Spoiler Warning! Events in stories set in Cascadia could be spoiled by information contained herein.
This thread is a database for the setting of Cascadia, to help myself and my partners writing in the world to keep track of information. Cascadia is, fundamentally, the setting for an elaborate disempowerment fantasy. It is a hypersexualized world of skirt suited girl bosses getting railed by the suave, well dressed men that disempower them. It's not meant to reflect the political climate of the real world, but instead the political climate of a pornographic fantasy. Characters' views and choices in the story don't reflect the real world views or wishes of the authors. I just have a very specific kink.
Background
The United States of Cascadia is divided into 13 states. There are 26 seats in the Senate and 131 seats in the House of Representatives. The year at the start of the story is 2020. Elections follow the same schedule as they do in the US, so the first is in 2020, the Midterms happen in 2022 and then the last Election in the main story happens in 2024.
Founded in 1850, Cascadia's traditions were overtly Patriarchal; Women could not vote, wives were legally property of their husbands, female disobedience was a crime, women couldn't get divorced, female criminals could be bought at auction as brides, and so on. In 1970 a coalition of smaller parties managed to maneuver around Cascadia's constitution and grant women the right to vote and hold public office. This gave rise to a new party that would soon become the primary Opposition Party to the Patriarchal Order: This party was the Feminist Party.
In the election of 1980 the Feminist Party shocked the world by capturing the Presidency and both houses of Congress; For the next 40 years the Feminist Party was in power with complete control of government, only having their trifecta broken a handful of times and never for longer than two years. By 2010 none of the old laws that oppressed the women of Cascadia remained on the books. The Feminist Party had completed its mission of achieving full citizenship for women.
