Emily glanced at the time on her Blackberry. She felt a little strange waiting with all the other military families: each returning soldier had a whole group of people waiting to welcome him home. Emily was the only one of her family who could make it all the way to the airport. She stood apart from the other families, playing with her Blackberry. The plane was late, but apparently it would be in shortly.
He'd been gone two years. Emily had been a gawky sixteen-year-old then. She'd grown into a proper woman since then, with full, soft curves reminiscent of pinup models. Tonight she wore jeans and a thin cream-coloured sweater that hugged those curves, along with red kitten heels that gave her a few extra inches to her 5'7". She wore her thick, red-gold hair back in a plain ponytail and little makeup. She was just picking up her brother from the airport, after all. Because their parents were busy tonight, and her brother would likely be jetlagged, they wouldn't be doing anything special until at least the next day. Tonight would be a night of pizza from her brother's favourite place and beer at home.
Emily snapped to attention when she heard boots in the hallway. Her green eyes eagerly scanned the returning soldiers for her brother, anticipation building in her chest as each man and woman returning home found the waiting families.
