Goldie stood there in stunned silence, ears drooping heavily. Her boyfriend - ex, now - James refused to really look at her after telling her it was over between them. He didn't do it because he had lost feelings, but because running his casino was beginning to take up too much of his time; time he couldn't afford her. And he didn't want her to think he stopped loving her.
"I-I...are you...sure...? I-I mean, you know I don't mind waiting around
...! I'm busy all the time on the floor, so it's not a big deal...!"

He couldn’t bring himself to look at her. He hated himself for it, but he knew how happy she would be with someone who would have time for her. β€œI’m.. sure.. I don’t have the time you need.. I’m sorry.. I hope you’ll be able to forgive me one day..”

"James...b-baby, please, d-don't..." She took a step forward, trying not to burst into loud pathetic wails, "W-We can make the time, we've always made the time...!"

β€œDon’t make this harder than it is..” he said. β€œPlease.. I’ve made up my mind..”

Her ears pinned back gently and she clenched her jaw tight, lips forming a thin line across her muzzle before she gave a firm nod.
"I-I'll...get my things out of the suite later..." She said softly, "Thank you...for all the fun...I-I...I'll cherish every memory..."

β€œSo will I..” he said, simply staring out the window down onto the casino floor. β€œThank you for everything..” he said.

She laced her fingers tightly together before turning to leave, stepping outside the office and giving a shaky gasp after she shut the door. She moved briskly to the elevator and took it all the way down to the casino floor, the weight of what happened finally slamming into her and she began to sob - doubling over and trying to muffle herself before her ride ended.

The elevator dinged softly as it hit the casino floor, and the door opened, mercifully, to no one.

She dried her eyes quickly and headed to the bar, taking a seat and ordering a tokyo tea cocktail. She felt like drowning, may as well be in booze.

Rocco, one of the security guards, and one of James’ good friends, saw her and walked over. β€œYikes, Goldie, what happened?” He asked as he sat next to her. Rocco wasn’t the most adept at subtlety, but he was a kind man. Odd for a bouncer, but he had a good heart. He was massive, built with muscle to match.

She looked up at the massive doberman with heartbroken eyes before looking back at her drink, "James and I broke up just now..." She answered meekly.

He grimaced. Nice one, idiot. β€œAw.. geez.. I’m sorry.. just.. split..?” He asked.

She nodded, "It wasn't anything either of us did wrong, he just...wants to prioritize work. And I so-" her voice cracked and she felt new tears well in her eyes and she had to take a pause, "so get that...and I'm supportive of his decisions no matter what, but..." Her head dropped and she whined weakly, "goddammit."

He frowned. Damn, he didn’t know James was so dug in to his work. β€œHey.. I’m really sorry..” he said as he gently pat her back. He wasn’t sure what else to do, this was not anything he’d had to deal with before. β€œNext round’s on me, okay..?”

"Thanks, hun..." She hiccupped, "I'm just glad the break up didn't come with a termination...not that James would ever or is like that...but there's always that what if..."

She took a few gulps of her drink and only winced a little, "Do me a favor and come check on me in a little bit...? I don't plan on leaving unless I fall out of my seat..."

He nodded and told the bartender to put her drinks on a table under his name before heading off to do his routes.

Goldie didn't move, just as she said, finishing her tokyo tea and asking for a long island next.
"That was real nice of Rocco to open a tab for me..." She muttered, "Maybe he feels sorry..."

The more alcohol she had, the more bitterness she had towards James. Bastard, what was wrong with him? Ruining what they had because he got busy. Rocco made his rounds and kept checking on her, and kept trying to keep the mood up, cracking jokes and just trying to take her mind off of it.

It helped; perhaps it was because she was still drinking heavy and thinking less straight, but when Rocco came to cheer her up, she felt better. Actually laughed at his jokes. Rocco was always sweet and funny.

And handsome. Where James’ features were sharp and lean, Rocco was built more solidly. He looked kinder. Eventually, his shift ended and he sat down to drink with her, laughing and joking and loving that she seemed to be doing better.
