We lay in each other's arms. Naked. Astonished at what had happened.
"I don't know how I found the courage." I was the first to speak.
"I'm so glad you did, Kay." Sally-Ann waited so long to reply that I wondered if she had heard my words.
"I'd wanted it for so long." There, I had confessed it.
"So had I." I was still surprised by her admission, although I knew how she had reacted.
"I couldn't believe your reaction. I was so afraid you would reject me."
We'd been out for a drive, in Sally's open-topped sports car. We had worn matching dresses, her was blue, mine was red.
And so the exchanges went on.
"I was looking sideways at you all the time I was driving. I almost hit the curb twice."
"I know. You made it so difficult for me. I wanted to look at you, but didn't want you to notice."
"I never realised."
"I was getting so wet, I was worried it would stain your leather seat."
"You took me completely by surprise when you leaned over at the lights and kissed me."
"As soon as our lips touched, I wanted to climb over and mount you."
"Well you have now, which makes it my turn next."
