To the north, the Blight. To the east, the barbarous Iron Kingdoms. The west, the unforgiving sea. Yet despite all this, through the graces of his Imperial Majesty, The Holy Church, and the seven houses, we preserver.

Bless Cassica. Bless the Immortal Emperor.

May he rest in peace.

A GAME OF POLITICAL RUIN

Welcome!

This is my attempt to put together a nation building, political maneuvering game. Think Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon and you're pretty close; it's a game about characters from powerful noble houses attempting to secure power and a place in history as the world goes to shit around them. It's a low, dark fantasy game where you play power-hungry individuals seeking to claim a dying throne. And, of course, there's a fair share of smut--sex goes hand-in-hand with power, after all.

We will play this game to learn how the nation of Cassica is destroyed. It is not a game you really win, it's a ride we enjoy together, a world we build and burn down.

Since I think games with PVP elements often work better if there's some kind of arbitration, we will be using a variant of the very simple TROPHY TTRPG system. You can check out the SRD Trophy System Reference Document.

HOW IT WORKS
- Each player (likely capped at 4-5), will create their own noble house and define its place in the kingdom of Cassica. This is a mostly free-form process, but we'll assign a few skills and abilities to be discussed later.
- In addition to having a House, each player will have a central character. This character can and probably will change over time.
- We'll play out important scenes, zooming in for political maneuvering, then zooming out to take actions on a larger scale.

BASIC LORE
The Holy Empire of Cassica
The Empire is made up of the seven houses, the Immortal Emperor, and the Holy Church. These are the pillars that the nation stands upon, and one of them has just been shattered.

Specifically: The Emperor is dead. Though he has an heir, the boy is both young and inexperienced. Both the Church and the seven houses are well aware of this, and are all maneuvering to gain power and solidify themselves in the ensuing political turmoil.

The Blight
The Blight comes from the north. It infects the tissue, moves through the blood. No amount of wealth of power will keep you safe if it comes to claim you.

The villages and cities to the northland have been decimated. Everything that comes from there we kill. Some say it's only a matter of time until it spreads to the whole world.

The Iron Kingdom
To the east is a warlike nation, a great mass of enemies that ride from the desert to raid and pillage the lands of Cassica. Walls keep them at bay, but they'll only hold for so long. Word of a great conqueror has started to spread, a man who is unifying the arid lands and plans to march upon the civilized world.

The Holy Church
Believers in the purity of the transcendent flesh, the perfection of the body, and responsible for stamping out supernatural wickedness. The Immortal Emperor, who was supposed to be forever and perfect, was their great patron.

Magic, Ritual, and Superstition
There is darkness in the world. Witches, spirits, blood rites, vile curses. They are not common. They are stamped out wherever they are found. As are any beast unnatural, any fae, demon, or worse.

Any that would seek out what remains of such things will surely be brought to ruin.

I would be interested to try this out! What you've outlined looks like it would fit perfectly into the rules set of Trophy. It's also an easy enough system that should help keep the RP going without too much slogging through specifics.

Not sure what stipulations you have for making noble houses, but I imagine a noble house that controls some of the most northern uneffected regions of the kingdom, who keeps threat of the blight at bay with force and the best medicine medieval times has to offer. However with the threat of an army at the kingdoms door, they might think to weaponize the blight against the invading attackers to gain favour, a perfect concoction for future ruin.
