He didn't really belong here. A foreign man in a foreign place, wanting to better his life as best he could. Ludwig lived in a small town surrounded and protected by deep and thick woods and served as part of the paltry guard force it had. It wasn't much - in fact is was downright boring - but it was honest work. And it kept him close to her. Aileen was a kind young woman who brought food for all the guard, making sure they were always comfortable and content at their post. And, God, did she love him. She brought him extra meat and sometimes beer to keep his spirits up. She made sure he was never wanting for anything.

He would do anything for her.
"Ludwig!" Aileen was making her rounds, as she did every day, "How are you? It's starting to het cold, are you keeping warm?" She smiled as she stopped beside him.

Be a lot warmer with you here all the time. โ€œYes, I am, thank you.โ€ He said with a smile, offsetting his thick accent, and firm tone.

She hummed happily, her cheeks always flushing when he spoke - though he never really knew why - "Well, I brought you some spirits to help warm your blood just in case." She told him.

"You and I." She replied, "We don't have anyone...my parents passed years ago and my brother not long before you arrived. So I feel sort of...close to you, in a way.." She blushed and laughed, "I hope that's not strange.."

She smiled more, "Oh, good, I'm glad for that. Anyway, I probably shouldn't keep you. Very busy work standing around and looking mean." She said, setting the basket down beside him.

He smiled and thanked her, and waited until his replacement showed up to pick up the basket. He didnโ€™t care to drink much, unless he do something he probably shouldnโ€™t.

Like stumble to Aileen's house, which wasn't far from his own. The gifts she left him were always welcome; small bottles of ale, fresh bread and cooked meat. She always took such good care of him.

He took the basket home, making a noise as he sat and began to eat. This was bad. She was so close. And beautiful beyond anything or anyone he had ever seen.

How long had he been sitting there, thinking about her? He was jarred from his thoughts when panicked banging hit against his door.
"Ludwig...!! Ludwig, please, let me in...!!" It was Aileen, her voice shaking with fear.

She rushed into his arms, clinging to him for dear life.
"It's Jonathan," another of the guard, "I was coming home from prayer and he offered to walk home with me. I-I didn't think anything of it, but when we arrived, h-he..." She stopped and held onto him tighter, "he tried to kiss me...I stopped him, told him I was flattered but he was only a friend, and he became angry...! He tried to hit me...!"
"Ludwig!" Jonathan made his way over quickly, "thank goodness, she's safe. I heard her running like the Devil was chasing her and was worried!"

"She's the one trying to worm through our ranks. Trying to bed any man she can get her hands on." He stated. Aileen gripped the back of Ludwig's shirt.
"That's not true, I just show you all kindness, like you deserve...!"

He grabbed the man by the collar and rammed his forehead into his nose, grunting as he sent the man to the ground. โ€œThe captain will hear of this.โ€

Jonathan wailed loudly, holding his broken and bleeding nose as he laid on the ground.
"What the hell is going on...?!" Jack and Collin came rushing over, eyes wide.
