It has been two and a half years since she came back to the island, the zombie apocalypse started and she was thankful to have the island as backup so she could go and relax. Who could had known that would be her permanent home from that moment on. Deciding that it was best to go to the island and stay there while the really bad time passed, she dedicated herself to expand her home and make it a place where she could live on from that moment on. Hunting on the island for wild life, fishing and growing crops became her everyday life.

She knew that she had to go from time to time to the main area for supplies and there was a very high risk of zombies. However, thanks to her training with bows and arrows she managed to survive and stay silent as she collected resources especially a radio that she picked up on the harbor. That was the last time she would ever go back to the main island, after all she had everything needed from medicine to hunting equipment to even books, and stereo and even a couple of generators for her home with solar panels to charge them.

After three years she had everything that she would ever need, while transmitting constantly a message she recorded she continued to live her life in the solitude of the island. However, safe as she was the solitude was getting to her, not having anybody to talk to and knowing that she would most likely be the only person alive wasn't a good comfort to live on. She had everything she needed to survive for years but she wasn't sure if her emotions would survive for that long.

Three years... it's been three years ever since the day when all hell went loose, the very event that everyone thought was only possible in movies, shows, and video games became a horrible reality. Despite their efforts to contain the infection, in the end, it simply proved pointless. Now with the dead dominating the world, they were all left on their own, abandoned by their government, and no one could be trusted. Marcus thought he found his haven with the group he sheltered with, but much like a lot of things in the world, he soon found himself on the run after a huge horde of zombies had attacked their hideout, breaching their defenses and wreaking havoc. Everything happened too fast.. and now he found himself on the run once more with a backpack that contained some bandages, and some extra ammo, he had already gone through his last supply of food and water.

Armed only with the rifle he had from his army days, Marcus ran through the dense foliage. He could hear the snarling of the infected behind him, but he knew discharging his rifle would only mean more of the infected would be attracted. He was doing his best to create some distance between himself and his pursuers. He could feel his heart pounding against his chest. Fortunately, after minutes of non-stop running, the sound of snarling faded away, indicating he was in the clear, for now. Slumping against a tree, Marcus caught his breath and fell to his knees, throwing up what little he had left in his stomach from the severe exhaustion. After a bit, he would finally push himself up and began to make his way out of the dense woods.

He had nowhere else to go except for the coordinates that one of his friends heard on the radio, it was the very reason his group was planning on leaving their hideout, to take a gamble and go to the coordinates that the woman was saying on the radio. Marcus was skeptical, however.. convinced that it could be a trap laid out for them, and as such he was one of the few to go against the idea. But, right now, he didn't have a choice, did he? He had no one left. Surveying his surroundings, Marcus pulled out the map from his breast pocket, pinpointing where he was, and proceeded to a fishing pier that was close by.. hopefully, he could find a boat that still worked.

30 minutes later,

Finding a boat with a radio onboard at the pier, Marcus found himself sailing off to the coordinates that he was given, a part of him was still skeptical but what more could he lose at that point? He attempted to set the frequency of the radio to the woman's frequency, but the radio flickered in and out due to poor maintenance at that point, but he knew he had to try. " Island Settlement, come in.. this is Camp Sierra survivors.. do you read, over? " he asked. " Island Settlement come in.. come in.. this is Camp Sierra survivors, transmitting to you.. " he said, receiving no reply, he didn't even know if his transmission could be heard. " Piece of shit.. " he sighed, slamming his fist ontop of the radio unit.

The sound of soft music was all over her house, she learned to appreciate the old classic music rather than the loud rock. She looked at the meat that was cooking and smirked, "Almost done… this with some mashed potatoes and a good orange juice and I am in heaven. A good meal in the apocalypse who would had thought, I actually had made a life in here and I am safe… as long as I stay within my base of course". She sat down on the balcony and looked around before whistling, "Hey girl! Come here food!" she smirked as her husky came running besides her and started eating from her bowl.

The sound of the radio going off alerted her that someone was actually replying, "What the…". Placing her stuff on the floor she walked to the radio and heard the man once again trying to get someone and he was in her channel "Lucky bastard" she laughed and picked up the speaker . "This is Island Base, are you still there Camp Sierra Survivor?, if you are there is still hope for you… come to these coordinates and you won't have to worry about a zombie ever again. I have shelter, food and pure water… I also have grown vegetables and meat for days…make your way here… I am lonely". She smirked and walked over to where she had her weapons, "If I am going to accept someone in here from the city I need to make sure they are not bitten or infected". Taking her shotgun she placed a couple of bullets inside enough for her to defend herself if he was hostile or infected. Taking out the first aid kit and some bags of liquid nutrients she placed them aside just in case he was hurt.

As the radio lit up, he turned his head, surprised that a reply was coming through, but the signal itself was horrible, plus the condition of the radio. As he slammed the top of his hand against the top of the radio a few more times. " Island? Island?? Can you read? " he said while trying to clear out the signal. At that point, the lights on the radio have gone out, indicating that the radio was completely broken. " God damnit.. " he sighed, brushing his fingers through his hair in frustration. With that, Marcus would push the throttle lever upwards, putting the boat at maximum speed. However, that wasn't the only issue, the fuel level of the boat itself was already low as there was no fuel on the pier to fully gas up the boat. He could only hope he can make it to the island.

It didn't take long at all until the boat would start to choke a bit from the lack of fuel, Marcus would shake his head. " No no no.. come on.. come on, it's right there, you piece of shit.. " he cursed. As the engine finally died, Marcus let out a heavy sigh, seeing the island was already close. He stood there, trying to determine just how far the island was. With no other choice, Marcus took the leap and dived right in, gasping for air as he rose up to the surface. " F..f..fuck.. fuck.. fuck that's cold.. " he thought to himself. With every ounce of energy he had left, he used it to drive himself forward, swimming towards the island.. at that point he didn't care if it was the right island, as long as he was on land. The only thing that was keeping him going at that point was his adrenaline, with no food, and little to no rest.. he would've died at that point, yet, he pushed on.. eager to get to land.

As he reached the shore, Marcus could barely get up. He fell to his knees, noticing his vision started to go black from the severe exhaustion. That was it.. he was going to die there on that shore. He tried to push himself up and continue onwards, taking a few steps until he would stop in his tracks before falling to his knees once more before collapsing onto the ground. His breathing rapid, trying to gasp as much oxygen as he could, but alas, it didn't take long until his vision faded.

"Damn!" she angrily screamed as the signal turned off. Shaking her head she knew that he would most likely not have heard her location. She knew it would be a miracle if he even reached the island, "Huh Luna… looks like we are not getting a new companion huh?" she said to her dog as she looked at Sarah with puzzling eyes. She decided it was about time to start closing up since the animals were more active at night, she knew that she had set up traps against them but she never tested against that by going out.

As the day began turning into night Luna suddenly stood up and started trying to get out with a hurry. "Luna? Are you okay girl?" however the only thing the animal did was howl as she tried to get out. "Okay okay, let's go out but quickly you hear?". Grabbing her bow and arrows she opened the door and saw Luna rushing to the beach stopping in front of something that washed ashore. With her flashlight she looked at the area and gasped as she saw a body, "Fuck!". She began running to the body and checked his pulse, "Good, your alive… however". She checked his body for bite marks or scratches, the only wounds she saw were old and already healed. "I need to take off your clothes, unless you want to die bud" she shook her head and with some trouble she dragged him to the cottage where she placed him near the fire as she started cutting away his clothes, tossing them out the window.

Walking to her stash she took out the protein bag and made sure to attach the needle to him so he would get the nutrients he needed. Taking a bear rug that she had cleaned and often used as a blanket she placed it on top of him to keep him warm. Knowing it would take some hours for him to recover she went to sleep.

The next day she looked at him, checking his pulse and already was stronger he was getting better. Walking out she took a couple of the meat that she prepared the day before and started cooking the meat with some mashed potatoes and orange juice. After cooking she placed the food next to him with a clean set of warm clothes. "Luna… let me know when he wakes up okay?" Luna whimpered as she laid down while looking at him, waiting.

Marcus laid there on the sand, catching his breath as much as possible. His vision had started to fade to black, his also began to fade as well. He would see the silhouette of a woman over him, turning his head a bit to look up at her. Was she a human? A zombie? A bandit? At that point, he didn't know, and he didn't care, he was already pushed to the edge, and from how it looked, perhaps that was it for him. He couldn't even understand what she was trying to say. His eyes fluttered to a close despite his efforts to keep them open and stay awake as he was dragged away from the beach. All he could hear at that point was the sound of his rapid breathing before finally, he would fade out and lose his consciousness, giving into the exhaustion.

" Marcus! Marcus! We gotta go! Get up! We gotta go! " a voice echoed in his head. " Marcus! Get up! Get up! " the voice continued to echo in his head. Suddenly, he found himself in a crashed MRAP. He could feel the warmth of his blood as it trickled down from his forehead. The lens of his gas mask had cracked, obscuring his view. As he pulled his helmet off, he would also yank his gas mask off. Picking his rifle up, Marcus pushed himself up from the ground using the butt of his rifle, turning his head as he aimed at the closest infected. Squeezing the trigger, the sound of the gunshots in his dream made him squirm.

Finally, after a day of being knocked out, he opened his eyes weakly to find himself in the cottage. He's alive..? It was almost a surprise to him that he didn't succumb to his exhaustion, not to mention he was going through a fever at the same time. Sitting himself up, he looked around to see food next to him and a clean set of clothes. He looked underneath the rugs, noticing that his clothes were off, yet he wasn't chained up or anything indicating that wasn't kept as a prisoner or anything, but his rifle was missing. Reaching for the clean set of clothes, he slowly put them on, still sore from the running and the swimming. " Hello? " he called out, curious to see who pulled him from the beach.

The sound of another human being alerted Sarah, "Well, looks like the gentlemen woke up. Sorry about the clothing I had to take them off to check for bites or scratches and because if I left them on you... well getting sick is not good on these times. Hello I am Sarah, and this is my place... I built all of this from scratch when the virus started spreading. We have no infection here because there isn't an infected person on this island, so you are safe". Looking down to Luna, Sarah pointed at her husky "And that is Luna my faithful companion, you should thank her that she was able to sense you, she alerted me that you were on the beach otherwise you would had died". She talked a lot, she had nobody that she could talk with for almost three years except Luna and she never answered back so she was glad to see another human being for once.

"Also, I suggest not stepping out from the base area, there are loads of bears and animals around while you are here you are safe since I have traps all over the place" she walked over to her garden and took out an orange before walking to him and offering it to him. "If you want to stay however I will put you to good use with some things I want done. For now however you need to rest and recover your strenght back. I left some food besides your bed, bear stake and some mashed potatoes it's really good I suggest you eat it before it gets cold, I have no microwave yet". He would had noticed that she had her base set in different areas, one area for cultivating, one for meat and skinning, another for the sun panels which gave electricity to the base and finally an storage area of sorts with a lot of boxes inside.
