing raw emotion and subtlety that usually escapes others. Her deep understanding of human nature gives her an almost unnerving ability to connect with people on an intimate level, even without speaking. This insight fuels her work, allowing her to evoke emotions in others that feel personal and deeply impactful.

Although she does not outwardly show her emotions at all times, Aria reads other people's emotional states with incredible intuitiveness. This makes her a sensitive and considerate conversational partner, though she still manages to maintain detachment from the chaos of other people's lives.

Aria observes and listens while the world teaches her much without involving her. In such a way, she will make art that will be seen as honest reflections of human nature.

Strengths:
Aria always tries to stretch boundaries in work and never resists experimenting with concepts, techniques, or ideas. She will take something as simple and innocuous and create something deep and meaningful from it. Her stoicism often makes her seem standoffish, yet it allows her to be unflappable in high-pressure situations. The quiet confidence and mystery surrounding her draws people to her, even if they can't quite explain why.

Weaknesses:
Her love of solitude and intellectual pursuits too often leaves her disconnected from others. She has a hard time forming lasting, deep connections because she often feels misunderstood.

Aria tends to mask her vulnerabilities, which makes it hard for people to be close to her. She often times unconsciously pushes them away.

While the mystery can be intriguing, at times it may annoy those who are in contact with her since getting close to her on a personal level is hard. Some find her cold and aloof.

Motivations & Goals:
Aria's ultimate aim is to leave a mark on the world through her work. She wants to make people think, feel, and question the reality around them. Though her external life may be closed to the world, Aria is always striving to understand herself. She wants to find the hidden corners of her own psyche, which she often expresses through her art. Aria aspires to be able to create a body of work that is timeless and transcendental, an art form that will continue to ring out across generations long after she is gone.

Famous Work(s):
"The Veil of Silence"
: A large-scale mixed-media detailing the tension between silence and unspoken emotions persisting beneath. It is said to have been inspired by her personal struggles with communication.

"Shadows' Embrace": A collection of photographs that can capture the utmost intimacy of time but, out of place and almost voyeuristically, the focus on the subject's face has always been dissolved. It depicts that true feelings are always shown right in front of our sight.

"Breathless": Sculptures seeming to move viewed from different angles, symbolize fluidity, changeability - just like a human emotion.

Name:
Princess Elspeth, the Shadowflame Heir

World: The Kingdom of Eldoria – A medieval realm shrouded in mist, where steel and sorcery intertwine, and whispers of rebellion hum beneath the castle's stones.
Nickname: "The Phantom Princess" – A title given to her by those who still believe in her claim to the throne, whispered in secret halls and shadowed alleyways.

Story:

Born to the noble bloodline of Eldoria, Princess Elspeth was raised in the absence of a mother's warmth. Her father, a king hardened by war and politics, remarried, not out of love, but out of necessity—to forge alliances and to produce a male heir. The Queen, cold and cunning, saw Elspeth not as a stepdaughter, but as an obstacle to her ambitions.

Raised without the tenderness of courtly life, Elspeth found solace in the clang of steel and the scent of oiled leather in the armory. The royal halls never quite fit her, but the barracks did. She trained in secret, her only allies the loyal knights who saw more fire in her than in the pampered nobles. It was there that she learned not only to wield a blade but to command respect in a world that sought to diminish her.

When her father rode away to quell tensions on the border, he did not return. The negotiations and marriage contracts crumbled into war, and the Queen wasted no time in declaring Elspeth a relic of the past. Stripped of her title, her chambers, and her right to the throne, she was cast into the barracks to live among the men who once served her. Yet, in exile, she found strength.

With the loyalty of a few steadfast guards and the whispers of rebellion growing in the streets, Elspeth steels herself for the battle to come. The Queen's grip tightens, seeking to secure the throne with a match to a powerful prince, while Elspeth sharpens her blade in the darkness.

The throne was stolen.

The people are waiting.

And a princess who was never meant to fight will become the kingdom's reckoning.
