Batgirl Begins (dbspock/WendyTheRed)

Chloe glanced over at Babs with a bit of skepticism when she claimed she'd be doing the training on systems she didn't even have passwords for, but she knew her friend well enoiugh not to doubt it entirely, so she made no further comment on it.

John glanced over at Babs and shrugged when she questioned the blood test. Truthfully he wasn't sure himself, he figured this was part of Sara's training to see hwo well he'd paid attention during Dr. Snow's classes, but he didn't want Babs to report his ignorance back to Sara. "Well, your blood type for one, in case you need a transfusion." John stated with the confidence that came from personal experience. "And if you have an abnormally high white blood count, it could indicate another isssue we have to determine. And its a good baramoter of overall health."

John didn't seem to care what Babs middle name was, and he didn't respond when the two began to discuss it. "I guess." Chloe admitted, She'd never told Babs her middle name either, she realized. it just hadn't come up. "But if your dad ghets mad at you, he'll just get a disapointed look on his face...or he might threaten to throw you in jail. I don't think he'd use your middle name." Chloe admitted, and she also seemed to speak from personal experience.

John heard Babs question about where to start, but he turned to look at Chloe questionably. Chloe was distracted by playing with the new advanced computer system, but she soon realized the pair had gone silent and they were waiting for her. "Oh..." She said as she looked at Babs form agaiun. "Uh...height...weight...blood pressure...pulse rate..." Chloe read off, and John silently gestured towards the side. As advanced as the rest of the equipment was, there was only one way to really get someones height and weight, and that was with a tape measure and scale, and babs would see one such unit in the area John indicated.

She nodded at John's answer about the blood tests. She wasn't a doctor but she knew about things like white blood cell counts being an indicator of health issues from TV if nothing else. She did raise an eyebrow when he mentioned a blood transfusion but chose not to comment on that. She glanced at Chloe as the discussion about middle names carried on and she smirked. "I'm probably immune from jail threats from him, unless you consider grounding to be jail. Disappointed looks though? Yes. I can see that." She noticed the look on Chloe's face and nearly asked her when she'd gotten in trouble with her dad but decided that now was not the time or place.

She glanced to where John indicated and saw the scale and the metal height measuring device that all doctor's offices seemed to have. She smirked and made her way over there. "You have all this other information on me but not my height and weight?" She stepped onto the scale, flushing slightly. "I have more muscle than I probably look like" she said, a bit embarrassed by her weight even if it was legitimately because of muscle mass. She certainly couldn't be called overweight by anyone.

"I wouldn't count on it." Chloe replied quietly. "I don't think the word 'immune' is in your dads vocabulary." She did glance aroudn the room though, and suspected grounding would be the least of Babs problems if her dad ever foudn out what she was doing...and Chloe probably WOUDL go to jail for aiding her. But it was a rsik Chloe was very willign to take. This was the most exciting thing she'd ever done.

John heard Bab's question, but he didn't reply, but simpoly looked over at Chloe. The silence dragged on for a minute, until Chloe realized SHE was supposed to answer that. "Oh...uh..." Chloe had no idea what she was supposed to say, and began to rapidly click through files on the computer until she found some sort of answer. "Well, your physical was a couple years ago, so that's probably out of date." Chloe theorized, and she glanced at John who seemed to be waiting for more of an answer, then looked at the file again. "Oh...and yoru drivers license...well, they just take your word for it, so that's not reliable. And how often do you really record your heighgt and weight outside of the doctor's office?" Chloe guessed, and while John didn't nod in approval, he at least turned his attention away from Chloe, who let out a small sigh of releif. She wasn't sure what she'd expected when she'd asked to tag along, but this wasn't it.

Sara was right...again. John mused as Babs blushed as she stepped up on the scale, clearly a bit embarrassed. Asking a woman for her weight was a sensitive subject, it seemed, even after you saw them naked. But Babs didn't refuse the test, simply tried to make excuses for the number. "Height, six foot even." John announced to the room, and Chloe dutifully typed it in. "Weight, 160." That WAS a bit over her ideal weight, at least according to the chart John had seen, so that explained a bit of her embarrassment, but as he ran his eyes over her frame, well, she certainly didn't look fat by any stretch of the imagination. Still, John wanted to be thouragh. Babs was his first patient, so to speak, and he didn't want Sara thinking he'd cut corners.

"Let's take some measurements." John declared after a moment, then went to one of the cabinets and removed a cloth tape measure. "Put your arms out to the side." He instructed her, and if she complied, he'd wrap the tape measure aroudn her waist, then her stomach, and call out the measurements to Chloe.

Barbara smiled, looking thoughtful as she considered a few things. "Probably not. But I'm willing to bet if it came down to it he'd decide that if it wasn't shoved in his face then he wouldn't look too hard into it. Regardless, I don't want to put him in that position." She listened as Chloe theorized about the height and weight and why it wasn't in her file. She, of course, wondered why they needed it anyway but was going along for now, perhaps foolishly.

She raised her eyebrows when John read off her height. She'd thought she was 5'11" and was a bit happy she was even a tiny bit taller. She actually enjoyed her height even if it seriously limited her dating prospects since most boys her age were intimidated by it. She fidgeted when her weight was read off and glanced back and forth between Chloe and John. She muttered under her breath. "Muscle weighs more than fat..."

She watched as he walked to the cabinet and came back with the tap measure. She was still flushed but she dutifully held her arms out to the side. As she stood there and let him measure her, it suddenly occured to her that Chloe would now know beyond any doubt that her natural hair color was indeed red. She tried hard not to think about that and glanced at the doorway, glad it was only the three of them even if the place did sometimes feel like it was intended as a base for a small group.

"And just what would you be betting?" Chloe asked, thinking Babs was doign exactly that, and making Chloe an accomplice. Not that she minded at all, this was the most exciting thing she had ever done, but it wasn't without risks. But like Babs, she had no intention of shoving it in the captain's face.

"You want me to update your driver's license after yoru growth spurt?" Chloe teased when she noticed the discrepency between what Babs driver's license said and the number John read off. She doubted John had gotten it wrong, and figured Babs just hadn't checked in a while. But what she foudn most interesting was that she actually DID have access to the Gotham City DMV database, and coudl easily get a license for Babs...or anyone else, for that matter, using their real name or not. She didn't hear Babs excuse about ehr weight, and if John heard, he didn't repeat it for Chloe. There was no place for a disclaimer in the form.

John started with the easy stuff, and measured the length and circumfence of Babs arms. It got a bit more awkward when he knelt down and did she same with her legs, putting the fact her carpet matched her drapes at his eye level, and quite close to his hands as he measured the length of her legs. He then almost hugged her as he wrapped the tape around her stomach, then her neck, calling out the numbers to Chloe who almost asked him why before she found there was yet another form to fill out, and her eyes widened when she saw some of the custom settings. "So...what color do you want your uniform?" She asked excitedly.

John, for his part, didn't go into the reasons why they needed Babs measurements. he figured she was smart enought o figure it out, and he was unaware Babs already had far more precise measurments than he could ever obtain already on file. But he carried out hsi duties as Sara had assigned...Babs wasn't the only one getting tested. He measured her neck, then did the one thing he'd been avoiding...he wrapped the tape around Babs upper chest, making sure the tape measure went over her nipples. There was no way to avoid the fact he'd seen Babs naked breasts now as he called out the final number, then quickly placed the tape measure back in the cabinet, hoping the females didn't notice how red hsi face was.

Barbara smirked. "Well, sounds like I'd be betting my freedom. Not really a bet with an upside to you winning, you know? If you're right, things go badly for both of us. So let's just make sure we never have to find out which of us is right." She was a little surprised when Chloe offered to update her driver's license. What kind of system was she logged in to? Her heart rate sped up at the thought and she briefly even forgot about how John was measuring her so intimately. "Ummm..sure? I mean, it can't hurt right?"

Her attention was pulled back to John though when he knelt to measure her legs and she realized he was practically at eye level with her lady parts. She glanced down, pretty sure he was focused on the job at hand but also knowing he was a guy. Sure, Sam was who he was interested in it seemed but still, he was only human right? She blinked when she heard Chloe's question. Uniform? She looked at her for a moment. "Something dark. Dark purple maybe. Dark blue. Black. For...night use." She trailed off then as John began to measure her chest and the flush returned, even deeper, possibly because the tape was over her nipples which only made things more intimate.

She definitely noticed how red his face was but considering her face, neck and cleavage were all red she decided not to comment. She probably wouldn't have anyway but she definitely wasn't going to right now. She glanced briefly at Chloe and asked the question that she'd been dying to know. "So, this uniform setting, anything else that can be adjusted besides color?"

"True enough." Chloe agreed when Babs verbally reached the same conclusion the blonde had had in her head. She smiled widely when Babs gave her permission to update her driver's license...and to mess with the computer set up some more. "Cool." She said softly as she began tapping keys. As her neighbor, Chloe didn't even need to use the system to verify her address, and she quickly entered the rest of Babs information as well. "So...you want to carry your picture over, or take a new one?" Chloe asked as she neared the end of the process.

"Dark...right..." Chloe said softly as she selected those options for the suit. She couldn't stop smiling as Babs asked her about the program she was experimenting with. "It woudl eb easier to ask what it CAN'T do..." Chloe responded, almost to herself, then she sat bolt upright. "Holy...is that a holographic interface? I didn't think they were past the theortical stage yet." It was clearly not in the therotitical stage as Chloe managed to bring up a life size hologram of the costume she had on the screen.

"Um..." John began as he turned back from the cabinet. He wasn't sure they should be messing with that, btu then...Sara hadn't told him not to either. And he was curious what Chloe coudl do, which seemed quite impressive. So he didn't say anything to stop her as he approached Babs with some sensors in hsi hands.

She blinked at Chloe's next question. "My picture was only a few months ago. I doubt my looks have changed that much." She was only sixteen after all and had gotten it for her learner's permit. She listened as Chloe muttered to herself, distracted from John's measuring by what she was doing. Of course she was drawn to the computer system. She was itching to push Chloe out of the way and take over herself though she had to admit, her friend was doing a surprisingly good job with the system.

Her eyes moved to the holographic uniform and she nibbled her lip, her eyes moving from John to Chloe and back. "This uniform, is this some kind of system to set it up and it'll be created later? You said it can make changes right? Can it add a logo..." She moved her hand to the center of her chest. "Here. In gold. And you know what logo I mean. If he has a problem with it, what's he gonna do? Complain about trademarks?" She was aware John was probably going to object at some point but she also wondered if he'd just roll with it.

Her eyes turned back to John as he approached with the sensors. She eyed them curiously and had to ask. "What are those for? Is this when I start working out or something? And can you tell me why Sara wanted all this?" She thought she might need to clarify as it felt like John often misunderstood what she meant. "I mean that literally. Like...did Sara say you can't tell me? Or is it allowed for you to tell me why she wants all these measurements and apparently has a uniform to be designed for me?"

"Oh, I can fix that." Chloe threatened. The computer had photo editing software, Chloe coudl only imagine what it waqs capable of. But of course she didn't alter the photo on Bab's old license, just uploaded it the Gotham DMV website and added it to Bab's license. "It'll be mailed out today." Chloe promised shse she pressed the submit button.

She wasn't sure what the answer to Babs question was, not for sure, but John figured that wasn't a computer question, and not part of the test, so he answered himself. "Yes...the design gets uploaded and manufactured offsite...after Sara approves." He caustioned her. They were getting a bit ahead of themselves. "And...I don't think you really want to know what he might do if he disaproved. But I think trademarks would be the least of your problems." He didn't bother to pretend he didn't know what or who she was talking about.

He held up a sensor so she coudl examine it. There wasn't much to it...just a sticky pad, a small computer chip, and an antenna. "Yes...these will measure your heart rate and other vital signs as you run on the treadmill." John gestured over to the corner where the treadmill was waiting. He shrugged at her question...he'd thought it was obvious, but apparently not. "The training program...is quite strenuous. And if you graduate to field work, it is almost inevitable you would get hurt. We need to see if you have any physical problems that might impact your training, so we can deal with them now instead of when they become a big problem later. And we need to establish a baseline so we have a healthy template to compare it to when you get hurt. And no...Sara didn't really go into detail about her plans." John admitted. He suspected she had been deliberetly vague since she knew he liked precision, and Sara wanted him to figure this out for himself.

"You weren't supposed to find out about the uniform yet. You aren't ready for field work. But when you are...well, yes. You will need something to wear, and something that'll protect you more than your regular clothes. Hence the uniform." John told Babs.

Barbara wondered briefly what she'd tell her dad about getting her license but figured a version of the truth would work just fine. 'Chloe helped me get it done online'. She knew he'd probably just assume it was stuff he didn't understand and let it go. She nodded when she heard John's answer and smiled when he indirectly acknoweldged that he knew very well who Batman was and that he had a connection to Sara. She bit her lip and decided to venture a cautious response. "I think...you know who...is also testing me. Watching me. He knows what I want. I told him when I woke up to find him standing over my bed. So yeah, Chloe, add the logo please. If Sara disagrees with it, or he does, then it'll never make it onto the uniform and I'll probably get a stern lecture."

She looked at John. "We both know he wouldn't do anything bad to me. He'd just tell me to stop or something. In that gruff way he has." She spoke in her best imitation of Batman's raspy voice. "No. I'm not going to allow it." She shrugged. "It's how he responded when I asked him to train me."

She nodded when he confirmed what the sensors were for. He also confirmed something else that she had suspected. That she might do more than simply training if Sara thought she had the potential. "I thought as much but thank you for confirming it. I don't think I have any big issues, it would have come out during my gymnastics training or my prior martial arts classes but I'm not going to argue either. I get why you want a baseline and to be sure." She was determined to be reasonable in this. She figured she needed to pick her fights anyway, and she half expected pushback on the uniform ideas she had. She suddenly had a thought and looked at Chloe. "Does it allow two uniforms to be made? One with the logo and one without? For more uhhh...covert work?" She looked at John questioningly, hoping he'd approve of the idea.

She looked back at John and decided to take a chance and share something he likely knew anyway. "I may be seeing fieldwork anyway in 2 days time. Hopefully nothing happens but if it does, I'll be there. In the field. In armor even." She smiled slightly at him. "And don't worry, I won't tell Sara I know about the uniform though she's smart and will figure it out anyway." She stood still as he attached the sensors. "And I won't push for fieldwork until I'm ready. I want to prove myself but I'm not dumb either. I don't want to get myself hurt or killed before I'm ready." She looked at him. "I have a mission, a path for my life, and I can be patient." She paused, a slight smirk curling her lips. "Ish. Patient-ish." She knew very well she could also be impulsive at times.

"He watches everything." John confirmed, then shook hsi head a bit. "You know, you can say his name. He's not going to come crashing through the ceiling in response." He told her...but he didn't say the name either. Nor did he react when Babs mentioned her late night visitor. Chloe didn't verbally respond to the request to add the logo, but it quickly appeared on the holograms chest, quickly enough it was clear Chloe had found it in the database and hadn't designed it from memory. John raised an eyebrow when she claimed Batman wouldn't do anything bad. "Or make sure your father found out what you were up to." John pointed out another possibility, then turned away so she wouldn't see his smile at her imitation Batman voice. Chloe didn't bother to hide her giggle.

He nodded when she thanked him for explainign the sensors, and he placed one on each side of her rib cage, and this time he didn't look embarrassed about almost touching her breasts. "If Sara suspected you had major issues, you wouldn't be here." John confirmed as he placed the remining sensors on her back, legs and arms.

Chloe shrugged at Babs question. "Sure...just need to come up with a unique name for each one. Looks liek you can create as many as you want. Holograms, that is." Chloe had no idea how to make a real one, but she brought up a second hologram beside the dark one Babs had requested...except this one was neon green.

John raised an eyebrow in response. "I don't think that's what she meant by 'covert.'" He pointed out dryly, then looked at Babs. "More like a day and a half." John told her, implying it was past midnight despite the fact there were no clocks present, and he hadn't looked at one. "I'm going to be there as well." He confirmed, then raised an eyebrow. "Where are you gettign the armor?" He asked curiously. Sara hadn't mentioned that, though he suspected Sara knew and just didn't think he needed to. "And no one wants that." John told her, the first indication he might actually give a damn about her.

He raised an eyebrow at her claim abotu being patient...ish. She;d already proved that by wating so long on her first night. But he didn't comment on it, but just gestured towards the treadmill, indicating for Babs to get on it. He then looked at Chloe. "Start with program three." He told her. Increase the difficulty every two minutes, and make sure you record the results. I didn't think she wants to do this test more than once." He then pointed to the red button on the console of the treadmill. "When your ready to stop, just press that."

She grinned at John's response. "I know, I've just been sort of dancing around talking about him in various conversations today. She noted how quickly the logo appeared on the hologram and couldn't help her next question from coming out. "I don't suppose there are options for a cowl with pointy ears and a cape in the settings are there?" Her gaze turned from Chloe back to John when he ventured a thought on Batman's potential actions. "Yes. He could tell my dad. Or more likely, find a way to get the information to him that wouldn't lead back to him. But I don't think he would. I mean, if he thought I was a danger to myself or others he might. But...I think he understands my..." She paused, her brow furrowing as she struggled to find the words. "My passion? No. My commitment. My need. I can't stand by and do nothing when there is a chance I can help. I'll take all the training I need so I can do it right. And I am going to follow his lead in other ways than just the logo. I won't be out there with a gun or a sword or something. I'll be bringing criminals to justice. But to protect. Not for vengeance."

She glanced at the neon green one, her eyes widening slightly. "Chloe! I just meant to remove the logo. As for the one with the logo. Name it Batgirl please." She shrugged, she knew she should go with Batwoman maybe. But Batgirl seemed to fit better for some reason. She turned her attention back to John at his comments. "You'll be there? How? As far as I know only four of us will be in the transport vehicle. Me, my dad, Sara and the Agent from Shield." She was touched that he seemed to care, even if it was only a tiny bit and she shot him a quick smile when he said it.

"The armor is from Wayne Enterprises. It's a prototype. It seems when Bruce Wayne signs a work order for you they'll jump to get the armor ready on time. It has LEDs on it that you can use to make some patterns. I had considered using them to try to make a logo but perhaps that won't be needed now. It also seems that I'm not expected to return the armor after the mission. I was thinking of storing it in the same place that I've stored the armored vehicle."

She looked at John for a long moment, almost willing him to see that she knew Bruce Wayne's connection to Batman but she had no illusions he'd let his own knowledge slip if he knew anything. After a moment's thought she considered talking. "You know, speaking of storage areas, eventually, if things go as I hope, I need to find some place like this..." She motioned vaguely around the room. "I mean, maybe Sara or Batman will let me use one of their places but I don't want to assume either..."

She moved to the treadmill when he gestured to it and stepped onto the treads. She was a bit nervous about this test, mostly because she was doing it in the nude and it occurred to her that her breasts would be bouncing everywhere. The thought brought a flush to her cheeks but she steadied herself then reached out and hit the button. She focused on maintaining her pace, doing her best not to get distracted as she began to jog on the treadmill.

"There are...but you'd have to cut your hair for it to work. Good luck explaining that one to your dad." Chloe replied when asked about a cowl for the costume. She then giggled when Babs protested the neon green option Chloe had presented her with. "Spoilsport." Chloe said with a laugh as she erased the neon green option and replaced it with an identical model sans logo. If she had any qualms about the name Babs chose, she didn't name it, and the word 'Batgirl' appeared above the one with the logo.

John listened as Babs explained her reasons she didn't think Batman would blow the whistle on her activities, and while he didn't nod in agreement, he didn't disagree either. Clearly Babs presence at the safehouse was a good sign Batman at least wasn't actively discouraging her from her goal. He hesitated for a moment when she asked about his presence for the delivery, then figured she proabbly needed to know. "I won't be in the vehicle. Sara wanted me on the motorcycle on a parellel route, just in case." He smirked a bit when she mentioned how fast a word order from Mr. Wayne got results. He hadn't experienced it first hand, but it wasn't hard to picture. "One of the many perks of being the owner." He paused once again when she mentioned a storage unit. "Well, there's plenty of room here if you need a bit of space." He offered. Sara had pretty much given him the run of the place, so he figured he had the authority to share if needed.

The treadmill began to move after she pressed the button, but the issue with maintaining ehr pace was that the speed wasn't constant. It jerked into motion so fast Babs would almost have to sprint to keep up, then after a few moments it slowed to a quick jog before speeding up again. Next, it almost jerked to a halt, but before she coudl consider the possibility it had broken, it jerked into motion again. And it didn't remain on a smooth incline, either. The treadmill rose to an almost 45 degree angle at times before it returned to an almost level surface. If John noticed the way her breasts were jiggling, he gave no sign of it as he looked over Chloe's shoulder to make sure the data was being recorded correctly.

Barbara nodded thoughtfully at Chloe's reply, though her eyebrows did rise when she confirmed there were Batman style cowls in the uniform system. It told her all she really needed to know and further confirmed her own theories. "Are there other options? Maybe a mask with the uhhh...bat ears on them? So my hair could hang free?" She smiled when she saw Batgirl appear over the uniform they were working on and glanced briefly at John to see if he reacted at all.

She nodded when John confirmed he'd be in a motorcycle. "Do the others know? I mean, obviously Sara knows. But what about my dad? The Agent? I assume you have our comm frequency so you can listen in at least?" She figured this kind of thing was important to know so she didn't accidentally give something away. She looked surprised when he offered she could store stuff there. "Really? I could store my outfits or armor here? Other tools and stuff too? I don't want to, you know, intrude or whatever. Does that mean you'd give me a key or the codes to get in?"

She was surprised at how the treadmill acted when she started it up. She was glad she'd been focusing instead of letting herself be distracted. She could have fallen or at least stumbled and embarrassed herself. She quickly turned her attention to trying to adjust as smoothly as possible to the various changes though she couldn't help imagining these changes as something like her running across rooftops after a criminal or something. She quickly pushed those thoughts away so she didn't lose focus and became intent enough on doing her best that she even completely forgot she was nude and her breasts were bouncing around as she kept her pace on the treadmill.
