How exactly does the site determine if someone has tracking enabled?

And where exactly is the toggle for turning tracking on / off?

I've seen just about every version of members having the feature enabled and disabled (shows them online, with tracking, or never shows their online status, but has tracking enabled), but haven't been able to find an easy toggle button to understand whether or not my own tracking is turned off or on? According to this old thread it was under Privacy>Allow Users to... But my profile doesn't seem to have a toggle for enabling or disabling tracking?

Just looking for clarification and realize I'm probably missing something very simple.

One other Q, for "Last Online" if i'm toggling my ability to show online or offline, will i have that message only when I allow the site showing my status, or is there a certain amount of days it waits and then just no longer shows "Last Online" ?

Thanks Solo, good to know I'm not going insane as I couldn't find the en masse button. The only place I see anything about tracking is going into the inbox, highlighting a conversation, and using the menu on the bottom to enable/disable the tracking. But that would make sense if the global feature was disabled, (because I swear it existed at one point, there's even a SS of it in one of the other help threads) it's just so odd that everyone's ability to do that en masse is like frozen in time from when that was removed. It seems like all my partners got frozen in different stages so there was no consistency, and I was highly doubting that people were taking the time to go through everyone of their threads to enable/disable them.

Okay, gotcha, so when I disable "Show Online Status" my profile will no longer show the last time I was online? That was the gist I was going for, as I tend to toggle it a lot, but get worried if I don't turn it on after a few days, thinking my profile was telling people I hadn't been online in days when it really just means I haven't set myself to online in awhile. I just use it as a gauge as to how busy I am, online = readily available, offline = probably still around, just busy getting posts done or not in the mood to write, etc.

If someone doesn't have tracking turned on, the last read status will say "unknown". I may be mistaken about this, but I think this can only be done on a per-conversation basis; I looked around but couldn't find the setting to do it en masse, so I may just be unable to find it. It also may have been a feature that was disabled, and that the site only allows per-conversation tracking now.

It's supposed to be in your privacy preferences but it broke at some point. Unfortunately it isn't very apparent what broke. It isn't generating any errors and claims it should be presenting the option, it just isn't there.
