It was the first of December when it first appeared
and by the second it was what everyone feared
the third day of Christmas was upon the Blue Moon
and the fourth day of Christmas was over too soon
For the fifth day it started, and then there were more
the sixth and the seventh, the eighth, says the lore
nine through eleven, and it was no longer bare
with twelve days of Christmas still left to share
By the thirteenth of December, it was going around
twelve, thirteen, fourteen ornaments found
the fifteenth through seventeenth came just the same
eighteen days in and things started to change
Nineteen days, it was hard not to stare
Only twenty days ago did it stand lonely there
Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three ornaments spent
Twenty-four days passed and not a single branch bent
Twenty-five days and it's Christmas for Blue Moon
