It was the heavy rain on the car roof that woke her up from her light nap. Ringing in a car felt strange and mr Hendrickson advised her to rest before they arrived at her new superior. He would be her temporary owner. Only to help her recover… heal… All those beautiful lies. Elise had given up hope of ever getting away from Lord Barron. He had had her for a decade. Maybe longer, maybe shorter. Time was a strange concept when you wouldn’t know if it was day or night. All Elise knew was that Lord Barron was gone and now would another person take his place. She turned her head and looked out.
The rain continued to pour down and Elise felt cold. She had become rather good at ignoring the cold by now and hiding her trembling fingers.

Mr Hendickson looked back in the rear mirror for a second to check on the young fox fae in the backseat.
“You good?” He asked her and as usual was there no answer.
The poor shape they had found the fae in. Locked away in the attic, with no window, cold and barely clothed. She was sleeping when they had burst in, expecting to find a vault or anything like that. Not a slave. Years of mistreatment were hard to ignore when you saw her. To know what this once was, a thriving, music-playing woman was hard to see. Surely that young girl would still be inside of her, but it would need a lot of work for her to come out. Lord Barron was put in jail after laundering money, drugs and two murders. All the assets had been taken care of except the fae. In her case was it not just wash up and get to another owner that wanted a companion. She needed someone special. It was hard for them to find someone that would take her in. It needed to be someone that was used to dealing with trauma. She wasn’t only hitting, but severely more. The doctor couldn’t get much information out of her. She barely whispered a few words to the nurse, but expect that had she been silent. The doctor assured them that her vocal cords are alright. This kind of mute was a result of years after years of abuse.

Mr Hendrickson turned left and drove up to a small farm. The weather was still awful and when Hendrickson turned off the car the front door got open and a man walked out on the front veranda.
“Here we are. Let’s get up. You can run ahead and I will get your bag, alright, Emily?”

Elise wanted to scream at him. It was not her name! The man must have read it wrong at one point and now was it stuck. She looked toward the house. It was completely different from the one she had been taken from. Her cage had not been that fancy, but everything else was… grand. Yes, grand was a good word to describe the house. Too big and too much of everything. Elise went out. The icy cold rain hit her and quickly soaked through her thin summer jacket. She stood still, closing her eyes and looked up at the sky. Hendrickson told her to hurry up and get out of the rain. You will catch a cold… He shouted at her. Elise didn’t care. Instead, she let herself enjoy these few moments of freedom. The rain felt free when you can not feel it upon your chin for ages. She knew that she would have to meet this new owner sooner or later. Sooner would mean less pain. Only a few days between this place and Lord Barron did she wish to get through the night without adding to the pain she already felt. Elise barely looked at the man while Mr Hendrickson talk a lot about her. Those words did she turn out. Instead, she stood still, waiting - listing on the rain.

“All we need to do now is to sign the papers and the deal is official,” Henrickson said even if his friend already knew all that. “A collar would be good as well as we can’t chip her yet. There is packed in her backpack if you want to use that one or perhaps you got one of your own? Anyhow, I need to get going again.” Hendrickson turned toward Elise,
“Alright, take care now Emily. I will be back soon again and see how it goes, okay? Remember we are here to help out.”
