I'm not actually looking for anything completely serious, but something along the lines of tying up our lovely heroine and placing her in a trap(s) with her fate relying on a cliffhanger that may, or may not be resolved.

They tie her up and leave her to be killed in some creative, over-the-top plan and either she manages to keep on escaping, requires saving by her hero or we have the scene "...fade to black".
