Personality: Even from a young age, one of the best words to describe Bea was precocious. As far back as childhood there was a strong sense of understanding about her. She was always the one to ask the strange or advanced questions and expect a comprehensive answer. Into adulthood, Beatrice is a sponge with a desire to learn as much as she can about the subjects that interest her. Most notably, she has passions for literature, history, art, and music. She could spend ages researching folklore, stories, and songs without growing tired. Bea has a healthy love of fantasy, science-fiction, and horror, extending to a deep interest in conspiracy theories and urban legends. These are things she chooses to believe in partially because she wants life to be as intriguing as possible. Despite her relative intelligence and inquisitive mind, she doesn't always advertise her knowledge until absolutely necessary. She's often afraid of coming across as a know-it-all or ostracizing herself from potential friends. Instead, her wit is often employed in a quick, dry sense of humor. With an almost perpetually serious expression, she often makes off-the-cuff comments that leave some briefly wondering if she's being sincere or just messing with them. Usually, it's the latter.

Growing up as a "gifted" kid, Beatrice shows the least patience for herself. If she can't grasp a certain concept she considers herself to be the one at fault and often fixates on the subject until she finds her answer. Life's great mysteries are particularly frustrating for her, as she can't quite make peace with the fact that there are some things she'll simply never know. While she doesn't directly advertise her intelligence, Beatrice does little to hide her sometimes unconventional interests. She will happily ramble on about stories, legends, and grim happenings if someone seems to want to listen. There is very little that actually bothers Bea as well. She doesn't feel the need to take the lead in any given situation but also has enough sense to make her voice heard when it needs to be. Socially, she's decent at making friends and getting along with people but almost completely lacks the ability to discern romantic interest. This could be due, in part, to the insecurities she holds after her accident. She hasn't quite accepted her scars, even if there's not much she can do to hide them. And there are times when she comes across as slightly awkward, fumbling over how much or how little to say when her thoughts run laps around her mouth. Although she doesn't show it, Beatrice often also has a difficult time with her emotions. She ruminates on them, trying to unravel them just like every other mystery she seeks out. And she feels deeply, enough so that if she's blind-sided by her feelings they run the risk of shutting her down entirely as she attempts to process them.

Background: An only child to a factory worker father and a mother who gave music lessons to make extra income, Beatrice wasn't necessarily set up for success at a young age. She lived with her parents in Ohio until she was around seven years old, at which time her father was offered a slightly better position at a factory in Hawkins, Indiana. Since she was so young, Bea has yet to really make too many friends or memories, so the move didn't bother her all that much. In fact, her parents were some of her closest companions. Her father loved a good story, and would often sit Bea on his lap in the evenings while he read to her from all manner of works. From her mother, she learned a love of music. Not only was she taught to play piano and guitar as a child, it wasn't uncommon for her mother to pick an album and for the small family to spend the evening dancing and singing around the living room. She understood from a young age that they weren't all that well-off, and it never bothered her. But she knew it bothered them as they tried their best to provide for her on special occasions like her birthday. Nevertheless, it was always a household filled with love. Shortly after starting at her new Hawkins Elementary School, Bea met the girl who would come right after her in classroom lines as well as in the yearbook. She became fast friends with Robin Buckley, a like-minded girl who didn't seem to care what people thought about her, at least for the most part. The two were inseparable, and their friendship became slightly infectious until they'd amassed a small group of girls that were as close-knit as any other. This was good for Beatrice, as her parents had to work harder and harder to stay afloat. Her mother found more students in Hawkins and neighboring communities, while her father took shifts when the factory was short so he could invest a little extra money into Bea's future. Her present, then, saw her spending many nights home alone. She'd often make plans with her group of friends, a fact that her parents were well aware of. Hawkins was as safe a place as you could get. Until, of course, it wasn't.

It was around the time of one of these high school hang-outs that the girls were caught up in a typical Midwestern storm. This one set in quicker than they had expected, and their evening adventure threatened to be cut short by the inclement weather. Unfortunately, they weren't quite quick enough in getting to safety. Thunder and lightning lit up the sky, and before anyone knew quite what was happening Beatrice had been struck point blank by a bolt. She went into cardiac arrest and her panicked friends scrambled to find help and a phone. Without a pulse or any noticeable breath, she was considered legally dead and had to be stabilized with CPR until the EMTs arrived. She was resuscitated and gained consciousness in the hospital long enough to see her parents' faces one last time before she slipped into a coma. It was unclear when she would wake, but her parents visited every day for the first several months. After some time, her mother grew hopeless and despondent, convinced that Beatrice would never wake up. The fights, over their daughter's condition and the mounting hospital bills, drove the previously happy family apart. While Beatrice was sleeping her parents went through a messy divorce, and her mother moved out of the state entirely. Her father continued his daily visits, citing his daughter as the only thing he had left in his life. At some point, even he lost hope that she'd ever open her eyes again.

Other Random, Irrelevant Facts:
~* She is super ticklish, like you wouldn't even believe. It makes her squeal and jump every time without fail.
~* She has a strange talent for catching food in her mouth. It used to be like an Olympic sport for her and Robin.
~* Whenever she sneezes it's tiny and comes in a rapid-fire fit, like 5-7 sneezes at least. Robin has to tell people to hold off on "blessing" her because it just never ends.
~* If she goes down the rabbit hole you will never see her until she comes out the other side. She cannot stop herself from following a thread until the end and has stayed up all night researching something.
~* She makes up little songs while she's doing mundane tasks (ie washing dishes) and sings them under her breath. It's very embarrassing for her if anyone brings them up.
~* She's almost always cold, so she has an unnatural obsession with heavy socks and sweaters. She will also make any space she occupies as cozy as possible. Her blanket forts are impeccable.
~* She can find her way out of a forest no problem, but will get hopelessly lost in a department or grocery store.
~* She has an uncanny ability for untangling cords. Knots don't stand a chance against her.
~* She can cry at a moment's notice but can't stop herself from crying. She will be caught tearing up at a commercial and will just try to laugh it off.
~* Her very first crush was Aragorn. Sometimes her father, or Robin, will bring this up and it embarrasses her every time.
