Suzaku was very relieved that the reporters left, but he was even more excited that they were now in their first season of soccer. After months of waiting, the varsity team was finally allowed to rev their gears and get kicking on the field. Track and Field was also in session, and Suzaku was ever so anxious to start their full semester of sports and take a chance at the regional championships again. Last year, they placed second, but this competition was promising. He couldn't miss the chance of impressing Lelouch. His best friend would be out there in the audience, and he as the soccer captain would have to take full responsibility for the loss or win of his darling team. He felt so embarrassed last year. This time, he was going to make Lelouch and the entire school proud. Inspired to train harder and with 2% more effort, Suzaku jogged in place for the first three minutes of their practice, ordering the rest of his teammates to loosen their tense muscles for their workout.
They were fenced in a field, but the grass lawn was large enough to fit a few acres in it. The equestrian team usually used this area for their horses, but it also served as a great track for running laps. Here, the coach was leaning against the white borders, going over their schedule with Suzaku off in the corner while the other members sprinted around the spaced oval in a beeline. Well-disciplined wasn't much of a great word to describe their school's varsity team. Suzaku rearranged his sweats and hooked his index finger into the collar of his soccer uniform, stretching it a bit to allow in air. One hand was propped at his hip- eyes gazing over the clipboard that their instructor held. He was serious for a few seconds, then as Lelouch appeared at the scene, his lips curved into a bright smile. The coach didn't seem surprised. Lelouch seemed to make his visits rather frequent. He understood that they were close friends, but to anyone else, it looked as if they were lovers, instead. How sweet was it for Lelouch to attend every one of Suzaku's soccer events- ... even his practice sessions ?
" You ever going to consider joining ? " the coach laughed, patting the valedictorian and student council president on the shoulder. If Lelouch joined the soccer team, there was no doubt that the entire school would totally support them. And who knew ? Suzaku would even try harder to impress him. " Well, don't distract Suzaku too much. He needs ta' run around a bit. " he nodded, walking off to leave them alone. The coach shook his head and chuckled. Ah, teenagers.
Suzaku promised that he'd return to practice, waving farewell to the coach. He propped his elbows on the top of the fence and leaned in towards Lelouch, tossing his head to swish the chestnut bangs from his eyes. " Did you bring anything to eat ? I'm starving ... " he murmured, rubbing his stomach with a free hand. His fangirls were ever so generous to pack lunches for him, but he wasn't in the mood to eat their food. Even though Lelouch wasn't much of a professional cook, he did like it when he brought him something to snack on. Suzaku was head over heels in love with him, so even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich would have sufficed to satisfy the boy's undying affections for his best friend.
