Is there a way to turn them off? Really don't like how my >: D turns into > for example

I'm not sure of the answer on if they can be turned off or not but I've found an easy and relatively unnoticeable way to get around this is to bold or italicize one of the characters. For example:

>:D

 

[Freelancer]

There isn't an option to turn off emojis directly, but, there is a slightly cleaner way than just adding formatting to one of the characters of a smiley. You can wrap any smiley in the "plain" tag;

like this [plain]>:D[/plain]

which will then give you a simple >:D smiley with no automatic conversion to emoji!!
