Sometimes dark clouds can hold more than rain. Sometimes being overlooked is a kindness. Sometimes being forgotten... is a blessing. Is doing good by your fellow man really enough? Should a person not remember that the world is not his alone to do with as he please? When someone enters this life, should they not strive to remove some of the pain that selfish men unleash? And what about beings that are not man? Should respect no be shown to them as well? Life is a gift to be shared with everyone, not hoarded by a few.

Walking down the rain drenched street of the city, Mathew pondered the lesson plan his Ethics teacher had taught this morning. Of course, it had been sunny then, without a hint of cloud in the sky. Now it rained hard enough to soak anyone wearing a coat or using an umbrella. Which he of course had neither. Despite being waterlogged, Mathew liked the rain. It felt cleansing. And right now, his mind was focused on some else.

"What does it mean...to be good?" His teacher had asked the class. The obvious answer was to do no evil. Several classmates had shouted the answer at once. To which the teacher replied: "And how do you define what is evil? Killing is wrong, yet we must in order to eat. That is the paradox of life. Does being good then mean something more...or is it just an idea that changes as time goes on?" Ideas like this made his head spin just trying to understand it, let alone answer the question.

He sneezed loudly, then wiped his nose. Fearful that he would catch a cold if he stayed out in this weather too much longer, he picked up his pace to get home. Looking about, he saw large refuge bags propped up against the side of one of the buildings. He remembered hearing in the news about a raid in the building. Some insane genius that no one had heard of was arrested. The charges ranged from reckless endangerment to unlawful use of equipment to murder. It seamed that every few days, a new juicy fact was revealed. "People always want another story." He muttered under his breath, taking a moment to stop and look at the garbage that stood waiting to be cleared away.

Along with the charges that had been given to him, there were also protests to halt experiments on animals. This insane genius was known for having them as test subjects, ranging from mice to cats. His latest experiment involved three cats, though there wasn't any known information about what he was looking to accomplish. A week or so into the experiment, the building had been raided and he was taken away. Amidst the chaos, the three kittens had run off, but didn't go very far from the building. Since they had fled, they hadn't had much food to eat or shelter...

A small sound managed to break through the pouring rain. At first it was barely audible, though it was joined by another, and another. It sounded a lot like...meowing? The sounds came from the small alley that the garbage had been piled up in. If he listened carefully, he could hear the sounds even louder now. It definitely sounded like kittens. Amidst the bags and other garbage set to be thrown out, there was a rather small box facing up, drenched from the downpour. The label on it was of a popular storage company, but that was irrelavant. Small scratching sounds and mews came from the box, those sounds belonging to the three kittens inside. While it seemed they were just random strays, these were actually the same kittens from the contreversial experiment. The bigger two had black fur and light gray fur respectively, with the youngest having a mix of beige and brown. They had heard that someone was nearby, and they wanted so badly to be out of the rain.

The sound of mewing shook Mathew from his half slumber. Curious, he followed the small sound to its origin. Stepping around the piles of discarded junk, he closed in on the three small life forms in the box. Crouching down, he looked at them after pushing his wet hair away from his eyes.

"You little guys lost?" He said out loud, not expecting them to answer him back. "You look even worst then me right now. Guess were both soaked to the bone. Bet your hungry too." He added as he carefully pick up the wet cardboard box, trying to keep it from falling apart in his arms

"You guys might be strays, but no one should be without a home in this weather. I'll get you fixed up and then you can go your own way if you want after words."

Their cries had managed to catch the attention of someone nearby. As soon as they saw his face they began to try and climb the box towards him. They really looked like they were in bad shape, fur soaked from the rain and it was clear they needed food. In response to his queston, they let out little mews, as if they did understand what he was saying to them. As he carried them away, they still tried to get at him, though with the box moving arond, they simply lay at the bottom, curling up with one another to try and keep warm.
