On occasion. For groups, definitely. But sometimes when I'm bored and got no replies, I'll read a thread or two, if it's by a partner or writer I know or more rarely, the title jumps out at me. Some people got some witty titles, I'll tell ya.
occasionally, yes, but i wouldn't say to the point where i'm invested in their story. mostly i just skim through posts. and only if it's caught my interest, so mostly dark roleplays with dark themes. but i definitely try to read the roleplays of potential partners, if only to get a feel of their writing style and quality.
It happens, sure! If I end up reading a thread it's almost always to check whether or not one of the participants would be a good fit partner-wise. Then there are those rare occasions where the title just pulls me in, or I recognize one of the players as an amazing storyteller and I can't resist clicking, if only to see what they're up to this time. There really are some great writers on here that I will never personally write with for one reason or another, but I love their style and reading their posts is always a good time.
If I know at least one of the writers or both... I ended up in a club where we apparently all write with mostly the same people ( @reverie. apparently we need to do a story together and close the loop)... I'll occasionally skim just to see what they're up to . Aside from that, I really only look if I'm checking out content from a potential partner.
The answer is: Sometimes (If I don't have any new posts from my own roleplays to reply to)
I would say I read the RPs with two and a half reasons:
As @Pretty.Poison mentioned – if I know one or two writers, it can be interesting to check what's going on. Though, I'm a bit apprehensive about it sometimes, I'm afraid to pick up ideas, and then duplicate them accidentally. So I usually try to read them with some delay.
Another one is to improve own skills. It's not very efficient to try and exchange critique with current RP partners, we are too close to the work. So reading other "successful" stuff seems like the best tactic. The 2.5 reason, is I sometimes read or skim through longer posts, to see if I can understand what makes a longer post work. (Usually, it's disregard for canon by the way)
I will read (sometimes) and follow authors whose works interest me. I don't really follow threads specifically as I usually am not invested enough in the writing, but it can be interesting to see what others are writing and how they're writing it. Also, I like checking out threads that have good aesthetics.
Only if I want to get a feel of what kind of writer I am possibly going to brainstorm a roleplay with and they have public threads available, and even those cases I will probably just read one post, skim through a few more and that's that. I can't really get invested in roleplaying works I am not involved in no matter how great the two (or more people) writing it are at writing.
