Ryan Thomas woke up groggy from his nap and looked around. The house was still and quiet. Strangely quiet. He swung over on the bed and cupped his head in his hands, trying to clear his head. That's right -Mary was gone; that's why it was so quiet. He exhaled, she had gotten a call from her sister asking them to help her move. Ryan had never liked the woman (it was mutual) so he refused to go -this caused a fight with Mary but he didn't care. He stretched and then slid into a pair of jeans that had been laying crumpled on the floor by his bed and, standing up, fastened them.
He slowly walked out to his empty living room and looked around. He'd promised he would pick up while Mary was gone, and fortunately it didn't look like he had that much to do. He walked to the sliding glass door which looked out into the back yard and winced at the thought of mowing the yard. He looked over to the neighbors' yard. The young girl who lived next door didn't seem to be around. She never seemed to really help with it came to yard work, preferring -much to Mary's annoyance- to follow Ryan around and talk to him while he did it. Mary's annoyance, of course, came from the fact they paid the girl to help out -but Ryan pointed out that she was quite helpful on everything else that didn't involve yard-work or lifting, whether picking up or other odds and ends. Ryan thought there was something ..weird.. about Mary's attitude towards the girl. Since he couldn't place it he didn't think about it, however.
Ryan was tall and well built, easily strong enough to do most of the lifting and such around the house, so it was fine. He ran a hand through his medium length straw colored hair and straightened out his tee shirt and walked into the kitchen to grab a coke from the fridge. It was Saturday afternoon -he was sure the neighbor girl would be at the mall with her friends or something -so if he was going to work around the house he'd have to do it by himself.
