What has been your favorite trope to usein writing and why?

Favourite trope with my writing has been fish out of water, taking a character and throwing them into a new world full of unknowns. Really allows me and my partners to build up some fantasy or scifi environment using the character as a proxy to the world they have fallen into and it's rules.
