Mikhail, you son of a...

He'd been told of the man's...issues, had been told of how the last couple of thieves who had worked for him had ended up in a ditch with their throats cut. But, hell, he didn't listen. He'd gone ahead and taken the offer...and here was, paying the damn price. Why was he such an idiot?

Leon pushed through the bushes, his hawk-like eyes peering through the foliage. He didn't know if the men were still following him, and honestly he didn't want to go back and check. They'd nearly gotten him already, and chances were that they'd continue to give chase until they managed to grab the artifact. The young thief felt like a little mouse, being followed by a ravenous beast. He'd been chased before, by guards and the like, but this was different. Unlike them, Mikhail's men wouldn't stop giving chase until they got the artifact back. The fact that they wouldn't be bound by rules or morals was the scariest bit. Who knew what that psycho would do...?

Slowly, he grinded to a halt...a hand upon his heart as he tried to catch his breath. He had to have been near the heart of the forest now, from all that running. Kneeling, he placed the leather sack he'd been carrying on the ground, and quickly opened it up, taking a look inside. Within the sack, what appeared to be an over sized pearl lay in the middle. Its exterior was a glossy white, and even without the sun's rays it seemed to almost glow. It was a beautiful piece of jewelry, that was to be certain...and it was the reason why he had been chased out into the middle of the forest. He had half a mind just to toss it into a bush, but at the same time...he needed to a bargaining chip, in case Mikhail got to him.

With a sigh, he wrapped the bag back up and quickly tossed it over his shoulder. Standing up straight, Leon took a step forward, ready to start running again...only for his foot to go plummeting through the ground.

It took him a second to realize that there had been a hole there, and when the realization finally hit the young man he was already laying on his back, staring up at the spot where he had just fallen through. "Ugh...damn," His entire body ached, and his left leg felt surprisingly numb. What the hell had just happened...?

Still on his back, he turned his head to the side, his sharp green eyes scanning the area. He'd stumbled into a cave...that much was obvious...but hell, it was so dark, he couldn't see a thing. Beside him, he could see the sack, it too having fallen into the cavern. But, it was empty...the artifact had stumbled out.

"Crap,"
