NOTE: while a historical setting, these tales would take place in a fictionalized world of wild animals, wild peoples, gods, and magic, but whether they're real or not depends on the characters, and the writers. In short, the theme and flavors are borrowed, but not full-bore accuracy. The goal is entertainment and enjoyment.

In a drive for more resources, the Roman Empire pushes to expand, and, in doing so, butts up against "backwards," and "primitive" peoples they simply call "barbarians." Peace is a tenuous thing, especially when not everyone agrees to having foreign soldiers taking up residence on their lands, no matter what they promise. Some leaders see them as powerful allies in arms, others as trade, but still there are those who want them out, and those are the ones that cause the most headaches for everyone.
