Station M-11 was poised at the edge of a black hole, a gaping wound in reality. It hung in space, flaoting silently. It spun at its cnetral axis, creating an artificail gravity, and used energy which escaped the maw's center for its own power. She was on a transport, making her way to this despolate outpost. She had volunteered to be sent here, for reasons of her own. When her transport docked she was met by the pilot and shown where the airlock was. Opening it, she finds herself in a large cargo area. Several older looking robots move about, maing room for new cargo. There is one human.
He is a man of average height and build. He has a little grey in his hair, but otherwise he seems youthful and attractive. He is wearing a jumpsuit, blue in color, and a white lab coat over top of it. He thrusts out his hand and introduces himself and Grant, the station manager and chief of operations. His hand is firm, but not overbearing. He showes her around the vessel.
He showes her living quarters, pointing out the one she will be useing. It is spatious, larger than many appartments on Earth. It has a full sized bathroom and an entertainment center. He leads her on, showing her around the dining area. He makes sure to tell her that meals are served only at 7, 1, and 8 o'clock. The next meal is in two hours.
He takes her to the various labs. Only one is inhabited, by two lovely female scientists. Grant introduces Pheobe, an asian looking lady and Carla, who is vaguely latina. They are both very pleasant and do not seem at all catty. They show her some of their work and offer to help her with anything she needs including getting settled. She gets the vague impression that each of the women is checking her out, descreetly, but its there.
He shows her the large recreational area, it seems complete with every ammenity. He takes her around through an additional cargo hold to an area of the ship that seems older. He opens a door and shows her the escape pod. It can seat eight, so more than enough room for the five of them. He explains that once it is sealed it cannot be reopened and shows her how to seal it and which buttons to push to be jetisoned.
Finally he takes her to the maintence area and introduces Barney. Barney is an enormous black man, who seems to be built like a linebacker. His hand seems large enough to swallow her whole head if he wanted to. He is personable, though, and not mean or rough at all. He even wipes off some greese before shaking hands.
When the tour is complete Grant returnes her to her cabin. Her luggage has been delivered by robot and he remindes her that she has one hour before the meal is served. It seems that meals are a big deal onboard vessel, its a time when everyone gets together and socializes. He leaves her to get settled in.
