I imagine five young people - three young men and two women - who meet each Friday afternoon to play Dungeons and Dragons together. The dungeon master (your character) is a fat and ugly young man. Mine is a young Asian woman. My character is in a happy and supportive relationship with one of the young men who attend the game night every week. Our relationship (the relationship of our two characters) is complicated. We both share a love of books and the imaginative life, but there is a mutual antipathy as well.

I imagine your character greatly enjoys his role as dungeon master. It is his opportunity to stand out - to make things happen the way he wishes them to be. In the game he matters. Game night is something he looks forward to every week. For the others, it is becoming a chore and it's quite possible the game night will be wound up sometime in the future.

Once the game begins, the focus of our roleplay begins what happens in the game itself. Exploring a dungeon for instance. The characters in the Dungeons and Dragons campaign fall into traps and are defeated time and again. Until the party is imprisoned by (for example) an orc leader or some other monster. Horrible things happen there. It is a dark place. One where nothing turns out the way hoped for.

So the story we write - the actual story that you and me write - is at two levels. At one level the scene is about five young people meeting up every week to play together. And at another the scene is about a fantasy world.

Awful things happen both in both worlds. Of course, the kind of things that happens in the one, doesn't happen in the other. There are no orcs in the real world, for instance. But if you were to stand apart and watch carefully, you might see how the one influences the other, and vice versa.

It's a rather convoluted setting, I agree. Though it might appeal to some. I'm more than happy to discuss how we proceed. None of it is set in stone.
