The coliseum was on the rebound after a stretch of particularly unsatisfying matches where the heroines unfortunately managed to remain unspoiled, or were only mildly spoiled. It had been an appalling period of time where rape and violation were not being shown as they should have but such a time seemed to be over now. All was not perfect, however, as at least one heroine retained a winning streak that was both making her cocky and making the crowd angry. It was one thing to throw a heroine a bone now and again, a victory to keep her strung along rather than wanting to return home, or to build up a heroine in order to make the crowd ravenous for her defilement but this was not the case; at least not intentionally anyway.
Katherine 'Kat' O'Brian was an atypical combatant who favored might over magic and punished opponents for failing to strike her. He ability to kill was impressive but not what this coliseum was designed to debut and thus another match had been scheduled and another chance to break her winning streak was about to begin. While the management was now actively trying to provide unfair fights for the girl there was never an exact science for this and the encounters couldn't be too overwhelming or they would be almost as boring for the fans.
A beam of bright light transported Kat into the arena, a familiar experience by this point and one that she had been expecting. Each win had earned her wealth and reward of nearly whatever kind she desired, though only in amounts based on how close the matches had come. The easier her wins the less she earned and this kept her both hungry for more battles and, perhaps, was subtly pushing her towards wanting harder matches at the same time. From high in the arena she was announced by the robed tentacle monster Phoh'uth who always displayed the best showmanship he possibly could. "You've seen her win battle after battle with her superior evasion. Will this be the first time that she finally falls? Or can she keep her streak going?" His words were somewhat hard to interpret at times due to how they almost slurred together. His tone was always wet and gurgling, syllables all but slapping from his mouth like a wet rag onto a counter top... or a slimy tentacle against a heroine's face. Nevertheless his meaning always somehow remained just clear enough to come across and another large beam of light erupted in a tall column to deliver Kat's opponents for today.
At first the showing was disappointing as a shuffling group of men and women meandered forward from the teleportation magic a bit like zombies. They clearly were not undead but they were clad in nothing but tattered rags and their eyes were glazed over and unfocused. The crowd fell silent in momentary confusion before the light of the magic faded entirely and revealed the extravagantly robed figure with a bluish-purple head of bulbous design; shaped in a manner not unlike a squid or other cephalopod. "A Mind-Flayer Thrallherder folks!" Cheers erupted at the rare showing and, despite being relatively unknown in many planes of existence, the ilithid were fairly well-known here for their psychic and utterly alien powers. "Shield your minds from his awesome powers or you too might find yourself shuffling about like one of his many thralls! Now, let's find out if Kat can lay low this foe!"
Kat could count ten 'thralls', the ragged humans under the command of this creature, as well as the thrallherder himself. Despite the regal robes the four long tentacles that wriggled from his face were unnerving to be certain though, as the gong sounded to being the match, he at least appeared uninterested in moving closer for the time being. In fact, it seemed like the thralls themselves were content to just stand in place. This unnatural swaying of trying to keep their balance did draw eyes to the fact that each of them appeared to be holding a dark black container of some kind. The object was entirely unnatural in appearance, made of what appeared to be chitin and thus quite bug-like. Kat could tell it held something within it but exactly what that was remained a mystery.
The ilithid, on the other hand, slowly stepped backward to create a bit more space between his group and Kat. While he did so his gaze seared into her from his oddly-shaped eyes but... nothing seemed to happen? And then she'd feel invisible forces pressing down around her and seeking to wrap themselves around her arms, trying to lift her upward to hamper her ability to move. She needed her body to fight her foes whereas this creature was very much the opposite; relying on the awesome powers of his mind to shape reality around him to a limited extent.
