To understand the beautiful world known as Alteria one must go back before the mountains stood tall and the rivers ran glistening through the plains. Before Alteria became the fourth plane the three surrounding it had already existed for eons waging war through the space between for dominance over one another. Those planes served as the home of the divinities, demons, and Fae under the silent observation of two primordial powers know by different manicures in each faction. The divinities simply called them Mother and Father, the Demons bestowed them the title of Primortials, and the Fae chose to name them aptly Life and Death. Whatever their title these two beings were of untold power and understanding but rarely if ever got involved with the dealings of the other immortal creatures until one century their war became nearly all consuming. When the war the factions waged became so fierce it threatened to cause a complete collapse of their homes the primortials raised a hand to put an end to their squabbles once and for all, choosing to fill the void with a fourth plane removing the other three's connections to one another.
Upon its creation the primortials named this new plane Alteria Fortillia, meaning mortal barrier in the immortal tongue which the others shortened to simply Alteria. Besides harboring a vast world of life and unpredictable elemental power this world acted as a wall the immortals could not physically enter therefore preventing them from attacking each other while it remained intact. This angered the three factions greatly but none dared raise a hand to the almighty ones and hence Alteria was left to thrive with peace and life for a time. During this period the primortial God and Goddess began to recklessly use their power to create life and for the first time amongst all planes unlife was given form by primortial death. The new lands quickly flooded with a plethora of creatures and powers, one stood above the rest however. When the primortials completed their tampering and withdrew from the new world a creature self manifested from their leftover power, Dragons, Alteria's very own guardians of elemental and arcane might.
A century came and went with the immortals looking on at the mortals developing within Alteria and the Fae were the first to harbor a respect for the new short lived beings, though an envy for some of the magics being developed. The Demons wished nothing more than to find a way to enter the realm to filter it many great new powers and resources but we're left unable to physically enter. The Divinities saw an opportunity to grow in not physical power but in influence, perhaps even a whole new army to fight the Demons with in the future. Still none made a move as each faction feared the primortials would reprimand any who tampered with the divide they had constructed to prevent the planes from falling back into endless conflict. That was until the god of chaos Mallik chose to take the matter into his own hands and possess a human farmer in a rural town, using this imperfect and powerless form he created a system of faith to his own accords convincing the residence to build a great monument in his true visage and worship him as their god. As could be expected the other divinities quickly followed suit and before the Demons or Fae had a chance mortality had been zealotized to hate the horned devils that may respond in kind. The almighty ones had put an end to the planeier war but a new one had begun, a war for the soul of Alteria and it's people's.
No more than a couple decades after the divinities had firmly placed themselves as God's and Goddesses to the assumed weaker and pathetic mortals did they begin to form large belief structures, learn to channel the intangible will of their new benevolent deities did Alteria begin to fall into utter chaos. Man and elf grew separated, the greater undead that had once lived beside them were hunted like animals and the worse had yet to come. The divinities knew the Demons must be planning something, and to be sure their "armies" could be ready to fight them off they needed to removed the mortal planes natural antibodies... the dragons had to be eliminated for they didn't only pose a threat to the men and women being manipulated. Those giant monsters could potentially fight and kill the divinities and their angels alike.
While the divinities played their angle on mortality the Demons had begun making their own moves, using ritual deals creating bound followers allowing them to influence magical ability. Unlike the divinities however the Demons planned to get some of their own to Alteria in true form, which they finally accomplished using mortals and sacrificial magic, the primortial's barriers stopped those of true power from crossing over. Only lesser devils could pass through like succubus and imps in small number, collecting human souls for some unknown but obviously nefarious purposes. All the while both they and the divinities had caused all of mortality to fall deep into utter turmoil with no end in sight.
This went on for a long time until Alteria's once beautiful and long held peace was nothing but a distant nearly forgotten memory to mortal kind. Few of the eldest Vampire and elves could recant how the world once was before the immortals had turned the land into a distrusting, dark, and unpredictable mess with no sign the primortials would step in to save them at all.
Still a lot to do, need to check Grammer and wording, but figured I'd get some feedback on the world concept as a whole.
