What's the best vacation?

I find traveling to be a stressful experience and a lot of vacations are rarely as relaxing as they're supposed to be. The intrigue of travel is amazing so it's totally worth it. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

I would say my best overall vacation was actually stateside in Chicago if you can believe it; good city with lots to do and primarily I was there during Lollapalooza, which was an incredible experience. So I would say I had the most fun during that trip.

Hard to pick. I still reminisce about my trip to Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur back in 2015. I took 7 weeks off and bounced between Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. The logistics of that particular trip were surprisingly easy. The climate was more or less the same; I even had my travel coffee equipment with me (Aeropress, grinder, and scales). I wouldn't bother with it now.

These days, my favorite type of vacation is to visit cities in May-June / September-October, or go somewhere warm for a week or two in the winter.

I haven’t travelled as much as I’ve wanted, but I hope they’ll change in the future!

So far I’ve been to Italy in 2017. That was amazing, food was great, historical and art museums felt surreal to even step foot inside.

In February 2025 I’ll be going to the Czech Republic, which I’m really excited for. My mother’s side is Czechoslovakian so it’s going to be so cool to see my history up and close. Even been studying the language.

I’ve been to Guatemala on a medical mission trip, so it wasn’t a vacation per se, but it was still an unforgettable experience. Antigua was gorgeous and seeing the volcano, Fuego, up close and personal was crazy. We also went horseback riding up a volcano which was pretty astounding.

In the states I’ve been to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas. Florida was the coolest since, you know, it’s Florida and Disney is there. I went to Disney for my honeymoon, and wow was it magical! I live in Michigan but that’s home sweet home for me. Virginia family lives there and I love visiting, but the other places are mostly just traveling through to get to somewhere else. I love the mountains in Kentucky and Tennessee.

If you find travel to be stressful then I would recommend taking a cruise. No cooking or cleaning for a whole week while you get tan and drunk. What’s not to love? Carnival Cruise has a million fun things to offer

The year is 2028, a certain president's term is coming to an end, in a desperate ploy to be the last president to ever hold office; he fires a gas into the atmosphere that turns 98% of the population into undead creatures. By some strange strain of luck; you were indoors when it happened, with the windows closed, responding to your RPs, and therefore; did not succumb to the effect. Because this is the real world, the zombies will succumb to rot, decay, weather, or starvation within a matter of months. There are enough resources for you and your RP partners to live in a post-scarcity utopia for the rest of your days, able to reply at will without the stresses and tribulations of work, bills, obligations, unpleasant social interactions, and the likes. This is the best vacation; it's a forever vacation.

That's a fun question.

I love travelling, go abroad as often as I can, and I usually try to advocate for going to new places whenever I do travel. I want to explore and see new places and tick off more countries from my bucket list. So part of my answer might be that the best vacation is "somewhere new"...

However, having had a lot of very nice holidays in different places, I think that the other possible answer is: Italy. Italy is basically made to be a holiday destination. The cities are ancient and gorgeous. The countryside varies from vineyards to mountains and lakes. The weather is almost always impeccable (if potentially too hot in the middle of summer). It's also not eye-wateringly expensive to get to and prices there tend to be cheaper than many other places too. Plus, it's really fucking hard to beat getting a plate of a delicious pasta every night and then a 9 euro caraffe of the cheapest house red wine (which will be like 500ml as well) which is still like some of the best wine you can get.

So, yeah, while in my heart the answer is "somewhere new" I think that if you wanted to have a holiday and be absolutely guaranteed a good time, Italy is the way to do it.
